With Lenglet's loan ending and Sanchez and Tanganga both complete liabilities, selling Dier should be low priority. We'll need him next season as a 3rd or, ideally, 4th choice squad option. He's not good enough to be first choice but we can't afford to turnover the entire squad at once and we'll need him to make up numbers for another year or two.

He's also clearly a popular member of the squad, helps to translate/link between different sections of the squad and has a good character so a solid guy to have around the place.

Do you think we should give him a new contract?

Not unless the terms are in our favour and he's happy to be 4th choice long term (which I don't think he will).

While it would be a fairly unpopular move, I don't think it's the absolute worst idea, though, for the reasons I said in my previous post.

You do need a few good character, back-up, squad guys like Dier and Davies around the place. The problem right now isn't the fact that Dier is in the squad, it's the fact that he starts every bloody game.

While he's far from elite, he's really not a bad option to have as a squad player. Since White's moved to RB, Arsenal's 3rd choice CB is Rob Holding FFS and they're gonna win the title.

He's got a year left on his current deal. I think we'd be best to let that run out. Should give us enough time to find another squad player. We might even re-sign Dier on more favourable terms once it runs out. Can't see anyone paying him what he's on here tbh.

Showed some early promise and had flashes of good form, but never good enough. It's time to say goodbye and good luck.

Would be a good move for everyone if there's any truth to it.

That noise you can hear? It's the sound of 10,000 car engines starting up. He'll have his pick of lifts.

I don’t see the point of releasing him, he’s far better than Sanchez, Tanganga and Rodon, we need a squad and he’s a good squad player.

Got to be done, needs shifting: a part of the deadwood in our squad that has clung on for far too long. He’s not even a CB. Hopefully we go back to a back 4, get one CB in and blood in an academy player as well. That’s what we’ve got to realise: need a blend of youth and an actual decent Premier League experienced CB.

No way we release a HG player and retain Sanchez

Eric Dier's formative years in Portugal mean that despite being an England international he does not qualify as a homegrown player.

Best of luck to him. Hopefully we can shift another 9 or 10 this summer. We need a massive clearout.

I'm probably in a club of 1 here but I'd be sad to see him leave.

Trouble is, to keep him here we'd have to offer a new deal. That would be based on him being a squad player, not a starter so wages and assurances would drop. I think he'd want more than that and will want to go somewhere he'll get more time on the pitch. Nothing against him at all, but we really need a dominant, composed CB if we want to compete and I'm pretty sure it will be a priority signing. Sanchez is in the same boat.
