Tbh I don't watch a lot of Swansea unless befiely on motd or when Spurs play them.... I personally feel Siggy would at best be a rotation (squad) player. I think we can do better for the money it'll take to get him.

Not at attack on you but who do you feel we can get that is.

* Familiar with the players on our team
* Familiar with the league
* Is a threat from set pieces and outside the box
* Is creative and versatile and can stand in for several of our players
* No ego/baggage
* Within our price range

Swansea playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson set for £25million Tottenham return as club look at Ross Barkley alternatives
  • Tottenham are considering a shock move to bring Gylfi Sigurdsson back to club
  • Icelandic playmaker was sold to Swansea in 2014, as Mauricio Pochettino arrived
  • Sigurdsson would now cost Tottenham around £25million if he were to return
  • Pochettino is considering alternatives to Everton's £50m-rated Ross Barkley
Tottenham are considering a shock move to re-sign Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea.

Sportsmail understands that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino believes that the former Tottenham playmaker could be a better and cheaper alternative to signing long-term target Ross Barkley from Everton.

Pochettino has been keen on Barkley for months and still rates him highly. But the Tottenham manager knows that Everton want up to £50million for the 23-year-old and is now considering a £25m move for a player he always believed should never have been sold in the first place.

Sigurdsson moved from White Hart Lane to Swansea in the summer of 2014. Pochettino had just arrived and was not involved in the decision.

Only last December he admitted the transfer had been a mistake and said that Sigurdsson would 'have been perfect for us'.

Any move for the 27-year-old would mirror Manchester United's current move to re-sign central defender Michael Keane from Burnley for £25m even though they let him go for £2m two years ago.

Ironically, the club who have expressed the firmest interest in the Icelander so far are Everton, who are preparing to lose Barkley after he failed to sign a new contract this month.

Pochettino believes Barkley, 23, needs work while Sigurdsson is the finished article. He also knows the club, having made 58 league appearances for Spurs between 2012 and 2014.

I was surprised to see the other day that Siggy has covered more ground than any player in the PL. He's very similar to Eriksen in that regard -- puts in a shift that most people don't notice, runs the show for Swansea and is absolute quality in the final third. The fact that we are so heavily linked with a player of this type (considering Barkley as well) makes me wonder whether the club might be planning for the contingency that Lamela is permacrocked.

Wanted us to sign this this guy so badly first time round. Has everything in his game except one vital ingredient..Pace. So as much as I still rate him the answer is firmly no. Why go backwards now? No more looking to the past as the great man says:)

I couldn't agree more. I'm sick of the old days. Players who did nothing for the club yet are talked about as if they were brilliant. Poch has brought freshness to the club. He gave all the chancers a year when he got here and they still didn't respond(Adebayor, Kaboul, Lennon). So too go forward we have to try new things not old tricks

We keep being linked to old players.. Defoe another example. definite no. Always got off-side, would give the ball away or shoot wide. Is it me or do other fans not remember stuff like this. He drove me mad. Is at his level where he is. So no more old tripe!!

People aren't being honest with their Siggy reservations. Instead of judging him by his current output, you're basing your opinion of him on his "failed" time with us previous.

If I were to take away Siggy's name from the equation and I say " We've been linked to a 27 year old AM who scored 9 goals and assisted 13 times in the league. Is a threat from set pieces and from long distance, no baggage. Wouldn't require crazy wages and would come in and fit in seamlessly with the other players" no one would have any reservations.

Also, people keep mentioning speed/pace and physicality as reasons Siggy would never fit in with us. Huh? Poch literally excels at helping his players reach peak physical conditioning but for some reason Siggy's weak Icelandic muscles won't be able to handle the stress of a Poch pre-season...STAAAHP IT!

A clear distinction needs to be made. People wanted Defoe for nostalgic reasons, I want Siggy back for sporting reasons. Put aside his "failed" time with us, I say to you we've been linked to a 27 year old AM who scored 9 goals and had 13 assists in the PL. Is a threat from set pieces and long distance shots, has no baggage and wouldn't require crazy wages. How do you react then?

Sure, but we won't have Alli for the 3 games in the CL. Lamela is struggling with his injury, not sure when he'll return from that. What if Eriksen/ Son get injured? We need depth but more importantly we need quality depth that can come in a do a job for us. Between the League, CL , Fa Cup and League cup, we have plenty of games to go around and keep the players happy. We are on the verge of the winning the league, we could use a player who can come in and win us a couple games with some free kicks and long distance shots.

I seem to remember he was mostly stuck out wide on the left which is clearly not his position and he contributed very little. His best position is as an attacking midfielder / playmaker. He could possibly be back up for either Dele or Eriksen and as someone else has said he is almost worth buying for his free kicks alone. Worth bringing in as a squad player . Not at 25 m though. 15 m max or 20m plus Sissoko ....

Hopefully, Lamela comes back stronger. But with Siggy we have added depth and a verified threat from set pieces. We really need to capitalize on set pieces and he can help us with that.

I don't deny he is a decent footballer but guys like him have 2 maybe 3 good seasons there whole career. Jamie Vardy as an example or probably the whole Leicester team last year. This is what distinguishes really good players to above average. Surely you have noticed this through the years. I watched him playing u21 for Iceland and thought he would become a great and couldn't believe we signed him. But I would see it as a backwards step to resign him now. Especially at his age where he is only gonna get slower. Not trying to Dismiss your opinion. I remember so many players having good seasons when they were his age and clubs rushed to sign them only to see half the player when he turned out for them. There are plenty of players who are younger to be found and given a chance. I think he had his chance and proved he is mid table at best
