All JJ is saying is that players won't sign for approx 4 weeks. The deals can be agreed and in Ben Davies' case it is all agreed. Swansea thought it would have been concluded by now but obviously it's not the case.

The danger with this approach of waiting is that deals could get gazumped, and even if they are concluded it would give the player roughly two weeks before the season starts. Hardly the best preparation for a new season. How many times have we left it late in the past?? Same old story...

It will never change we should all be used to it by now.

I don't know why people are getting annoyed. I'd much rather the new manager came in and properly assessed everyone we have at the club (both established players and what we have in the U21's/youths), exhaust all the possibilities of what the current players can potentially bring to his way of playing and then look to buy after that, rather than spunking many more millions on players for the sake of it. If we don't buy for another transfer window or two then so be it.

I'd also say on the evidence of Poch's managerial career so far (both from Southampton and what I have read on his time at Espanyol) he is largely someone who works best with what he has got rather than someone who buys in players.

So is Poch going to wait till everyone is back from the WC as well? That's going to be a long time before any movement in that case. As much as I like that in principal, I would worry the longer we leave it the less targets will be available. Nobody wants to sell their best players a week or so before the season starts no mater what country your in. The fact that everyone else is strengthening as well does give me course for concern as well as new faces not being able to benefit from a full preseason at our club.

That's how we roll though, regardless of a new manger at the helm

There is very little wrong with our squad, re: Danny Rose/Ben Davies I don't see the major upgrade in that move at all. Also I like

Of course, but you know.

Shiny new toys and all that...

I'd rather the manager properly assesses the current squad based on his first-hand experience of working with them and seeing how they are able to carry out the jobs and responsibilities he gives them. It may take time, and we may not get off to a flying start to the season, but in the long run it must be the better way.

The trouble is we're not that keen on the long run, for some very obvious reasons.

I can see what you mean but I worry about the sales just as much, we have too many players already without adding any, I worry if Poch wants to assess everyone potential buyers may move on to other targets

For starters he's from nice & thus will never play for Monaco.

He himself said as much last June

"There are some things that are difficult to refuse, but only if it allows you to go one step further," he added.

"And then there is another thing - I am too much of a Nice man to go there!"

Are you sure he didn't mean nice as in kind? ;)

See JJs latest tweets people. He says: We haven't given up on Ben Davies at all, it may take 4 weeks but the 4weeks is mainly other players!

Basically as I've said BD is up to Levy when he concludes!

He could just a easily moving to be nearer the kids school, if he has kids. As was said in a previous post there are numerous reasons that people move, not just because they are moving jobs. Jeez!

I was joking Roynie.

Trouble is if we dont improve the squad enough and We finish 8/9th next season that wont be better in the Long run will it.

So, on the assumption that we wont sign anybody for 4 weeks, that means they'll miss our entire tour of the US?

That don't sit right with me, man.

I agree but it would be a return to previous form. Signing players in the last weeks of the window once the season is well under way.

If we're not going to buy anyone until a few days before the new season starts, the manager must be pretty confident that he doesn't actually need to buy anyone at all. Otherwise it would be recklessly risky to leave it so late, and that is not likely is it?

So, the new manager's confidence in the squad is either very reassuring or very disturbing, depending on your opinion of the current squad/the new manager/your sanity.

It seems to me judging from our targets this summer that he does believe we need a LB, CB, LW, and ST regardless, and we did have ITK that suggested as such. My belief is he no doubt wants to evaluate the current squad, but he's also assessing the exact individual quality and traits he has or is lacking in.

we don't actually need any players. we have 2/3 keepers, 2 rbs, 4 cbs, 2/3 lbs, a gajillion centre mids, 4/5 wide options and 3 strikers. i wouldn't actually be averse to poch just getting used to this lot of players first and seeing if he can get more out of them than avb/tim before replacing/adding more. save our money for a rainy day.

Surely we need another left back even if pochintino rates rose?
I'm assuming he rates Davies, so why wait until he has seen them for 4 weeks in pre season? Doesn't make much sense to me

Cant believe how much shit Danny Rose gets on here lol.

He was our best player during last years preseason, and looked good until he got injured. In fact when he was injured we were all desperate for him to get back quick.

Sure he didnt look good after he got back from his injury, but then again not many did. Im not saying he is a great footballer or anything, but he certainly have some valuable skills like pace and durability.

its a lot easier to learn a player how to position themself or improve their dicipline than more technique based attributes. I even read on here that ppl cant wait to see what Poch can do with Davies after seeing what he did for Shaw, but why cant he teach and improve Rose?

LB are amongst our weakest spots i agree, but i wouldnt be suprised if Poch wants to wait and see how Rose looks in training before dismissing him. His willingness to attack, athleticism, pace and durability is all important in what Poch wants his fullbacks to do.
