Beligan Reporters on it now.. no clue of his reliability and also the bird emojis... maybe a trait to keep in mind as we look at players as we have the pigeon and now looking at the cardinal emoji player lols

"?⚪️⚫️ #Tottenham tries Yannick #Carrasco ! ?️ Real talks going on despite the doubt that #THFC can meet the high financial conditions of #Atletico . #Conte push...
?? And Yannick #Carrasco would like to discover the #PremierLeague . ⌛️ To be continued."

I had just started convincing myself he wasn’t the right fit for us:cautious:

Swapping carassco and Doherty would be immense
I mean depends if we trust Spence at RB I guess. As Carassco has hardly ever, if ever, played as a RWB (transfermarkt has him having played RM 3 times in his career, but not clear if that's as a wingback or in a 4-4-2 for example) and for what it's worth he almost exclusively plays from the left even in more forward positions.

I'm not that bothered by carassco tbh. He's not that good, has never truly cemented his place in that atletico team and is still a little inconsistent. I can take it or leave it. But also, he doesn't seem the right fit for us at all. Do we really need another left sided player?

Apparently this one not terribly reliable

Sensible post, totally agree with you.

Him and Perisic, both two footed, playing on the wings would be incredibly threatening and difficult to defend against. His versatility could allow us to move on both Lucas and Doherty and be perfectly fine in terms of depth. I’d still want a Kulu back up though, but you’re likely looking at a cheap option as Carrasco would be expensive.

Big name from a big club = hype

If you break this down logically then as you say it makes no sense and doesn’t offer us the balance we need.
Is carassco even a big name? I mean he's a decent player, but has never been a top performer in la Liga or anything.

I don't believe for a minute that if we sign him he'll primarily play at WB. Just can't see it

Been one of Atleti's best players imo

Pretty sure that if we sign him he will come in "officially" as Gil's replacement, playing mainly LW/RW and then only LWB/RWB as cover. I can absolutely see him nailing down the RWB role as the season goes on though, given that he is excellent at beating his man and creating chances which is exactly what we need there. Not to mention he can finish.

60 goal involvements in 162 appearances in La Liga. Love to know what you class as a top performer if it aint that

Not a big name, but he is one of those under the radar players that when you support the team you realize how important he is.

before we sign Perisic he made a lot of sense for the left wing back role. In terms of balance now, I don’t know if it makes sense but if Conte thought he could get him to work on the right or just as a very versatile body he would be a great addition

He already said his guess would be Adama

imo maybe he is somehow involved with Regulion/Trippier deals, and they were interested in Emerson Royal earlier in the window... last min creative deal of sorts?

This seems to match up with what Trix said. JC is the tricky one of another so far unmentioned player leaves, but there's *another* target for the Gil replacement

This also seems to tie in with POK saying there's a very secretive Gil target that they aren't telling anyone about (but isn't JC)

Carrasco is exactly the type of signing we need, great player able to play a number of positions.
Which is why it won't happen.

One thing that's sort of hard to figure in all this is that Doherty is clearly one of Kane's best mates on the team. Hard for me to see us moving Doherty on right as we're hoping that Kane signs a new deal. Not to say that the one is dependent on the other, but the timing feels a little off. Very hard though to imagine us going with 4 RWBs, unless the idea is to plug Carrasco more into a variety of positions.

I'd love it if we got him, but surely that would be the end of Moura and Doherty (or Emerson)?
