Is it all that uncommon for clubs of loaned out players to not reach out to them routinely when they are a.) older and b.) obviously not part of the current managers plans?

“How are things going?”

“I hate it here can I come home?”

“No.”

He does like a sly dig at the club who has done everything for his career and given him multiple chances to compete at the highest level.

If he really wanted contact with Conte maybe he could have send him a message after his gall bladder operation?

Tbf thats more than likely a loaded question from a journo than Winks going to the media or just bringing it up. Sounds like shit stirring to me.

I’d say this about sums it up:

“The club face a battle to avoid relegation in Serie A – they’re currently rock bottom, 12 points adrift of safety – but the 10-cap England international is revelling in the experience.”

Little bit of both going on.

From the original article, upon which this was based:

Have you heard from Conte in recent months? “No one from Tottenham contacted me, not even the coach. I was and remain totally focused on Samp."

Because he's our player, and we should keep in contact with our players. 🤷‍♂️
Tbh it just sends the message loud and clear he needs to knuckle down and make his loan a success so he can get a move.

If we're calling him every week, he'd be like well at least good old Tottenham will have me back and pay my contract.

Doing things right in my book... No room for him in the squad.

I totally understand where you’re coming from on this but if he’s had no contact from the club given his injuries would that be the same for everyone we’ve got out on loan, including our younger players like Parrot etc?
If that is the case then we’re really not looking after our players.

I think that loan players would definitely be treated differently, i.e. young prospects probably gets more club interaction then a player who has one year left in the summer and will leave almost certainly.

He’s been playing regular football for two months after being out for months with injury and he’s already had two interviews with negative comments about Spurs, the first one he was saying that he was undervalued at Spurs.

It’s possible for a player to heap praise on a loaner club without digging out your owner club.

It’s just such a stark contrast to Mason’s recent podcast interview both for the things they say about the club and for the mentality as individuals.

There's still responsibilities as an employer and he's still one of our assets - you'd think we have interest in him doing as well as possible to perhaps get a return.
Arsenal have a Loan Manager, maybe something to look into. Could say Tim Sherwood did the same years ago when we had a lot of success with our loans.
Maybe a people person with connections around the leagues like Michael Dawson could be interested, already tied to us as ambassador.

I think people are letting their opinion of Winks override common sense. Spurs have a duty of care towards all their players and should be in regular contact.
It’s not really difficult to pick up the phone or arrange a Teams call.

It would speak well of the culture of the club if we did reach out to our loan players. Seems petty otherwise.

Our medical team will have been in constant touch considering he's been injured for most of it. There is now way on earth they wouldn't have been, considering he's still a club asset on the pay role.

A lot of clubs have 'on-loan managers' for players now.

But that is mostly for the younger players that they are trying to prepare for first team or as an young asset they need to gain exposure to sell.

Winks is an established player who is no longer wanted by the club, so there is less need to stay in regular contact with him other than "hows it going?"
