I thought the idea of employing Baldini was to conduct the transfers, seems like Daniel Levy is getting all the flak for everything, not a mention of Baldini.

Yesterday, everyone was tearing their hair out because of a report saing Villa did not want to come to us because we are not in the CL. Now it seems he does want to come, but we have not offered enough, I'm confused.

Think I need to lie down for a while........

Too many people got too excited too quickly about Villa. Im pretty sure it was said all along that whilst we had met his advisors and he was impressed with the training ground etc and would consider a move, no fee had actually ever been agreed or talks on that taken place yet.

For any player aged 31, nearly 32, do we want to be paying 15m and £100k a week wages? Doesn't sound like a good deal when you put it like that and many others said the same thing when the rumour first came out.

I think this is one we will have to negotiate on and maybe be patient, £10m is fair and we can nearly cover that by selling say Defoe, but how quickly do Barca come down to that valuation? As he is currently on holiday as well I think we have 2-3 weeks time wise to get a deal done.

Of course and I wouldn't argue that. Is Villa a realistic signing in your opinion?

I think/hope so. We all know the type of deal Levy likes to make but sometimes I think we need to be a little more flexible - hard to say that without being privy to the intricate financial details, but Villa would represent a huge statement of intent. Not only the benefits from having him on the field but the message it sends to others, potential recruits and our own star players. Psychologically it could be huge for the Club which could easily outstrip the financials mapped out for the deal.

So if we look at in terms of having a budget and certain a portion of it being 'protected' and some left over for a different type of signing like Villa - it would look eminently sensible to me. Being prudent and ambitious if you like, but equally in a measured and sound way. A strategy that is still building for the future and one that allows us to be more aggressive in terms of going for it a bit more this season.

Would you be inclined to agree?

I want to agree mate I just can't see how it's feasible at the moment. Would love it to happen though.

How quickly we jump on stories that enable endless whinging... For what it's worth, Mundo also have an article today where they link us as one of the possible destinations of Kaká. They are a Barca mouthpiece and about as reliable as Marca stories about Madrid. Some of you need to take a deep breath.

Where was the comment/ITK that a player had been shown around our training facilities?

I haven't the time to troll through countless transfer list's but i cannot remember ant club paying what Barca want for a 31 year old player, and one that has just come off a major injury? Levy is doing the right thing in this instance and i just cannot for the life of me see any other PL club paying the current asking price. With Arsenal currently chasing Higuan and the remaining top four covered up front, no other PL team would dream of paying what is currently being asked.

I think that Levy is home and hosed on this one A&C.
Or perhaps Athletico come in and pay the additional €3 million that Levy is unwilling to cough up.
And what do we do then? Go back in for Leandro? 'Cause if we've failed to meet his valuation for the last 3 years, I can't see Internacional suddenly becoming accommodating this window.
Or do we chase Soldado? Benteke? These 2 are gonna cost £20+ millions. If Levy isn't prepared to pay the Villa money, do we really think he's gonna spend that big?
So what happens then? We probably scrap around on deadline day for a last-minute deal, and end up with a Louis Saha or Frazer Campbell. Or go with just the 2 strikers for the 2nd season in succession?
Once again, Levy is playing a dangerous game. Lets hope he doesn't fuck it up.

Or maybe since there are TWO MONTHS until deadline day we have other targets that you and I don't know about and we'll go sign those...

Sorry to mention twitter but Villa has retweeted a photo of himself at a wedding (taken yesterday). Perhaps he isn't spending every waking hour thinking about us.

I assume (onion only) that there are negotiations going on in the background. Meanwhile, all concerned are probably having a life. Doesn't make Levy or Villa a ****!

He gets criticised over and over and over again, every time a paper posts bollocks that puts us in a bad light he gets bollocked by all and sundry. Does he deserve to be criticised for every little thing? If a paper said we were thinking of signing some Billy Big Bollocks for 30mill, then said Big Bollocks goes to Monaco or Shitty, you'd no doubt criticise Levy then, and the reason will always be 'not showing any ambition'.

He gets criticized when, during the ACN, with an injured Defoe and Adebayor in Africa, we had no strikers. Otherwise, the papers rarely if ever call out Levy. Hence the moniker "teflon Danny". No one is saying spend 30 million or "pull a Leeds/Portsmouth" as every Levyite tends to scream from the mountain top anytime someone points out the clear need for a striker. But in my opinion, a player of Villa's quality and pedigree is available to a club like ours roughly every 15- 20 years (last one being Jurgen). If he is out of our price range, fine. But if it is a matter of 2-3 million, that is simply ridiculous and poor management if it falls through because of that, imo.

I'd be happier if we land the target/s we've been working on for the last 2 months, since there 5 WEEKS until the season starts and it's taken us 3 YEARS to NOT sign the last striker we were linked with.

Why is the Villa deal gonna fall through?
Why can't people see that we are in negotiations regarding the fee which is perfectly normal?
Seems to me there's a fair chance that the problem could be at his end regarding this inflated wage he was due from Barca next year, and if that's the case then it's not our problem to sort out.
If David Villa wants to play for Tottenham next year, he'll sign.

Sorry Jair, but Levy is not allowed to negotiate, how dare he do what he feels is best for the club. He should offer whatever fee the selling club wants straight away, so that the team is ready for the league. It doesn't matter if they want more than we're budgeted for, we should pay it, because it's just 2-3 million. It's not like with that money we could give someone a 50k per week pay rise, I dunno, someone like that Welsh bloke who looks alot like Kenny McEvoy.
