I’d be very tempted to play the Llorente and Kane up top like we did at the Bernabeau last season. We always get in a muddle at Anfield trying to play through their rabid early press, and usually gift them a goal.

Tell Toby and Verts to aim balls into Llorente and play off the second ball. Take away their press and keep the game tight and they will get nervous, the crowd too.

Yeah I think that's a very sensible way to approach the game but I don't think we'll see it.

I'm expecting the usual early goal against us here as we try to play through their press and look nervous doing It.

Guaranteed Hugo is nervy with the ball at his feet and Mane is first goal scorer lol.

I'd love us to take away the combination of our nerves and their desperation for an early goal by playing long and totally disrupting the way they play but we won't do it.

I guess we'll try and fit Kane, Alli, Son and Eriksen into the lineup, but hopefully this doesn't mean a narrow 4-3-1-2 formation where Liverpools fullbacks will be given all the time and space in the world.

We definitely have the players to compete, I'm just nervous we wont take the necassary precautions. We managed to pin Liverpool back for most of the game last year, but we had Dembele doing his swan song then...

Think this will be it. Against 99% of teams we have no problem playing through their half hearted press but Liverpool and Man City always make us look suicidal trying to play out from the back.

I would do the same but poch won’t IMO.
To be fair last year tactics at their place nearly worked. They got tired second half big time after pressing like crazy for the first 30 minutes.
If we are going to play this way though we have to get through their early onslaught, which we never seem to be able to do

Yeah I’m very expecting the same old, same old from Poch with the same results.

One of the few games where I think 3 at the back would be a good idea.

Unfortunately I can see another flat back four and diamond in midfield, with our full backs pushing on leaving acres of space for Sala and Mane.

Agreed. I don't understand why Poch is more pragmatic in European matches than he is in the prem. In the away matches in Dortmund this season, and Real Madrid in 2017, we concentrated on keeping it tight and waited for counter attacking opportunities but for some reason away from home against City or Liverpool in the prem we don't do that. Strange.

Completely agree with this. We need someone for Van dijk to compete with in the air leaving kane free.

Also please no Ben Davies in the lineup

All bets are off, after watching us sucumb to both Southampton and Burnley, I just have no idea what should we do to avoid getting beaten at that shithole called Anfield. I leave it in the hands of Poch.

My least favorite stadium, and I cannot see much in the away end the three times I have been.

I think 3 at the back is a certainty the next 2 matches with DIer and Aurier out. Trippier needs help every match as is. Against Liverpool and City, he'll need all the help in the world. Unfortunately, that means Son will not start either match.

Lloris
Toby Sancez Vertonghen
Trippier Sissoko Winks Rose
Dele Kane Eriksen

Gazzaniga, KWP, Wanyama, Lamela, Son, Lucas, Llorente

KWP over Davies as the lone defender. If a CB gets injured, we can go 4 at the back. If Rose gets hurt, we can move Vertonghen to LB and go 4 at the back. If Trippier gets hurt, we'll have an RB available to cover.

We have to play longer than normal and not mess around at the back with the ball, especially first 20 mins. VVD will dominate Kane in the air on straight long balls so we either need to consider starting Llorente (I wouldn't) or need a wider target aerially and I'd play Dele on the left for this reason.

Poch should make the players watch the first half from the Dortmund away game on the coach to get them in the mood to defend properly.

Lloris
Trippier Toby Verts Rose
Sissoko Winks Eriksen
Son Kane Dele

Liverpool have looked ass lately, we can beat them. As long as Kane and Eriksen perform, with the latter seriously needing to pull his finger out.
