If a player like Lamela is bought for 30m...then for 50m must be a player aged 23-26 who has already got Champions League glory and proven their worth..... and this bid was 2 weeks before the window closed, so even assuming we had Willian, and Lamela lined up...WOW!

idk who....I'd have to say honestly Draxler, even though its said it's not him.

Can't think of anybody else.....else has to be Reus...maybe they wanna take the 50m before Reus to goes and joins Bayernlol?
...he's the only player we'll all be excited about....
and isn't too old, or just based on potential...
It's either...

i) Marco Reus
ii) Marco Reus
iii) Marco Reus

By the way, why are people even hoping for Suarez? Do we actually want that racist cannibal in the club? He may be good but he is a disaster waiting to happen, IMO. One would have to think that the FA is losing patience with him after he got punished for Racism then for his 2nd cannibal incident. One more blunder, He's really screwed with the FA. And he'll be unsellable due to lack of maturity and money he'll cost. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

I can't even imagine signing Reus, like that would just be too much. Reus, Eriksen and Lamela behind Soldado? There's no way. Then again, there was no way I thought we'd sign Soldado or Lamela or Eriksen. Levy and Baldini have been amazing, but that would be more amazing.

Hopefully AVB does his part, like he has so far, and has us in a very good position in January, so we'd be in a position to even think about being able to lure a player like Reus to WHL.

Sorry for what is probably a stupid suggestion, but how are things with Pep and Robben? Could have sworn at the start of the summer Pep wasn't a big fan. Could have been him?

If it is not Draxler. Then the contenders are El Shaarawy, Reus and Falcao. There is absolutely no way players like Witsel, Muller, Kros, etc are worth 50 million. Suarez won't be allowed to move within the PL and Mata won't be allowed to move to us.

If it is SES we would be over paying massively, quality prospect but needs more time to merit such a big gamble.

If it is Falcao, £50 million is line with what teams are paying for players like him. Would be a crazy move.

If it is Reus I'm off for a wank. Better player than Bale for £36 million less. Would be an amazing move. People can say Ozil is a big coup for Arsenal, Reus would be a bigger coup, f**king amazing player.

What type of wages is Falcao on at Monaco?

I assume they pay him a fortune (and the tax status only adds to this)

His wage expectations alone would be enough to rule out any possibility of him coming to us

The only link in our favour is the fact he's worked with AVB before so has an established relationship.

He'd likely have all the biggest clubs in the world trying to sign him if he became available and they'd probably be more willing and more able to pay him what he is on now or closer to it than we could

It just seems like a non starter to me

Reus is the only one who we could justify signing for £50 million but isn't he a Dortmund boyhood fan? I don't know if he would ditch them.

He'd be insane and I think he's out of our league.

Reus - Eriksen - Lamela would be arguably one of the best attacking trios behind the striker in the world. Trumped only by Ronaldo - Isco - Bale

What about Neymar - Messi - Pedro/Fabregas?

I get your point though :D

you would think Dortmund would still be in the UCL in January

GreyFox said the player would see how his team is positioned in January or words to that effect. Would probably mean its a team that maybe dont expect to get out of the UCL knock out rounds.

They will still be in the CL in January. The bigger question is will they still be in the German Title race or will Munich have run away with it

No idea who the player is, though love the speculation on such high quality players, but I think it will depend hugely on how well we do. If we are in a good position come January and the team is playing quality football then perhaps a player might see joining us as a positive career move. If we are not near the top in terms of points I doubt whether an established player will join a none CL club in January

Personally think it is Suarez. He'll have a lot of personal stuff going on and will want to see an improvement in Liverpool if he were to stay there. The boy is a winner and will jump ship if they're not challenging. He also fits our system perfectly, slotting in on the left and up front when needed. Obvious drawback and risk however.

Reus would be great but I don't see what can change in a few months at Dortmund. Lewandowski leaving would signal something to ambitious players at the club, but that would appear to be happening at the end of this season anyway.

Rooney is another that a few clubs mentioned in the summer, so might be looking to leave. Had a bit of bad blood with Moyes (apparently) and they are still a bit of an "unknown" this year. Don't see him coming to us but is an amazing player. Could only play centrally and blows hot and cold.

Falcao would have been perfect if we didn't sign Soldado. He wouldn't be a £50m priority right now.

All the others simply aren't worth £50m.

I'd rather we buy a LB, RB and a cheaper CF option.

Or Lb, RB and a megastar CF, of course...goes without saying.

50m to spend across the squad would be fantastic. 50m on a single player? Can't see it myself but stranger things have happened.

Was about to say the same thing. Not that I think it will happen in a million years as he won't move to a non CL team and we wouldn't pay his wages but £50m for a 27yrd who is maybe a bit out of favour may mean Man Utd would sell and they are also probably arrogant enough to not consider us a rival.
