It's not as black and white with a club such as Spurs that we have a definitive amount... It's more likely to be we will be willing to invest if the potential benefits of a deal outweigh it's financial cost... E.g through the gaining of experience and boost in shirt sales (Villa) Or the potential to move them on in their peak for huge profits (Halilovic and Jedvaj). This is obviously all going to be within the guidelines of a loose budget.

You really think if the deal ticked all the boxes for us we wouldn't be able to find a couple of extra million 'over the forecasted budget'? (In relation to someone above saying about how could we afford 17 million for Croatian lads if we only had 15 million.)

We ain't setting up LOC's for the good of our health either. I would be astounded if AVB's backing this window was a measly 15 million. Not to mention the likes of what its saying to Bale.

Like you allude to anyway, Levy will buy if it makes good business sense to do so.

Wow - Villa fans really seem to think that Benteke is above us! Makes me want him even more.

Some of them are also delusional and actually believing there might be a chance of a swap deal with Chelsea involving Lukaku

Never pay too much attention to the mood in here, it can change in a second ! Bad ITK equals a day of people wrist slitting then a second later we get ITK about Spur's tea lady meeting Jackson Martinez for a French fancy and it'll be back to elation. Always been the way of this thread !

Agree on what people are saying about the financials - we view each deal separately, we look for good value whether its a Holtby on a free, or an undervalued Paulinho at 17m or even a slightly undervalued Mata at 23m.

We don't have a war chest or a fixed amount of money, we have some money in account, we have good credit with banks and we have collateral in hundreds of different ways.

Failure to get Villa at 8m does not automatically see that 8m transferred onto another target at that price. The failure to get him could result in us getting a deadline day free that offers value or a 18m pound striker who is good value.

It's not linear and fully tangible.

Fuck sake Levy carn't beleive no Crotians or D Villa, Benteke not fit to lace Defoes boot, first game is one moth from now and we got E adebayer no trying and King Jermane up front. I always thought "war chest" was an idiom: being as how it is not distinct to a dialect or region.

I raised the issue because, it was widely publicised that AVB would have £50 million at his disposal for the purpose of buying players on the transfer market. Whether 'War Chest' is an idiom or a Colloquialism, I don't give a damn.

Look... None of us have a F*****g clue how much we have to spend!!!! We can write all the figures in the world but it doesn't mean anything! £15M??? £50m??? Sell Bale and £100m??? Simple answer WE DON'T KNOW!!!! So lets stop all the stupid talk!

Wouldn't surprise me if Baldini didn't know the full extent of our transfer budget.

Either way can we talk about ITK and not made up sums of money.

(P.S. whether in a big box or in Wishkah's web of fiscal intrigue, I too hope that there is at least £50m available. I'd rather it was a cheque book which grew to whatever size would satisfy AVB that he could assemble a side to challenge for the title. I am, however, resigned to the fact that Levy knows the limitations of the club's finances and will not allow us to bankrupt ourselves for one shot at glory. Somewhere between those two amounts is the magic amount of cash available.)

I think we all have an idea of what is needed if the team is to be competitive next season and a rough idea of what that would require in transfer expense. We all have justified doubts about that transfer expense happening!
No doubts that it will get more expensive to be a fan next year though!

Getting to the stage where I am afraid to hear from the ITK's , as it seems to be one bit of bad news after another. Will be really disappointed if we do not get our dealings done early for a change and not go into the season half cocked like last year. Then again its tricky business, we do not have the millions others have to flash about and none of us really know what the ins and outs of tranfer's really are......still some on DL and Mr Baldini, get the finger out and lets see 2 new faces in the next fortnight.

If the season started next week we'd have a strong team. I'm more concerned about outgoings right now.
