:cry::cry::cry: I miss Sandro

The injury free Sandro "ruled" yes....but the "later" Sandro I don't miss simply because he couldn't maintain his standards due to , yes, injuries.
I think it's not just the player Sandro that Spurs miss but also the character he was in the dressing room.

Where is he now? Last I heard QPR had cocked up his work visa or something?

I thought at his best he was what Spurs have needed for years - steel, determination and commitment. That goal against Man U was pretty decent also.

I think he was a bit over-rated. He was good (sometimes very good) at breaking up play. That was about it. Whilst he was good at that, it probably wouldn't be hard for a club to find someone of that ilk as an alternative. You would also have to question his consistency and ability to stay fit. A value of £20m at any time is a bit of wishful thinking, in my opinion.

Really? We certainly seem to make it look pretty hard...

Not that he himself now would be doing us any favours at present, as he'd likely be injured or expelled from the country, but the attributes he brought way back when seem to have been severely underestimated in the originally quoted post.

We haven't been looking for a midfield 'destroyer' though. We seem to want someone who offers absolutely everything, good positioning and defensively strong, able to get around the pitch and also useful with the ball at his feet. Now a player like that with the all round package is incredibly tough to find at our level.

True, but it seems daft that because we want someopne with the whole package we've dispensed with anyone we had who possessed the defensive half of that package. Better to have someone who can only tackle than no-one who can tackle IMO.

Well that's what the manager wants it seems. It's also the problem with playing only two in central midfield, its a lot of work and you do need to be multi-skilled and it's sometimes an impossible job. I think even the fans start looking for more from players... I've made the point before that even when we had Modric and a prime Parker in midfield together much of the discussion was that one couldn't tackle and the other couldn't pass the ball.

He was rightly rated as one of the best in Europe before his injury and if that hadn't of happened he would be at a CL club now in my opinion

Yet we've settled for Eric Dier.

I know Sandros limitations and injury troubles, but like I many loved him and he was effective. I also have reservations over Masons ability to be a 1st choice CM in a 2 for us.

However I can't help thinking that a Sandro/Mason central midfield could have been really effective.

If he had stayed injury free I don't think he would still be a spurs player. Would've joined the group of big money sales we have made in the past few years.

I am still in love with Sandro an would take him in addition to an Illarra/ Wanyama/ xy midfield-signing just to provide defensive Cover and having a good atmosphere in the group ;)

Will never happen though :(

So unlucky with the injuries - before he got crocked he was the first name on the team-sheet for me. The guy was immense and he was a fantastic character also.

Well yeah, obviously he's not good enough to play for us anymore but that champions league season... dominant.

Or he would have made Spurs a CL club - with the help of King (also injury free), Modric, Bale and Berba ;)

He was an impassable wall before his injury:

He was my favorite player without a doubt. I still remember his first Liverpool game where he put in one hell of a shift and got on Shelveys nerves. He went over the wall with Shelvey and just got up like "that was fun".

He was the BEAST for a reason and if he was still healthy I honestly think he would have been the second one off to RM before Bale.
