There's no creativity in the midfield for sure but Conte's system enables it from elsewhere, the issue here being that the "elsewhere" has mostly sucked so far. Of our five big offensive threats:
  • Kane & Son have both been woefully off-form;
  • Sessegnon is still hit and miss;
  • Perisic has been mostly good;
  • Emerson is where attacks go to die;
  • Kulusevski and Richarlison have been great but they've not started a game together
In other words, out of all of our attackers the only consistent performers have been Richarlison, Kulusevski and sometimes Perisic, so at best two of the five simultaneously. Once Emerson is replaced by Doherty or Spence and Kane & Son get into gear a lot of these problems will disappear.

I know the theory I don't like it very much its all based on counteracting I would prefer a side that can dominate the ball and is bright and clever in midfield but where not - and its alright saying Contes' system allows it from elsewhere but so far this season we have been pretty unconvincing
- Emerson who I see people have taking him as there scapegoat has been ok this season defensively ok and not that bad going forward the cross he put in yesterday deserved someone on the end of it he is not great by any means but Doherty bar a few decent games at the end of last season hardly inspires confidence and he is not going to play Spence so

We are what we are, a hard side to beat and rely on the top 3 for inspiration. I accept that and the manager is likeable and he has done well since he has been here but the tactics I am not entirely on board with but look yesterday if we had drawn it would have been a decent result one good goal that late you can't respond and you have to accept what we are as a football team, I don't like the way we play that much but its not going to change so we move on - its not down to individual players not performing for me its the set up that doesn't work in game like that

Well, for me it’s after several years of us playing poor football and winning fuck all, but if it makes you feel better to classify it as knee jerk, then fine…
OK, so the 2nd half of last season was terrible, in terms of football?

I must have been going to a stadium in another dimension.

Was that the dreaded 'zonal marking' for their first goal? Certainly looked like it with everybody pretty much rooted to the spot. Emerson and Kane making totally half arsed attempts to clear a ball into the near post while their player got a free run at it. Shite way to defend imo, especially when it looks like nobody knows what the fuck is going on and get in each other's way.

Our new set piece coach, Gianni Vio, favours zonal marking apparently. It's time to keep tabs as to how many more goals we score from set-pieces versus how many we concede since he joined. So far I think he has brought more attacking threat then defensive vulnerability, but I am really not a fan of zonal marking either

the midfield the lack of creativity is the real problem in the side - they were a bog average side with nothing up front and we can't dominate the ball against anyone we are just not set up to do that - kind of fed up with hearing we are dominating sides by camping out in our own penalty area and hitting sides on the break I have to say when you are playing against a side without a forward was there not a case for taking off a centre half and sticking another body in midfield to dominate the game

its how Conte plays but I find it frustrating the two in midfield are effectively stoppers - sides know Kane is going to drop off and try and find a ball in behind teams fill that space - we are a very functional side and bar the 3 up front in any combination there is so little creativity or imagination - it works to a degree and Conte wants to play like it and whenever we lose its going to be frustrating because the style of football is so mundane and when your winning who can argue and lets face it we are winning more often than we are losing but I thought in the summer we should have gone all out and found a midfield player who could come in off the wing and offer some cleverness and make a 3 in midfield when we need and help to dominate the ball - so far this season I think that is a problem but heh still unbeaten in the league so its maybe its not as much as I think it is or might become

It's all well and good, but let's be honest, apart from Chelsea, we haven't played any of the top teams yet. I'm just afraid we're going to get seriously 'found out' when we do. You can only 'win ugly' for so long. You can't just keep doing it.

It's not a case of what you prefer it's Conte saying Spence is for the future and Doherty not being fully fit hence why Emerson has played every game.

Right or wrong, I have a strong sense that Conte is saying Spence is going to be the next managers problem and not his, and frankly that absolutely sucks because it means we're going to have to put up with Emerson for a good while yet.

I think when we play the better sides in a perverse way we may look better as they will leave a little more room - our difficulties are playing poorer sides as we struggle with the ball - but generally I take your point

Yup and even Chelsea’s attack is pretty limp this season

This is where i feel Conte is not such a tough coach everyone believes him to be. If he would have any balls he would have draged both Kane and son of at minimum 60 min as they were way of it.

But we are still a Club that play our 2 best players no matter what or until they are injured. It just shows we are not a big club. I do not care how much Conte praise Son and Kane and how professional they are, EVERY human on this planet will drop some % if the get to comfortable, and when we finally have people to rotate we still do nothing. Just make an example that you are a tough coach and that NO ONE is safe if they do not give 100% or if their level drop way of.

But yesterday in Contes mind 0-0 is a good result. It is the way we have played every game this season,. 0-0 is always ok it seems, with the way we play and how little urgency we show through the game.
And said it before, although many fans love Conte, if he keeps playing this boring football, you will not survive many losses as the crowd will start to boo very fast.

No ambition. No urgency. We're playing like we're the team that is in the lead.
