You reckon we could win the Europa playing like we did in that first half?

I'd really like to get to the bottom of why we've been playing so dreadfully this season. It's a real mystery. Is it the players who can't understand how to play an aggressive, pressing, high energy, intense game, or is it the Manager who's telling them to use weird 'rope-a-dope' tactics, allowing the opposition all the possession they like and just hit them on the break?

Watching Spurs this season has been the hardest work I've done in ages.
I think it’s to do with the World Cup approaching. Nobody wants to get injured and it’s so close now. Look at Richarlison reaction when he got injured. Can imagine most our players are conserving energy for it. Doesn’t just goto shit like that when we was excellent at the tail end of last season. I think will see a different team after the World Cup.

Thanks. So the ball direction wasn't the issue, the issue is that Kane is a minuscule in front of emerson when emerson played the ball.
No that's not the case, Kane was behind Royal, I'm looking at it now and Kane was behind him.
The only thing can be they say the ball was behind him but it wasn't it was level with him there was a bit of Kane ahead of it and a bit behind it as you'd expect.
Royal played it back behind and away from Kane and their player played it to Kane, his movement carried it to Harry Kane.

If it has to take 3-4 minutes to decide then go with the on field decision.

My other gripe is why wasn't that time added on after? At least half of it? That's a good chunk of time for either team to score.

It's been a long, long time since a VAR/ref decision has got me this mad for even an hour after the final whistle. Maybe I need to see it again not half asleep, but I just can't wrap my head around it?
This.

It just shows the mindset of the ref right from the start. I'm not even asking him to be bias towards us. But at least be fair. Another minute wasn't too much to ask for. Yet from the way he officiated and how he immediately blew for full time just showed he's more inclined toward Sporting which was really infuriating.

I don't think he is 'gaslighting' buddy. Just trying to explain (devil's advocate) why it was probably deemed as offside. That's all.

Is the call and the way they went about it annoying as hell? Yes. Is VAR problematic. Double hell yes. Is there a set of stupid rules that they apply to offside, and leverage VAR to implement those rules to within a mm of its life.... YES. And it sucks.
And Kane was only offside because his opponent pushed him ?‍♂️

Am I the only one who thought Bryan was superb?
I thought what he added is what we've needed most of the season. A direct runner/dribbler to take someone on. There's too much aimless crossing, interspersed with Son and Kane at the top of the box getting triple marked with 90% of their possessions getting tackled or shots blocked. Once the opposition's defense is set, if someone was on the outside skillful enough to dribble beyond the defense and threaten, it'd create space for the goal scorers.

I agree with some of the perspectives that on the balance of play and the unfortunate call at the end, we probably deserved the win. Sporting did very little in the first half to threaten, with the exception of Edwards goal. But we showed zero urgency going forward and created nothing.

Second half, we showed a lot more passion and urgency and created chances. Many. Easily enough to score two or three. Likewise, i'd be remiss not to point out that Sporting also had two breakaways that probably should have led to goals.

Thing is... we need to start games on the front foot. Which we aren't doing at the moment. Frankly, we shouldn't even be discussing the sucky decision at the end, as we should have put Sporting to the sword in the first half and carried on in the second.

He’s getting there. He has loads of talent. And plainly he is getting minutes to reflect his progress and increasing effectiveness. It’s noticeable that he’s being brought on against European clubs more than against English opponents.

That's the rub though, right? As there's always a bit of shoving in the box. And I have to watch the replay to see if he was nudged before or after the Emerson header.

Anyways, I come in peace. And was simply saying that the OP is not intentionally trying to gaslight the SC community. As he's simply being objective. And according to the crappy rules, he's not wrong.

Horrendous first half. Much better second half.

Our wing backs are a real problem. Had the space of the Lane and didn’t drive into or use the space.

I’m a fully signed up member of the Bryan Gil club. He had the crowd off their feet most times he touched the ball. Has to start v Bournemouth.

Unfortunately with Gil it's the physicality thing again. Frankfurt away he was just bullied. Had two good home cameos against European opposition at least.

He has got something about him. I'd happily see him start against Bournemouth but they are a physical side and with the current leniency in the PL I think he'll get kicked out of the game.

The offside call has been debated, and whatever the merits or disadvantages of the system, it's done and we have to live with it.

I'm as gutted as anyone at what was such a close and marginal call, this time we fall on the wrong side of it.

Whilst we didn't play anything like an acceptable level in the first half, we dragged ourselves back into the game with fight and spirit and Conte and the coaching staff and the players need to collectively use that anger and frustration and channel it into getting over the line in Marseille. It won't be easy and it will take some picking up off the floor, but COYS ! Let's do this......

I think superb might be a bit strong (or our expectations are just that low at the moment....)

He played well, didn't look like he was getting pushed off the ball.

Able to take the ball past a player and still be in control at times

Some good balls into the box (just wrong foot for some of them)

It did seem to take 5mins before the other players would pass to him.

A few people have suggested that a time limit be placed on VAR: if they can’t come up with a decision within a minute, the referee’s decision should stand.

Although it’s a superficially attractive idea, the main result would be a rash of hasty and unjustifiable decisions after 59 seconds.

I agree, the answer is to do away with VAR.
That's not my opinion because of tonight by the way, it's always been my opinion.
