I said 'by the same stance' he'll deserve criticism too.

Is it only fair then that our dear leader is a genius when he gets a couple of million off but when (if) we miss out on a player because Levy doesn't come out of the deal feeling like he's won, nobody can say boo to a goose?

I think it's double standards.

Anyway, the deal is still on as far as we know so let's wait and see if we're hopefully still patting Levy on the head in the next few days rather than saying 'if only'.

But there is a very vocal and very large part of the online Spurs community that criticises him every single time we miss out on someone, or they sign elsewhere. The attempt for balance would be fine, if he was Mr. Teflon, but he's not, half the fanbase wants him out and they're very good at reminding us of it. I've had many discussions with fan's who believe that Spurs have never progressed under Levy, that 'Arry was the only reason we made the CL and that AVB is destined to fail.

Can you blame those who believe in him for not criticising him? When they have to deal with endless Levy criticism, warranted or not. It's hard to believe there's double standards when there is such a strong anti-Levy sentiment out there.

A lot of this comes from the leandro deal. But reading reports southampton are coming up against the same problems, 1 of his third party owners wants to cash in and move him to europe, the other wants him to stay in brazil until after the world cup and then cash in.

Here we go, the league of extraordinary Levy lovers are out in force. Levy's a good chairman, no doubt about it, but he can get it wrong and frequently does get it wrong. If David Villa slips through our fingers then it'll be high up there on his list of errors.

We've just paid 17m for Brazil's current CM (we now boast 2/3rds of Brazil's midfield), the ink is barely dry and already Levy's back to being a tight fisted **** with that "reputation".

Do you think there could possibly be a good reason we don't sign Villa, if we don't, or do you think it's just because Levy doesn't like his soul patch ?

Such strong anti-Levy sentiment?

You should visit COYS sometime, you'll see what I mean. Also, there is a sentiment, you might not see it, does not mean it's not there.

Oh and a quick perusal of the Spurs Chat has thrown up such great threads like; Levy you cost us Bale, All credit to avb but Levy you let us down, Has Levy done it again?, Levy has just cost us Bale Goodbye Bale, Is Levy a good chairman??, Is Levy at it again? etc etc.

Seeing as you have taken time to find these threads don't you think it would be a good idea to take this Levy chat into one of them instead of it going on in here for about the millionth time

But surely if we don't sign Villa the 'good' reason would still have been apparent when we started the negotiations?

It's how far you take brinkmanship and does it cost you, that's my albeit slight concern at the moment. Paulinho for me is a funny one, it's like the Modric deal, Levy was obviously convinced by him and backed it. My concern is that he doesn't back David Villa.

Can't we just wait till the transfer window is over before deciding if it's good or bad?

Paulinho is 24 with re sale value, huge protection to your investment...and with the potential to rise of course. Big difference in terms of the mind set over the two deals.

Same applied to when we signed Modric. Young, investment protected with potential to rise. These deals will always see Levy act quicker in a more convinced manner IMO.

Of course and I wouldn't argue that. Is Villa a realistic signing in your opinion?

What's it cost us so far ?

How does Levy's performance as Chairman compare to other comparable clubs. How does it compare to previous Spurs chairman ?

There doesn't seem to be a rational balance of criticism. People who manage their own finacial affairs, maybe even have their own small/medium/large businesses seem completely incapable of apply the same basic economics principles to Levy.
