I didn't want to create this thread yesterday as I thought it would have seemed like a knee jerk reaction.

Redknapp didn't seem to give any encouragement to the team yesterday. Now this is something I've seen previously and I think in the game Vs Bolton he hardly got off his seat. This could ofcourse be something to do with his heart condition and if so then fine but even the commentators yesterday mentioned it! Harry gives no touchline instructions to the team or claps a good pass or save. I'm trying to think back as to if he's always been like that but even so the importance of yesterdays game needed him to push the team and I didn't see it.
I'm not saying this because we lost as I mentioned this in the chat room even when we were wooping Bolton.
I know how some of you on here feel about Harry but please guys this is not a "let's bash Harry" thread it's a genuine observation

We salvaged a draw with 10 men. Not a complete disaster.

And to be honest, someone hollering on the sidelines ain't gonna make that much of a difference. Sounds like you are just looking for a target to blame tbh

No not looking for someone to blame. It's a genuine observation. I've seen Harry celebrate goals before and I mentioned nothing about hollering, actually it's encouragement. A clap for a good pass or save, just a thumbs up for something that's gone right or a gesture to a player asking them to concentrate.
This wasn't just about yesterday's game either

21 shots to 4.

What more do you want? He can't put the ball in the net by shouting.

I appreciate your frustration good man but I think the players should be blamed if anything.

21 shots but only 4 on target. Dont think we can blame the players, they were definitely putting the effort in and villa were getting behind the ball. What I would have liked to have seen is that after us going full throttle in attack five or six times without any joy because villa were simply camped back, we go a little more patient and by design. There is no doubt we have serious trouble against teams that park the bus but we always charge forward at 100 miles an hour and hope for magic.

If we had tried to draw villa onto us and then make some good off the ball runs we might have had some more joy.

we were down to 10 men, we scored 1-1 and dominated the game away from home, Harry was just worry about their wasting time tactics and claiming injuries so much, i saw Given keeping the ball in his hands more than 8 seconds in 1st half, goal kick taken for 30 seconds and then tried to waste as well in injury time, that's the only shout he needed.

remember, it was away from home, and Ten men !

Possibly.

My point was more that I don't think there was anyone particularly to blame.

It just felt to me as though this thread was started out of frustration at the weekends results.

At the end of the day though third is still on and we have a good shout at fourth. Gonna be so nervous!

Blimey Charlie - doesn't matter if we are winning or losing these days , Harry is still getting it in the neck. I know the England thing has contributed to a lot of it - but since Roy got the England job we have won 2 games for the first time in a couple of months, and one of those was at the Reebok where we have never won before in the premiership!!
I know a fair few of you want him out - but I don't. He has taken us to the CL before - why can't he do it again? Yes he get's it wrong sometimes, but all managers do! The players have to take some responsibility as well!

Some managers like Martin O'Neill and Owen Coyle bounce up and down on the touchline - these are tracksuit managers

Managers who wear a suit tend to be more reserved, some fans like the tracksuit managers as they show more passion, I don't.

When things are going wrong I have seen Harry loads of times get up and get his point across , sitting down isn't an issue for me

You tell that to Martin O'Neil.

Of course it can make a difference.

Interesting article on Redknapp this morning. Probably sums up some people's feelings.

But the substitutions aside its nonsense.
We're talking about sound bytes in front of a camera.

So if HR says "It wasn't good enough, I exepct more from my players." Then what? Does it change anything? Do we as fans benefit from that kind of approach? Once or twice maybe... but if you copy and paste that sentence across the season when results were poor then it just becomes another sound byte and we still criticise the manager because it's our opinion that the manager should stop passing the buck.

What matters is what HR says to the players behind the scenes.

No, for me our real issue this season has been learning to cope with teams who refuse to attack (ignoring the off field distractions) and that is something that Arsenal as well have struggled with mightily in the past.

Ball retention going forward has been an issue for me, but I put this down to wanting to try and move forward quickly when we suddenly have space to exploit. When we lose that space, then you see the likes of Modric and Bale passing and running in front of the penalty area going no where and only achieve to congest the middle. For me the ball should go out wide and be crossed in and attacked (something we have also been poor at this season too alas), this means Bale MUST stay on the left flank at least as much as he drifts in, nothing wrong with mixing it up, but for me he know comes inside too much. Draw players out of the middle and create that space for others to attack.

You might lose possession, but you will have chances and for me its better in those instances to create a chance and if the opposition win possession they are likely to move forward again and thus create more space. The trick is then to press and win the ball back quickly and try again.

If you let the opposition camp and they themselves have zero ambition, then what do you do?

Hell we did it to great effect vs Mourinho under Santini, resulting in the "park the bus" comment... so it shows just how frustrating it can be.

We had plenty of endeavour and shots, but we do have a goal conversion weakness that i would like to see addressed.

That's blatantly got to have been snaffled from SC or somesuch and cobbled together ;)

I'm not sure how much difference it makes wether he sits there or patrols his 'technical area' (Ironic name for it), gesticulating and shouting. I've seen him do both, for example, he did get rather excited at Chelsea last season didn't he? So I suppose he does do it when he feels he has to.

Like I said, i'm not sure how much difference it actually makes, it could make a slight difference, it could be just another stick to beat him with or it could just be that it would be reassuring to see the manager displaying a bit of passion for the club, or showing that he cares as much as we do if you'd prefer it put another way.

HR has never been one to get too excited and yes he does have a heart problem. His job is to make changes during the game based on a calm assessment of the game. Not running around like deadless chicken shouting at everyone!

True, but a much better point about yesterday's game though was that he did little in terms of changing our tactics, i.e. Pushing for the win yesterday. I assume (/hope) that's the passivity OP and others are referring to. At the end of the day it was a golden point: if Newcastle fail win at Everton we're 4th either way (I assume Liverpool get their revenge Tuesday) and as long as we beat Fulham at home Arsenal will have to beat West Brom away - which is a much harder task. Still advantage us IMO, but Arsenal should be able to mobilize enough to get past West Brom if they're worthy of third. But based on the above I can understand that he didn't want to risk things yesterday, and we did come away with a point after dominating with ten man after what I think was a harsh red card...
