I would say 18 months to 2 years are really needed, and I would like to think I would give someone that long. We have a lot to sort out with a bloated squad full of mediocrity and a mish-mash of systems that players are appropriate for, so a manager and DoF need time. But, I agree with other posters that it's hard to give a definitive answer because some coaches / teams give the impression of having a plan and showing improvement even if it's rocky (Poch and Klopp first years) and other coaches / teams look kind of hopeless (Nuno).

But the real reason I wanted to post is that every time this thread pops up I think of that "straight to jail" bit from Parks and Rec, and I can't help that there's a Spurs version of it for a lot of our fans. Something along the lines of:
  • You play three at the back? Straight to jail. Right away.
  • Four at the back with Dier and Sanchez? Right to jail.
  • Give up goals? Jail.
  • Don't score goals? Jail.
  • Outnumbered in midfield? Jail, right away.
  • Sideways or backwards passing? We have a special jail for you.
  • Don't start Kane in a CL Final? Jail. Do start Kane but not Lucas Moura in a CL Final? Also jail. Very interesting. Do start and don't start, both jail.

After being involved in some smaller professional clubs you can always normally get the feelers after about 10 games how the season is going to go I think you can see in those 10 games how it’s going to go.

Nuno took me about 5/6

Not sure I'll trust anyone who agrees to work for Levy so as soon as they're announced really

More relevant question should be:

How long is Levy willing to give a manager before undermining and not supporting them?

Until the ink’s dry on the contract said new manager just signed, then it’s Levy Time 🤬

to me, 3months, or 10 games.

thats the defacto probation period over here and i guess its long enough to see if the person is a good fit for the job.

the thing is, as a fan we don't see what happens behind the scenes in training, so it's sometimes hard for us to judge.

anyway.... fingers cross we get someone that finally is able the unlock the talent in our squad.

Depends on the type of football, if manager looks like he wants to be here, tactics, subs, quality of the team, results etc. If we go full Zeman and lose 8 games in a row then I don't care if it's attacking football or not.

I'm with Hudd on this. Absolute minimum 2 full seasons with the understanding of building something pretty much from scratch.

Never going to happen with our fans and board though. If theres no visible signs of improvement within 10 league games the pressure will be on. The groans and boos will start and Levys itchy finger will twitch too soon, as per.

I was about to say, at this point, its almost a certainty that the manager will be the wrong choice - and we are still 2 months from them even being appointed.

Difficult question to answer. If we bring a new manager in and positive things look like they are happening then of course you would give them 18 months/ 2 seasons.

But I answered 10 games as no top half Premier league club would retain someone who say won 1 , drew 2 and lost 7 in their first 10 games. Doesn't matter who they are.

Pfft, I'm happy to declare they're the wrong choice before they're even hired. Go hard or go home.

Unless it’s catastrophically bad, you cannot expect to judge anyone until after at least a season and a half. At a minimum. How can you possibly evaluate unless you give someone the backing, confidence and belief that they will be empowered to get their philosophy across.

I really feel that even if it doesn't work for the manager any bad run should be followed with 'Levy Out' chants over any negativity towards the manager

It’s going to depend a lot on whether I thought the manager was a dumbass appointment to start with.

I m totally against Ange getting the job, I fear Levy is his own worst enemy someone who just is in his own head

That said if Ange gets the job I will not be getting my knives out, though I feel like I will stop caring about spurs

I think alot of spurs fans are fools at the moment and letting Levy getting away with the total mismanagement of the club

We have no DoF, we're pursuing a manager who doesn't have a lot of experience outside of Asia and Scotland, who isnt young btw, We have no women team manager. Everything is a mess

I think im done but I wont react if we have a terrible bad 6 months, I would give spurs 15 months tbh to judge him

That said I can see us losing 3 big players in 18 months tbh

We started with Tuchel and Nag, ended with Ange. He is a good coach, but the whole club are in a mess. I would be mad if I believe we can make top 6 next year. We definitely are going to start playing an attacking football, but our rivals will increase the gap between us and top 6 next season.
