Now I know most on here will not think that 'ol square jaw is the right player that we want and you are probably right. But I am not so sure that he isn't the player that we need.

What I think is that we need someone with his work-rate and industry. The guy never stops running and chasing the ball down, never puts a pass astray, retains possesion well. This is exactly the type of player we need.

With the way we cant keep the ball and dont like to chase it down, I reckon he would be a good signing. Someone to tighten the ship. He is pretty fast and can cross well too. He definately doesn't shirk his defensive responsibilities either. He would also provide good competition for Lennon while offering something different. He can also play left wing if need be.

He is apparently available for a cut-price as well which is something that might get Levy interested. I would welcome him if the price was right. Add him Sandro and Parker, and we might not seem so work-shy.

What do you think?

Big no from me.
We need players that improve the first eleven, not filling the squad with mediocre players.

I think there is some merit to what you say but even I'm very far from convinced. If he's available for a bargain price I can already see DL's nostrils twitching though.

And a big NO from me as well but if he's available at a bargain bucket price, Levy will buy him.

It's not who we need right now... if we were ditching Half the Midfield squad players due to getting good price, then i could see sense in replacing a bundle of them with a player like Milner, but right now the money must go into other players.

I think Milner is an ok player and he has proven that he can "do a job" on the right flank, so at a push we could grab him for RM/Lennon back-up, but I stand by my point that if we need anyone this window then the focus should be on 1st improvers, not squad players.

If for any reason he joined in Jan I wouldn't cry, but I would be asking questions as to why him vs others.

Not a player I like so its a no from me, but I agree with the OP that we need some more players with his type of attitude and workrate.

I can't see him being cheap either, even with a reduced transfer fee he must be on big wages.

Milner is far superior than Lennon and before he joined Citeh was arguably as good as Bale. We should definitely be in for him. You would all be surprised how good he is if he joined - that's why Citeh offered £28m for him and not £28m for Lennon; for which when they signed Milner, Lennon had his best season for us.

Cut price but big the cut? Even 50% of 28 million is too expensive if he's on 100 grands a week.

Basing any sort of opinion on the amount that teams pay for players is a bit silly.

Or should we also be bang in the market for £35m man Andy Carroll?

FWIW I agree with you that Milner is a good player and would be a useful player in our squad. But he's not nearly as good as Bale.

I rate Milner very highly, would love us to sign him. He get's a lot of stick for some reason, especially for England, but he's very hard working, wins the ball a lot and chips in with a few goals and decent amount of assists. I would have thought the wages would be a sticking point. But I think he'd be a great addition to a midfield 3 and/or wing cover

He turned us down when at Leeds if I remember correctly. That said, he would be a great addition to the squad. One of our obvious weaknesses is depth of squad, and strength on bench. Milner would immediately test Lennon's resolve to hold on to his shirt, as well as add defensive options when playing away. A big yes from me.

He's a man I think who doesnt have natural position, when he plays CM you think he would look more comfortable on the wing and on the wing you think hes more suited to the middle of the park
