I saw someone complain the other day about the fact that we've made a good, space requiring, movement necessitating cross to Crouch to nod down for VDV a common tactic. All that made me think was 'would you prefer the old long punts up to Mido to flick on for Keane?'.

We're going through a sticky patch at the moment, but we've got it pretty good and definitely better than when Jol was running the show. He improved us imeasurably, but for two seasons running under him our first ten games yielded 4 points. The first time round, we recovered and finished 5th, mainly off the back of Berbatovs genius, but the second time around it never looked like improving. Thanks for the great moments BMJ, but I don't want you back.

But with the players we have now that wouldn't happen; back in 05-06, once the rest of the EPL started closing down Carrick, there wasn't a great deal of creativity in the rest of midfield. Jol's shown at HSV and Ajax he can play excellent attacking football if he has the players to do it with.

Things never looked like improving in 06-07 because it's pretty difficult doing any job with a knife wedged firmly between your shoulder blades. Once Random had contacted the club over the summer and let it be known he was interested in earning very large quantities of money—sorry, managing in the EPL—the writing was on the wall.

But, no. Absolutely not.

And as Daniel says, three dodgy results (two at grounds where we've never had much joy all through our history) and some people are going all Caspar Milquetoast. WTF is their problem? This is as good as it's been for 25 years.

A couple of dodgy results and everyone is panicing and whinging. We have never had it so good, I just wish more people would realise it...

Says who? I never wanted him to leave and that when things were going well as they are now. The OP even says "If Harry leaves" not "should we sack Harry?". Even though I think Jol is a better manager sacking Harry would destabilise us, as it did when we sacked Jol. Still every game that Crouch gets picked ahead of everyone else is a game I lose even more patience with Redknapp.

I understand the OP didn't say get rid of Harry, but its just another part of the general vibe on here that is depressing me far more than the recent poor league form

I love Martin Jol and Martin Jol loves me, I miss him, want to see him bear hug a Lennon or a Modric

Interesting result on the voting thus far. I'd like to see another poll, Who do you like more, Redknapp or Jol?

Managers don't usually do that well in their second spell at a club, so sadly no I wouldn't want him to come back.

Martin Jol back at the lane if Harry leaves for the England job? Yes please.

Possibilty of it happening when Levy is still in charge? Zero. Jol wouldn't want to work for Levy again, and Levy is far too proud to go hand in cap asking him if he could please come back (giving Jol the perfect opportunity to tell him where to stick his offer).

I voted no. I love the big man and he's got a great p.r. image, but for two nagging reasons it's a no.

1 He was seriously (allegedly) thinking of jumping ship for the Toon. Who's to say that wouldn't happen again for real if another big club came in for him.

2 The law of "never go back." If you're loved and revered somewhere, especially if the manner of your departure elevates you almost to martyr / legend status, to return gives you nothing more than an opportunity to tarnish that.

Look, Jol was and is an absolute legend, but IMO, whatever it is worth, he doesn't cut the mustard at an elite level. He is more of a Europa League sort of level man.

I don't think we ever heard the full story of the Newcastle business; the first mention of it was August '07, when it was leaked via BEN or Dragon1, the prime suspect for the leak being none other than Paul 'Oh no, I've lost all my money!' Kemsley. We don't even know when it happened, whether he approached the Barcodes or they him, or whether it was simply a ploy on his part, as his negotiations with Fulham this summer were thought to have been. There was, after all, a suspicion that he was regarded as either a stop-gap or hired help until we got a genuine world-class manager in. (Step forward Wendy Random!)

The 'never go back' law is my objection, too. Heart says yes, head says 'No! No! No!' I'm also very happy with Harry, and if Cliff Jones reckons he's the best manager we've had since Bill, I'm not going to tell him he's talking cock.

But really we are more of a Europa League sort of team that had a good season last year, Normal service will resume by next August

Martin Jol is doing well at Ajax,Chris Hughton is doing very well at Newcastle and Damien Comolli has just joined Liverpool.

Perhaps we had the DREAM TEAM and just didn't know it!

I would not say no to Jol and Arnesen back together.

What was up with Santini? Him and BAE. The French are fruitcakes. Gotta love it.
