Thanks for the feedback guys, I have no insight to any of this living on the other side of the world.

Still curios though, other teams can afford the wages yet we cant.

Are all the top 4 teams stadiums bigger than the lane ?

Twizzle i think its more along the lines of we wont pay the wages rather than we can't afford to. And yeah, obviously Old Trafford and The Emerates are bigger than WHL, even Anfield has 10,000 more seats than us, and Chelsea cap is about 42,000 i think.

We have to be realistic and every Spurs Fan should understand this. We are competing with the best in world football but we have excellent and responsible owners not to allow the club to be bankrupt.

What we can afford what is available is what we can do. until we build that new stadium we and rightly so have to operate within our financial structure.

I don't believe it has anything to do with the above.

It isn't that we cannot attract players, but more so won't be buying anyone who is not an improvement on what we currently have.

We can talk about how many goals our strikers have not scored in the last year, but there are circumstances surrounding that.
Fact remains that form is temporary and class will prevail. We have some class strikers, certainly Defoe is up there, probably not right up there, but he can do a job.

He needs to start scoring in the league - it probably has something to do with how we are structured to play at the moment, with one striker and VDV playing off them, maybe its time to give Defoe and Crouch a little run - I think VDV could do with a little break personally.

Is Saurez really better than what we have? I'm not so sure, and for £28m, you really need to be sure.

Is Carroll better than what we have? Argueably he is, but for £35m - its an absolutely outrageous amount of money to buy on someone who isn't really proven in the PL yet. Yeah he might become the next 'Shearer', but he also might become the next Bellamy too.

I'm gutted we have improved our team, I really am, but the players linked to us, I really wasn't so sure would improve us in anyway.

It's been even more difficult seeing our rivals improve their squads, I admit. And even more difficult that the last few games, have seen some of the worst performances we have given in the last few years...

Guess tonight will tell us a fair bit!!

while some of the other stadiums are bigger, the feedback here is that they dont sell out like we do

if DL had so much cash to splash, as suggested by some of the size of the offers, why didn't he simply pick up a Suarez or the like and put some aside for increased wages, makes more sense to me than offering some one like Aguero 35 or 40 mill

I also wonder about harry for the first time ever, some of his comments were disappointing to say the least, he's good at saving teams from relegation and improving mid table teams, but does he have the mid table mentality but not the top 4 mentality. he seems to be looking for another VDV, or Gallas on a free or some sort of bargain from some where

I think if we are going to be a top 4 team you need to top 4 mentality and you need to pay overs and forget the bargains, worked for Chelski and scousers and we seem to have no shortage of money

I think the problem we had was we were targeting players whom play for sides that at the minute are trying to get into the top 4 of their own leagues. Plus the fact in Spain the players have release clauses in them that means if you want these players you need to offer stupid amounts , that along with dealing in January were you don’t have very long to get in a replacement hindered us. If we were to go back in for a player come May me might stand a better chance, as it gives the selling club plenty of time to target a replacement. But I think we should look elsewhere France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. For me there is value in Germany like Kießling, Helmes, & Elia. Sure we bought Berbatov in from the Budesliga and look at the impact he made. And we should be targeting the up coming talent in Europe even it is going to cost us, the likes of Lukaku, Ioannis Fetfatzidis, Ninis, Marin, Ruiz, Christian Eriksen,Andrej Kramaric, Sime Vrsaljko, Alexis Sanchez. Or even targeting the South American youth like Nicolas Lodeiro & Neymar. I know there is a lot of risk with signing these players whether they can adapted to the League or can they fullfil their potential.

Secondly the club for me needs to look at the scouting network, and how it works. Surely Redknapp should be giving the scouts the details on the types of player we are after and once identified and going over them we should decide on how we should be looking into acquiring them . Before the Window it was known we need someone who could hold up the ball and was a bit mobile, Pazzini, Llorente someone like that, so why bid for Aguero or Rossi?

The tax excuse is rubbish, it's the same or near enough the same in other EU countries.

The problem is, revenue. Daniel Levy quite rightly will not break our wage structure because the other top sides double the gate receipts we get, week in, week out.

Daniel's leadership has got us this far, guided us to the CL and made us one of the best run Clubs in the league, and not by being tight, we've spent a lot of money over the years.

I completely back him in this window. £35m+ for Carroll and similar fee's touted for Rossi is absolutely crazy money. Harry said Forlan wanted 140k a week a well, which is ridiculous!

What happens if we'd got Forlan in on that wage, Levy would have VDV, Bale, Gallas, Lennon, Modric, Defoe etc knocking on his door asking for a pay rise.

Let's be sensible here lads, whilst we're at the Lane there is a limit to our resource. Levy runs the Club superbly and if things do/don't happen, it will always be in our best interests, ALWAYS!
Wrong, any player on an existing contract in Spain pays 18% tax. Forlan would have needed £140k a week to match his existing contract.

Totally agree with those who are saying that it's about the wages. That stadium is needed asap!

We have only been in the champions league for 5 mins in the grand scheme of things so it is going to be hard to attract players of the calibre we need on the basis of how well we've been doing, so then it all becomes about money. There are not enough top end footballers out there who would play just for the name of the club unless the club has been doing well for a good few years like Chelski, Man u, Liverpool. I fear we do'nt quite fall into their category as a team yet so a 4th place finish and a good run the the champions league, at least for the next 2-3 of years is defo needed to attract players to the club... if we can achieve this, hopefully it will coincide with the stadium plans so we will be able to afford the ludicrous wages that these players demand!

Spursontheloose had hit the nail on the head.

Cement our place in the CL and they will start to come. It willbe difficult but sure we never do things the easy way anyway, now do we?

But is'nt there some sort of tax refund for foreign workers when they leave the country after their job is done?

Probably because we gave them half a fucking hour to decide whether to uproot from the countries they were living in. Because we showed no real interest at all, and were whoring ourselves around Europe throwing cash at anyone at all. Three of our best signings in recent years, Modric, Bale and Berbatov all explained how the club's courtship of them was the main factor in their coming here, i.e. they were made to feel wanted.

This was a spectacular balls-up. Money is not the issue, we have spent more than almost every other Premiership Club in recent years, and it seems like we were offering £30 mil plus this window, its the disastrous transfer policy that's to blame. What was the point of getting in the CL if we weren't gonna try and stay there??

Everything Levy does isnt 'ALWAYS' for the best of the club, remember Santini? The whole Jol/Ramos debacle? We missed out this January, and last summer, I fear that we may have missed a golden opportunity to cement our place in the CL this year.

Liverpools gate receipts are no way considerably more than ours slightly bigger stadium but lower ticket prices

I concur with everything people have said about wages. We cannot hope to compete with the clubs with large grounds (Arsenal, United) or those funded by billionaire backers (Chelsea, City).

Liverpool are the interesting case. Their gate receipts are comparable with ours and yet they are prepared to compete with the big four in terms of wages. Their wage bill is far higher than ours (as is Villa's) and I cannot see how they can sustain this without a new ground or CL football.

Can't help thinking we new we had no chance of buying any of these overpriced players from la liga,we knew what they were demanding...surely.

Levy has got us all demanding a new bigger stadium even more so......and now , no time to wait for the NLD.

Job done Daniel...hope i'm just a cynic, cos upto recentley i have been 100% behind levy.

70k a week in England is 35k after taxes. I'm guessing many of the La Liga players were making at least 50 to 70k a week after taxes.

This! It is the very same reason that I've left the country and will not even think about returning until my mortgage is paid off. Our 'Democratically elected' government robs us silly and whereas for the vast majority there is no option but to put up with it, I can't imagine why any sane footballer would even think about playing here.
