Thank you bud, your words are greatly appreciated! I keep telling myself not to get to wrapped up in the manager hunt because I know ultimately as long as Levy is here it's probably all meaningless and disappointing but there's always that 1% chance that the stars align and Levy somehow falls onto Poch mk2. We are all Spurs fans after all, hope (and the constant destruction of that hope) is in our DNA. I'm just glad my posts make some sort of sense when in truth there is not much about Spurs at present that does.
Having feet grounded in reality rather than the universe that one's brain thinks exists or at least should exist keeps you sane thru this whole thing. My personal track record of predicting player and coach success that is helpful in those regards as being correct and eating humble pie in equal amounts aids proper mental digestion. (Kane, he looks like he may make the first team. Jose, Conte - I don't like their styles but we will at least something. Dembele is the key to what makes Spurs tick, etc, etc. Losing Luka is bigger than losing Bale, etc.) Cheers and keep posting please.

I don’t know if Ange will be successful or not. But I do know when he makes that first appearance in Tottenham gear and he starts saying things like “exciting football” and “get you horny while watching us make sweet love on the football pitch” and “Arteta is the whole toolshed” and “I am your daddy now, your daddy left you for a hooker up the road, I’ll love you forever” I’ll be sucked right in and fully on board.

Wake me up when we hire someone. It's the same things being said day in and day out. We get it. The Scottish league is ****. Ange is too old, Australian and hasn't gone anywhere or done anything of note.

Sigh.

Nobody is saying he should be the number one target, far from it and there is nothing wrong in discussing what good he (or indeed any other candidate) may bring to us when we are going down our shortlist.

We can have a coach that plays attractive football without conceding bucket loads of goals.

We can, but we need to buy them some very good defenders. What we have now is terrible. To think, a few years ago we had Walker, Rose, Toby and Jan.

I don't see Ange having anything other than a Nuno experience here.

A manager who knows that everybody else knows that he was not first, second, third, fourth or possibly even fifth choice on the list.

So he enters a club where the fans aren't happy and the players are sceptical. Because lets be honest - players have expectations too and keep up with the news. There would have been excitement when it was Tuchel being linked or a Nagelsmann appointment or a Poch comeback potentially in the works. A convincing argument about Arne Slot who is an underdog champion in his league worked for the fans on here when three months ago no one really knew that much about him. A willingness maybe to accept Luis Enrique because even though it was several years ago now he did win the treble with some of the greatest players of modern history.

To end up with a near 60 year old whose career peak so far has been managing Celtic in the last two seasons is underwhelming. He may be a phenomenal coach who has been untapped for too long in Europe and someone whose best is yet to come but it's the sort of appointment that won't appeal to the dressing room. These guys didn't accept Nuno who had a better resume than Ange. I'm sorry but that's just how it is. If we as fans feel this way then of course the guys who have to call him 'boss' will.

This is exactly what happened at Chelsea with Graham Potter. He failed not necessarily because he was a bad manager. Perhaps a bad fit for that club but in large part because the players did not accept him. The players did not want Tuchel sacked. To go from Tuchel who won them the Champions League to Potter whose most notable work in the public consciousness was a 9th place finish in the Premier League was a big drop off. In a dressing room full of big money players set him up to fail.

And I say the words "public consciousness" because arguably Potter's best work and example of how he succeeds is what he did in Sweden taking a club from the fourth division to the top flight and European football nights including a win away against Arsenal. That's a footballing fairy tale. Fans could point out it wasn't all plain sailing from the start and it took time for him to get going. And once he did they never looked back. But players at the top don't care. To them he was a mid table manager not fitting of being at that level.

The majority of teams they played in the ECL and EL were at a similar level to them. We're at a similar level to most Prem teams. So if you're conceding goals against teams at a similar level to you then that's a worry no?
I'm not sure if I agree on that. Especially since every other critic of Ange argue that Celtic is League One level. Also, comparing cups with leagues has never been a particularly good measurement of anything.

But yes, if his teams had proven to constantly concede more goals than they scored against opponents on their level, that would be a massive worry. Don't think that's the case though.

unless it's someone who can unite the fan base, play entertaining football and get rid of the crap in the squad, who realistically gives a shit?

slot looked to be that person but levy fucked it.
nagelsmann could be that person but levy's fucked that too.
i can't envisage anyone else who isn't doomed before they begin imo.

There's no use in me a-cryin'
I've done everything and now I'm sick of trying
I've thrown away my nights and wasted all my days over you
Well you go your way and I'll go mine
Now and forever 'till the end of time
I'll find somebody new and baby
We'll say we're through and you won't matter anymore
Thank you Buddy.

Everyone misses the fact that he led an Australian side with some very average players to win the Asian Championship.
He’s actually a very astute tactician and excellent man manager. he played each game with different tactics and players. One thing many others listed cannot show - he has a plan B, has overseas experience (both domestic and international)and is prepared to change things to suit when needed.

I'm going to bite - and I'll take the Aussie bias comment if it comes. But, to say we're being gaslight is so disrespectful to us and to Ange. Ange has earned everything he has been given in his coaching career so far. He has come up against groupthink like yours the entire time - yet every team he has coached has improved both on field and off it.

A coach is not the fountain of knowledge like some think. Nor do they have to be a big name. What they need to be is authentic and genuine, with an ability to lead and inspire. All of which Ange has in spades.

I'm a premier league hockey coach in Western Australia, currently coaching olympic athletes and State players. I've never played the game at that level. However, I can inspire, teach and get people to learn. This is what makes successful coaches. This is what Ange has.

I can guarantee nothing because sport is not linear. However, I can guarantee groupthink and prejudice like yours is on its way out of sport - good riddance.
Well said applause 👏

I work in Scottish football on a weekly basis during the season. I’m at Celtic semi regular and up close and personal with Ange.
He seems fine but tbh got no interest in him being our manager.

I’ve dipped in and out of this thread very infrequently last few months tbh but have seen some comments. Being able to mine for Asian talent has no relevance to us. Yes in the Scottish league it might be a way of finding technically superior players for cheap prices, but will not work at the levels we swim in. He seems nice enough, but I’d hardly call him an inspiring type of character .. he’s pretty gruff, monotone and very quietly spoken, this coming from someone that has been at close quarters with him and had to adjust things as he’s a mumbler.

Lastly, I’m not convinced he would even want to come

Not for us, sorry.

I would hope our DoF model will mean he doesnt have to focus on recruitment and can focus on the coaching

A quote from a Dan Kilpatrick article earlier this month:

"But Levy is looking for a new coach in the mould of Pochettino in 2014 - young, hungry, up-and-coming - and sources close to the chairman say the 2023 version (of Poch) does not fit the profile. He is nearly a decade older now"

This as we're probably looking at hiring someone who would now be the second oldest manager in the Prem.

The last coaches hired straight from the Scottish league to England have joined clubs like Aston Villa 2x & Middlesborough 2x.

I hope to be proven wrong but I don't see any way this ends in anything other than disaster.

Not sure I am as excited about Ange. I really want a Project Manager. I just feel that at 57, he will be a yes man and just try and get the parts to work ala Conte and Mourinho.

The squad needs ripping apart, philosophy instilled and someone to influence their ideas across all area of the club. Slot I was on board with but I am not that keen on actually any of the candidates including Ange.

Rodgers is a ****.

Enrique only experience is at one of the best clubs in the world with great players.

Ange plays the right football but lacks testing in a real league and his age worries me.

Potter would be a project manager, I think patience would be required - he has a style at least but lacks a bit of personality.

Nagelsmann is the one for me and I don't understand why we are not going in hard for him. We have a chance of getting someone in with great ideas, a philosophy and a reputation. For me he is the only one that will satisfy Kane when he thinks about his future
