Watching the Sampdoria Verona game, and Sampdoria’s LCB looks decent - Argentine, 21yo, left footed, quite comfortable on the ball. A quick google tells me he was thought a few years ago to be the Argentine LCB future alongside Cutí but has not progressed as quickly as hoped. But still very young.

ps. Winks is doing Winks things. No impact defensively, chasing shadows and losing concentration at key moments. Players ghost by him. He’s tidy-ish when he has the ball but not really making enough effort to get on it. It took him 15 mins into the second half for him to get his first touch of the half. He strung a few neat balls around but then gave away the ball cheaply for Verona to score a then-disallowed goal. This looks to be his level.

Yeah, I feel like some promoted team will take a chance on him and he'll be out of their lineup by the second half of the season.

He's pretty much been their best player since he's come back from Injury. If they go down which is likely, I'd be surprised if one of the better teams in Italy don't come in for him. The pace in Italy suits his style of play.

He started the last two finals we played - let that sink in.

I love his nickname - "the washing machine". Very neatly captures his game.

Still not as good as "the wardrobe" though.

Do you think maybe with a new more progressive coach,Winks might make a comeback for us?

Vid is 3 years old but this dude, who I rate as an amateur analyst, eulogies about him

Fair enough guys. I don't disagree with any of your posts, and I'm no Winks lover, but I just thought with a more progressive manager there could be a redemption arc. Obviously the concensus say's no.

As a 6, he’s not good enough defensively nor can he play the ball forward through a press consistently. He would act as a recycler, similar to Skipp but Skipp but gets more challenges in. He’s not athletic enough to play as an 8. He gets ghosted by and is chasing shadows in each game I watch for Sampdoria.

Tidy on the ball, yes, but that’s simply not enough to play for a team that has CL and trophy ambitions.

Looking forward to him leading us out in the Championship at the start of the 24/25 season.
