I disagree, saying we are "not done with Spain" is ambiguous and leaves open the possibility of both a Spaniard and a player from the Spanish league. The note about RM is just because people would have immediately thought of a swap deal IMO.

I thought it might be Griezmann but he's 22 and Sociedad would no doubt reject anything less than his buy out clause which is 30 mill euros and I doubt they would be keen to lose him with CL football this season

Two years. They have no impetus to sell now. Sure he will be less valuable next summer. But not by much. And it's not like they can sink that money into player recruitment.

Isn't Bilbao's recruitment basically their academy? Thought they were the team that only played Basque players

Well they do, but it's not as if Basque players don't play for other clubs and not just the other Basque clubs so they do buy players

I get that they buy players but it doesn't seem to happen as often, but cash from a buyout put to the club coffers in general would be of benefit to them i would imagine.

Remember the old days when we were trying to buy a washed up David Villa? How times change.

Meanwhile terrible news here at camp Jair. My computer appears to have died and is resisting all attempts at revival. I could fucking cry. Why now? Why at all?

Mine did that the other day. Fucking nightmare until I did the whole 'F8' and 'fix start-up problems' thing.

Still can't believe we went from Benteke to Soldado, let alone signing Capoue and Lamela.

A crazy window. Bale's brilliance has allowed the whole team to move up a level.

I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody. Hopefully this is a cryptic. Most people are likely asleep right now...it's my only hope at cracking one! o_O

I really hope we hear some itk or leaked reports on our left back situation. We clearly still have money to spend and Coentrao is obviously ready to leave Madrid. Yet we've yet to hear anything concrete about him.

I'd much rather skip bringing in a younger player like Hailovic or Vadillo and use that money to
secure our weakest spot in the starting XI.

20 mill euro buy out, I can't see we would offer more

There was pages upon pages of discussion a couple of years back re how Spanish buy-out clauses mean sweet FA to a team like us buying from outside Spain.

Is it for out of league teams as well?

As far as I'm aware the Spanish buy out clauses are only technically obligatory in Spain, however the concept is that they give both player and club an acceptable out, so generally as they are placed high anyway then there's rarely a situation where clubs would not accept a buy out amount even from abroad (I seem to recall Seville rejected a better offer from us for Diego Capel a few years back-thankfully!)

The thing though is Betis are in serious financial difficulties so if anything a lower offer could still get a deal. Vadillo is mainly potential at the moment, he has played a number of games but not enough to really say he's experienced or for that matter really done it and he was injured not long into his La Liga career so it was interupted

Either way it's unlikely we'd be offering 22 mill for him, probably nearer half so I can't imagine it's him

It depends, normally clubs just make a offer slightly above the release clause and this normally gets accepted. I think the issue arises due to the fact that the release clause has to be paid by the player first and that is the issue. I think when the money is given to the player in Spain, the money is subjected to VAT.

Though Kondogbia has just brought out his own release clause for €20million and is expected to go to Monaco and it hasnt been confirmed they paid that tax interestingly.

They brought in Arduriz last summer, Herrera the year before stand out but mostly they have one or two frees and nothing particularly big and of coursde they got in 40 mill euros for Xavi Martinez last year
