Things that concerned me yesterday in order

Our style of play - over coached, lacking in creativity, guile and positive approach when 2 up

Poch - really is responsible for the point above so arguably could be the biggest concern. He seems to have got lost in a tactical maze with players being over coached to the point where the approach is all about the system and the shape rather than any self expression. The guy next to me, who wasn't a regular, hit the nail on the head 'we look like a mid table Seria A side, competent technically but nothing more'

The result

It's a shame that it always seems to be the way. The only exception was when we blew the Bale cash and got in all our targets fairly early, only for them to be poor choices.
It seems that until the top 5 clubs make there signings, we are having to wait. I'm sure if Man City wasn't interested in Berahino, we would have wrapped it up already. Or we are waiting on those clubs to replace their player before letting our targets leave. We just sold most of ours before replacing them.
Hopefully we get the last pieces of this jigsaw puzzle in the next week. Another striker and a DM please!!!
Its sods law that one of those poor choices was MOM for Watford v Albion, according to the Sunday Times. Next up Bobbys debut hat-trick for Villareal!

Not bothered. I know where we are as a club right now and can see where we are going.
Seems this place is on meltdown again. Pitch out, levy out. Jeez. We let a two goal lead slip. Get over it. It's football. We are building a team now over the next few years and it's going to be a rough ride. Still a point up in reverse fixtures last season!
Keep offering up excuses for them and they will keep taking them.

Even with the bale money, 4 of the 7 arrived after 15th August, with 3 of them on the 30th - I cannot ever remember us getting our major business tied up and the squad having a pre season together. And we wonder why we miss the top 4 buy relatively small ish margins each year

OK, it's early in the season to knee jerk but one point out of a possible six is depressing and we are still doing a creditable Jekyll & Hyde impersonation, even with some new players and some excellent early performances which fell apart in the second half when Mark Hughes made good subs, we made bad ones and it got Stoke a point away from home, so all credit to him and his players for stepping up to make their challenge.

Hindsight and analysis should be tools to improve things so I hope MoPo is taking on board the mistakes he and the players made and working positively towards making the whole 90+ minutes work for us.

New season, same old shit

Infuriating, really is.

Thats the main sticking point amongst fans that frustrates so much, we are still making and doing the same tired old routine of chucking away games and dissapearing up our own arses when the pressure is on, see first two games for evidence of that.
The thing that perplexes me is that we anounced at the end of the season we would be doing a tour at the end of the season so as to be fully prepared for the start of the new one.
Yet we hardly done much pre season work but then had two games in two days just three days before the season started what was the point of that.
Poch also stated he wanted business done early but Wimmer was virtually done in january and only trippier and Toby have come in until njie Friday, so the team is still not complete.
Calling for pochs head is stupid but he needs to get his tactics and subs right and get this costly mistakes and flimsy mentality sorted fast.

Agree that we need an experienced leader. If we would have brought on a Milner or Cambiasso instead of Bentaleb, I guarantee you we would have held on for the win yesterday.

I wonder myself. I remember when we bought Modric very early on, and wondered what the hell happened. I think someone changed the date on Levy's calendar, lol.
I'm hoping that now most of the dead wood has gone, it should be easier to bring in players sooner. We only really have Lennon and Adebayor left to move on. Unless we have a terrible season, next window we should be able to move sooner. Wishful thinking maybe.

I didn't think Capoue was given a fair chance to be fair. 24 appearances in 2 years was hardly a decent run. He's a good player for a smaller team, so the supporters may not jump on his back so quickly.
I'll be looking at the Villarreal score for sure. I have a feeling he'll play well.

I said to my Watford-supporting mate thet Capoue will be brilliant to start with then get bored and complacent as the season went on. I stand by that and I am already half right!

No doubt it'll start after the Watford vs Spurs match, where he will put in 200% just to prove a point.
I'm hoping Bentaleb finds his form soon. It seemed to drop as soon as he signed his new contract. Coincidence?

The team has been dismantled and we are finally putting together a team of young, hungry players. We WILL NOT get top 4 this year. I don't expect it and don't want it, because we are not ready.
The sooner people realise this the better. We can not compete with wages or club status until the new stadium is built and we have the money coming in.
We have to build the squad with young players with potential, and maybe a few players with experience. I believe we need a more experienced player in the middle, and another striker.
I don't blame Poch for his substitution. Kane had a calf strain and couldn't continue. We didn't have a backup striker. Lamela is still struggling with form, but nobody knows if he'll play poorly or have a blinder.
I personally would rather push for a third goal and not sit back and defend.
It's the 2nd game of the season. We didn't lose, we drew. And we lost to Stoke last season. It's not time to panic....YET!
Until we GET top four we ain't keeping hold of our young top talent. Why can't people understand this? We are not big enough or important enough to keep the Kanes of this world. If he has another blinder this season do you honestly think he'll be here the next? Youth hasn't won anything since the Man U lot and it won't happen ever again I'm sorry to say.

Poch said post match, that we controlled the game for 70 minutes......I do hope he noticed that Bentaleb was bought on in the 69th minute. After which Ireland ran the midfield, virtually unchecked. Lamela as an impact sub was extremely poor. Neither deserved to come on, 70 minutes 2 nil up, shut up shop and strengthen the midfield. We did the polar opposite.

This one is down to Poch.

But he "needs more players" :cautious:. How about learning the game and making a wise substitution for a change instead of looking to the transfer market whenever he is incapable of reading / impacting a game tactically

When the second goal went in yesterday I looked round our team to see how they were reacting - who was angry and determined to get on the front foot and get our lead back? Jan and Toby were looking at the floor in their own little world. Hugo was silent. The rest of them were milling about plodding back into position for kick off. The only one actually doing some shouting, geeing others up was Eric Dier.

To me this just shows how fundamentally flawed our approach to squad building is. There seems to be a theory that we can just buy a load of talented young players and throw them together. But you need characters in a team, people who get angry when goals go in and actually dish out some verbals to the people at fault.

For all his (many) faults this is one thing Redknapp understood about football. At the moment we look a team devoid of leadership and backbone.

And this is Eric Dier - who is a centre back.... who has played almost 50% of his THFC games out of position. Hmmm.... Poch needs to stop f***ing around with his development. CB, RB or CM... poor lad won't stick about long if he loses his England chances while being messed about at THFC

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I'm sure if Poch had known that Lamela would have been so poor he would have kept him on the bench. My point is there was nobody else to use up front and going defensive is always a risk. Now N'Jie has signed, we have another striker at least. I'm not blaming Poch until he has more options and doesn't use them.

I hope you're right. But I seriously seriously worry about his substitutions. Chadli up front with rose at left midfield would of been my decision. Even Ali on. But basically keep it tight and keep possession. Give the fucking ball to Dembelle for 20 minutes! Anything but put a underperformance under confident Lamela on! I swear that lads got some good pictures of a naked Levy.

Superb Mourinhio-like performance from Poch. Realises chairman is dragging his feet re transfers so takes off our slightly injured (and only) striker, plays a CB in DM and makes a few dodgy midfield substitutions to publicly show how thin the squad is and what it is lacking - thereby forcing the chairman's hand (rather than coasting to victory and everyone thinking all is well).
Clever, clever...

I thought that was why we brought Mitchell and Co with their Black books and laptops to identifiy players and their habits.
This includes but not limited to their strengths, weaknesses, and what time they shit or have a wank.
Its still early days with our team but I would of expected to see some basics improve like defending better and possesion for possesions sake football with limited end product.
I see there has been a few comments on here saying we might finish eighth, but in order for us to keep the likes of kane and Hugos we need to keep improving or at least close the points gap on top four, finishing further down will not do at all.
