Friedel 6 had a feeling Lloris would have saved
Walker 7 defended and attacked well.
Dawson 6 got caught for pace.
Chiriches 6 ok.
Vertonghen 7 good
Sigurdsson 5 poor
Paulinho 6 seemed just off the pace wasn't strong enough in the tackle and Newcastle broke away to score.
Dembele 4 poor.
Townsend 6 ok

I will complete your ratings for you.

Double0 3; just gave up, couldn't even be bothered to completed his (already) half assed ratings!
I would be happy if he never started for us again.

Its time AVB stop using the Rock Paper Scissors method for his team selection.

AVB has to take a long hard look at himself today. The keeper had a blinder, some of our finishing was poor and we didn't get the luck of the bounce at all but that shouldn't obscure the Defoe substitution. I can't blame Defoe anymore - he is what he is and we've seen him enough to know what he is. Problem is AVB seemingly isn't seeing it and that is a massive worry.

We were camped in their half, all the momentum was our way and despite the keeper heroics I thought it was inevitable we'd score at least once. They couldn't clear their lines and we were in complete dominance. After Thursday Lamela was the obvious sub for Siggy, we'd still keep our shape and have a ball hungry and creative talent stretching them even more. Bringing on Defoe changed that, yes we still created the odd chance but we lost our shape and our dominance and the pressure eased on Newcastle.

I'm starting to question AVB and I bet I'm not the only one.

Agree Steve. It really is starting to make we wonder a bit, depressingly. His subs have become a massive flaw in his management, there is no denying it anymore - its definitely handicapping us.

I'm a big fan of AVB but some of the things he's doing, and more Importantly is continuing to do without learning, is perplexing the fuck out of me.

Warning signs are fast becoming illuminated.

I can't be the only one not that enamoured with Paulinho?

Thing is, he has had some games where he is really decent and other where he just stinks the joint out.
Poor first half today, better in the second when he had a DM to mop up.

What pissed me off more was Kane sitting in the stands and Defoe getting another game to do fuck all, Kane playing 2 up with Soldado would have been much better with the more open game today, how many more times do we have to witness weak management of our younger players, bet he would have run his nuts off to make something happen on the back of his good cup cameo.

Friedel - 6 - not made for that system

Vertonghen - 6.5 - tried, but is a centre back, hope his heart is still here. Wasted two shots with his right foot.
Dawson - 5.5 - not too bad, he does what he can, his foul for the yellow card was terrible
Chiriches - 7 - like what I am seeing. But he is plaiyng too risky. Huge potential
Walker - 6.5 - average

Paulinho - 4 - would drop him for a few games in the league. no pace, no quick passing, awful shooting. sometimes good in the box but the whole season I am not impressed by a 17m pound man so far
Dembele - 3 - want my old Mousa. This is shit

Townsend - 5.5 - always up against 2, 3 defenders. Got involved, but again bad decision making and his shots are not really dangerous. he has to learn a lot, but he has the potential
Eirksen - 6 - everybody seems to loss his ability to take corners with us (and free kicks). I thought at times not too bad, will need time to show what he can. Should have scored.
Sigurdsson - 4.5 - not a bad player, but it is not working for him at times. He is one of the few men who should shoot from outside the box

Soldado - 7 - again feel sorry for him. He needs more service, did well overall

Kaboul - 7 - if he is fit START him ffs.
Sandro - 7.5 - same
Defoe - 3 - Joke of the day was his substitution, Lamela all day long

AVB - 0 - I give him about one more month. We need results and improving. I don't see any improve game by game. Football is a fast moving business. If we hang on too long and don't manage to win sth or qualify to the CL, we can kiss Hugo and JV goodbye.

I think with Capoue back we should see better rotation of our central midfield options and Paulinho is struggling a bit which is why it was even stranger to see him brought on midweek.

Still to early to judge the summer signings as annoyingly cliched as it might be - remember Jelavic and Cisse hit the ground running and looked like world beaters?!

Won't see the best of them probably until next season but that doesn't mean they won't make a valid contribution this campaign.

He's basically Gus Poyet isn't he?
that's no bad thing though. but in a team whose attacking play is seemingly put out out by a wet blanket of a headcoach, he's going to look shit, isn't he. let's face it. these are good players. with their bootlaces tied together and a joker going around nicking studs.

Soldado and Sandro were good, everyone else was average/shit.

AVB would have gotten a big fat 0 if i could be bothered to do scores.

Not playing a holding midfielder.
Not playing Lamela
Not playing our best defender.
Bringing on fucking DEFOE and playing him alongside Soldado.

Absolute shambles.
Soldado was good - ffs,I wonder what people are actually watching sometimes, his fault of not it was like playing with 10 men
