He is now fit - this is most significant factor.

No he is not the Messiah (or a very etc.....) he is anther competent footballer who can be used when required, an option.

I'm delighted for Tom H.

Let just keep thing in perspective.

Now back to trying to find a live feed for the wigan game!

Genuine question, can anyone remember a game where Huddlestone was MOTM?

I'm talking back as far as you can remember?

But it has to be from the start. A good 80 odd minutes or full 90.

And the first poster that writes 'yesterday' so that a load of sheep mark it as 'winner' because it's the funniest thing since Pope Gregory IX telephoned Captain Darling to tell him that their cook had been selected for the England Cricket team and must set sail for the West Indies immediately, is a ****.

The question really is this: Can Huddlestone contribute for us as the season runs down? Of course the coach likes to be seen to get his starting line-up right but ultimately it is even more crucial to get the team right over the whole 90 minutes....which usually includes changes. Surely the most recent form is the most relevant. He has looked like a decent option. I can see him sharing the next few games with Parker and it really doesn't matter who starts.

A Blackadder reference seamlessly woven into a post I fully agree with, take me I'm yours Bear.

Our goal wasn't against the run of play yesterday, mind.

I'll give you the preceding 8 seconds as I said.

The similar sort of time I give the missus...

If you share the midfield with Luka Modric, VDV, Bale, Lennon is it conceivable that you could play exceptionally well and never take MOM because of the even more brilliant performances of the others?

If your style of play is to be metronomic in your passing, to retain possession, is it possible that you will never stand out as much as those you provide a platform for attack for?

If you favour pointless rhetorical questioning to try to win an argument that no one else is having,

Then yours is a shallow existence and, which is more, you'll be a pedantic c**t, my son.

(however good your references) ;-)

No I'm sorry, that doesn't wash :)

Name a MOTM performance or get out.

And before the Blackadder reference sent it a little off the beaten track, this was meant as a genuine question, because I think I could remember an FA Cup replay at home (?) where I came away thinking that Huddlestone could have been MOTM, but apart from that I can't put my finger on any others. I'm sure there are some...I'm just asking people to remember them.

But Hudd doesn't do this with any consistency. If he did he'd have played more and been more valuable than he has over the last 7 years. This is the problem. The discrepancy between what your eyes tell you and what actually happens most of the time. Hudd's career is stacked full of games where he isn't making a difference, isn't executing passes that allow them to build effective attacks within the structure of their attacking play. In fact he is often doing worse, he is costing us with his lack of delivery and poor mobility. I haven't mentioned a single stat in this thread by the way. Cheap shot.

It wasn't intended as a cheap shot, just that you normally do BC.

I agree he hasn't been consistent enough in doing this - because he hasn't been playing in a three man midfield. How could he do it consistently when he's clearly compromised when in a midfield two, and consequently so are we.

Sorry what?

If Hudd is metronomical with his passing then Clint Dempsey is Zinedine Zidane.

And he's patented the little chip with backspin.
Many of the others that make an occasional successful long pass
are crossfield balls, particularly Dawson, Walker and Benny,
rather than incisive or penetrating through balls.

Starting is not the only yardstick either.
Both Hud. and Defoe are probably better coming on as subs.
but that does not diminish their usefulness to the team and AVB will know that.
As others have said the formation has got to be right to suit him which by happy coincidence
AVB's preferred option probably does.
Finally, for the moment, saying that one player is not the same as another,
or doesn't do certain things as well as another is no reason to write them off.
Just saying.

The Hud argument is central to our understanding of ourselves as a club
If they ever do bring in marks for artistic merit he will be essential to our progress.
I love that boy. Sorry. Emotion slip there.

Really? Can't you google that shit?

And I'm staying. I've put pants on my head and pencils up my nose and that makes me dangerous to Bears.

Erm. We can't really argue over a metaphor but I would imagine it is a lot easier to describe Thudds passing as regular and rhythmical that to describe Dempsey as a footballer, let alone ZZ.

Eh? So because I moved from the south east to Bristol and can only get to 4-5 games a season at the lane, I'm less of a fan?

You do realise people go on day passes because season ticket holders won't be there...or I guess you'd prefer to be surrounded by empty seats.

Funnily enough I have the opposite experience. I try to make the most of every opportunity to go to the Lane, but I'm getting put off by moaning regulars who seem to think we have a god-given right to win every game 5-0.

I would never describe Tom Huddlestone's passing as regular and rhythmical, he regularly got outpassed in terms of regularity by Jenas and Palacios. Does he make the most of the ball he gets, not for me - it just looks quite pretty.

And to think before the game I thought Thudd would be out of place against citeh. Foot firmly in mouth.

Where the feck did i say you or anyone was less of a fan !
What i said was i got into it with day pass fans because of the way they where supporting the team/players.
If you read my post properly i said i dont even go to the lane anymore ... i was giving you my experience & reason why i dont go anymore so how could i be a moaning regular.
Get of your horse fella
To be quite honest i'd rather be in the ground with empty seats if it meant a better atmosphere if you see what i mean!..fans giving their all.. the last time it happened was v shahktar 3 days before the league cup final v man u when 26.000 turned up & sounded like 100.000 supporting a team of kids & no marks.

HAS ANYONE THOUGHT OF A GOD DAMN GAME YET OR NOT?

FUCK.

I remember one of his first games away at Man City when he crashed in that thunderbastard on the half volley, I thought he was MOTM that day although it was a long time ago...
