Well it seems the Community Shield does count now as a trophy now.......or is that just because it's Man Utd?

I think it would be fantastic for several reasons.
It would mean beating the scum (the blue scum).
It would be silverware.
It will breed a winning mentality.
It'll put this 'playing at Wembley ' bollox to bed before season starts.

It could also be pretty damaging to lose psychologically...

May well be irrelevant though, knowing Arsenal they will beat Chelsea at the weekend and we won't be playing it!

For me its what it represents as well.
It'd be nice to have something physical to show recognition for this seasons achievement.
Highest points total ever.
Highest position in epl ever.
Best defence.
Best gd.
Golden boot winner 2nd year running.
And what have we got to show for it?
Fk all..... yet.

I would rather win it than not, and it wouldn't do us any harm in terms of instilling a winning mentality, but it definitely wouldn;t be something to brag about. It's not much more prestigious than the various pre-season trophies we've won (and a lot of our fans probably aren't even aware of!), such as:

Peace Cup (Korea) Winners: 2005
Vodacom Challenge (South Africa) Winners: 2007
Feyenoord Jubileum Tournament (Holland) Winners: 2008
Barclays Asia Trophy (China) Winners: 2009
AIA Cup Winners: 2015
Whatever-today's-Hong-Kong-trophy-is-called Winners: 2017

You've missed out 'most goals scored' / 'best attack', 'PFA Young Player of the Year for the 5th time in 6 years', 'provider of half the England starting XI' and 'most points per £ net spend AGAIN'.

What we do have to show for it is two golden boots, two PFA Young Players of the Year awards and a photo of Janssen holding a random Hong Kong trophy. :D

Hopefully this hasn't been posted elsewhere but I think I'm right in thinking that should Chelsea win the F.A cup then they play us in the Community Shield? Should put some of the trophyless comments to bed if it all went to plan.

Joking aside. That would be cool.

That's both United and Arsenal with a better season than us now

If we had won any of the trophies either of those clubs had won, and either of those clubs had finished second in the league with our brilliant record, you can bet your bottom dollar their fans would be saying that winning a trophy is okay but the league is the real bread and butter because it is based on consistency.

I will give a clear example:

In 2007 - 08 we won the league cup. ArseAnal finished third and didn't win any trophies. Did they concede that we had had a better season than them, or did they go on and on and on about their pathetic St Totteringham's Day thing? There, you have your answer!

They have both won trophies and fair play to them. It doesn't compare, because they aren't comparable, to us finishing second in the league with a record points total, mammoth plus goal difference, best defence and best attack(ish). We have had a fantastic season and that is all that matters. In their heads we can't win, whatever way around it is - it's called contradiction - so why bother what they say. We have had a great season and have plenty of reason to look to the future with optimism. Think about that and not their petty contradictory bantz.

Use your reason, think logically, Live Long and Prosper...it's the Tottenham Way :)

I must say I f#cken love the FA cup and my lowest moment this season was losing that semi final

In the grand scheme of things second place on 86 points with the best attack and defense is alot harder to achieve than winning the FA cup, but I'd be lying if I personally said I'd prefer second over the FA cup - my oldest memories of football are the FA cup, I love the upsets, the final and most of all the history we have in it...

For me only winning the premier league or champions league tops it, but in modern times it's somehow lost its value which is a great loss to the game

FFS all you people saying we had a better season than Man Utd and Arsenal. Football is about WINNING THINGS....TROPHIES !!! No body remembers who came second, even if it was with 86 points, best goal difference....bla bla bla. That's all bollox. Coming second is "the best of the losers" !!! Players want to win trophies, they don't want to come second. If spurs don't start winning things soon, our players won't stick around. How many players left Arsenal over the last 10 years quoting lack of trophies as the reason for leaving. van Persie and Fabregas to name just 2 of them. Both left and won trophies after leaving. The whole point of a football club is to win stuff, not finish second, second is losing.

So tiger 666 doesn't think the idea is to win stuff. Ok, gottcha. Just sit back and watch all our best players leave if we don't win anything in the next couple of years.
EDIT : shadydan also thinks it isn't about winning stuff.

So you would rather sacrifice our place in the CL in hope to win a 1 off game that has no guarantee on the day. How would you of felt if Poch fielded his strongest team in every match finished 8th and ended up with nothing?

You would of been one of the 1st to moan when 4 of our players requested a move to have the chance to play CL. Players want CL footy, trophies, and money, unfortunately we are not in a position to be able to finance every dream hence why Berbatov, Modic and Bale left
