Let's not get ahead of ourselves. I'm ecstatic for the lad but I hope he keeps himself grounded. He looked alright at centre back and did pretty well at right back too. Wasn't afraid to take on his man, tracked well and tried putting balls into the box. Did well considering he was moved out of position.

A great start, and I hope he settles into the team well. Could be a good player for the future.

He's an absolute specimen. Can't wait to see how he develops. I though we'd be lucky to see him play 10 games this season, seems I underestimated him. Baller

Not that you can tell much from a couple of spurs tv interviews but the kid seems like a nice guy, good attitude and all that.

Good player and was MOM today, did not stop running, changed position, scored a goal and this was his debut at west ham away. Going to be a special player for spurs

That goal with live with him for the rest of his career. Seeing him celebrate in front of the away end with thousands of spurs going mental is perfect.

I watched this game in an Arsenal and West Ham household and when he scored I couldn't believe it was him so I started shouting DIER! DIER!! in my mate's face. Apparently the gooner started panicking in the other room because he thought I was shouting FIRE! :ROFLMAO:

I have a question (and apologies if it has already been covered): don't United have an agreement with Sporting Lisbon? Sure that's been mentioned before. If they do have some kind of first refusal, you would think they would have been more than a bit interested - and defence is certainly an area they could do with strengthening in.

Also, I know it's the Fail, but interesting article here:

What I found most interesting was that most times I have seen mention of his loan to Everton, it is brushed over with a comment like he didn't feature, and that is it. Whereas Dier, himself, attributes it as being quite formative in his career.

Yup. He was never there to feature. He was 18. They extended his loan for a reason and SL were quite happy for him to improve his football education in a harsher environment.

I found it amazing how icy cool this lad is. Even when Naughton was sent off, he appeared to just roll his sleeves up and get on with it. Many senior players would whine/panic. The fact that he was still sprinting the length of the pitch so late on, despite being a CB and despite it being his debut in a much faster league is outrageous really, when you put it into context. He clearly benefitted from playing with Kane for England as well ;-)

He plays with a mean/serious look. I like that about him and hopefully that's what will keep him grounded.

According to Greg Stobart, Sherwood was the one who recommended we signed Dier (obviously before he got the sack).

Sherwood does seem to have a good eye for talent, probably should have become a scout instead of a coach.

So a 20-year-old in his debut game in a new and notoriously challenging league puts in a solid and controlled performance as a centre back and emergency right back and scores the winning goal with a neat run and finish as the most advanced attacker in his new team. In the opening game of the season. In an away game. In a London derby. In a team down to ten men. Bloody hell, he's got a lot to live up to now.
