Whilst it's easy to mock Twizzle for the thread, there are some questions that need answering, so I'll try and answer them as best as possible.

Now that I've seen him play for Spurs, I have to ask why did we sign this guy, especially on a loan.

Is he an investment in our future ?

Possibly an investment for the future, the joy of a loan with an option to buy is to test the water. The lad has potential, thats for sure, will he fulfil the potential, difficult to say. Games such as last night are a good test, hostile area, a cup game against a decent team, certainly for a 2nd string team. This kid might get a chance and shine, it's way to early to tell if he will be a future investment or even a 1st team player.

Does he add anything to our squad ?

It's simply too early to tell, one thing he does add to the squad is that he has potential, and does help for games such as last night, where we can afford to play a 2nd string team. He didn't do too badly considering the player he was surrounded by. Much like Gio, he hasn't really had a chance alongside our first 11 yet, (using Cleverly as an example - played well on loan last season, but didn't light up the team at Wigan, this year, surrounded by much better players, he looks like a much better player).

He looked like an average player in our second XI team who had an average game against a team equal to a league 1 or 2 team.

Why exactly did we sign this guy on a loan, he adds nothing to our squad imo.

Answers above really, it's more about potential, be silly to not try someone out on loan, with the option to buy, for all we know this kid could go on to be somethign special, equally, he could go on to be rubbish.

All you have to do is look at Gareth Bale, the kid couldn't get a chance, never won a game, had a burdon on his shoulders (what was it 20 games without a win?), now look at him....

Hope that makes sense.

I thought he actually played ok and had the best of our chances and if you have bothered to follow him since we brought him in the you would know he has been doing pretty well with the youngsters.

I think he was brought in as a lennon replacement for the Europa league to give aaron a break.

Get off his back, you have seen him play one game.

Most of those players from last night would lokk completely different if placed in the 1st team. I reckon they would pretty much all play better ( not sure about Pav) surrounded by better players.

Hard to judge a left footer asked to play wide right......hence he kept coming inside......imo opinion there were a couple of more experienced players he rated in front of.....!

That's actually his favoured position apparently (although more in a 4-5-1/4-3-3 than a 4-4-2).

Most wide players prefer playing on their wrong side these days - including our last 3 LMs before Bale (Krancjar, Modric and Malbraque - all right footers who far prefer playing on the left).

Having wingers who go on the outside (and away from play) like Bale and Lennon do is increasingly rare.

I wouldn't call it mocking, they just didn't have any answers other than saying lets wait and watch him play more games before we judge him.

They can say what they like I dont give a rats arse.

I asked the question why did we sign him, from what I've seen this morning (our time in Oz) I didn't see anything that would suggest to me he will be a player, just wondering if anyone else saw anything.

Judging by the answers, they didn't either.

We got Gio from Barca after he scored 3 goals in one game, this guy came from Juve's second XI.

Someone has obviously seen something in this guy otherwise we wouldn't have got him.

Makes you think: How poor are they that have not patience?

This thread is monstrous, however it was his dream, I suppose. But this denoted a foregone conclusion. And this may help to thicken other proofs that do demonstrate thinly that we'd have been better off putting money in Juve's purse. The pity of it.

Plus, more aptly, The Point of this signing is to cover for the fact that we do actually need wide players in the cups in order to save Bale, Lennon and Kranjcar who will risk serious injury if they play in these matches.

of course we need cover for those players, thats a no brainer

but what has any of what you said got to do with the OP ?

Talented guy, zero pace. It's a problem at the very top.

how many slow attackers are there in the top four?

This thread is making me LOL.

Some kid, in his first game in a complete 2nd string team, playing in some hostile country.

Give me a fucking break.

Agreed.

I though he played well to be honest given the circumstances. I think he will turn out to be a very good player indeed and will definitely provide competition for Lennon.

Dan, I don't think it is that straightforward....you do get right footers going left but not as many left footers going right side. Only 15% - 20% of players are naturally left sided.....so lefties generally play there. Right siders get more of a look in because of the shortage of lefties:) I am involved with grading for a couple of hundred 16-18 year old players every year for state sides and this is what I tend to see. Players putting their hand up to go left always have an advantage in being picked in representative sides for this reason. I don't claim to know much about Falque but was just passing comment on what I saw him doing last night. If he can play both sides he will get EL time this year I would imagine.

You have answered your question there.

No-one here can provide those answers properly, as only those within the club know.

I think the point about his pace may be a good one, but dont forget, players shift positions all through their career. Campbell started his career as a forward, hudd started as a CB, and im sure there are more. Being a winger with no pace is a pretty big problem admittedly, but theres no reason why we couldnt shift him somewhere else IF he shows that he has other decent traits. No need to write him off as a bad player just because he currently doesnt have the best attributes to be a great winger.

Looks to me like most of the posters on here are younger than the players they are rating
The comments on our young p[layers last night is ridiculous and I can only hope none of them come on here as they would leave with their confidence in tatters

They played last night under some duress

1. 30 degrees at lick off
2. Terrible Pitch
3. Terrible Ref
4. Continual niggly fouling from PAOK
5. 27500 Mad Greeks - hugely intimidating
6. First tase of a European night like that for many

Players that shine from 16 ala Rooney are few and far between and most need cultivating

Call youselves (some)supporters - I for one although not blown away with the football sat watching with great pride. They more than held there own fitst half and had the chanes gone in I suspect the second would have been different. In no way were they embarrassed and notched up 1st point in this years campaign

Rant over

I was pretty happy with our performance overall, first time I've had a good look at Townsend and I thought he was most impressive.

Fist time I've had a good look at Kane as well, very impressed with his work rate. Bobs up at both ends of the pitch, sort of made Pav look pretty lazy.

FFS This was the guys first ever game at this level. His previous experience was playing for Villarreal Reserves in front of 10 men and a dog. Yes I know that Villarreal Reserves play in the Spanish League but they only just avoided relegation from the Segunda (probably equivalent to League 1) last season.

He may not make it but give it a few games before you make such ludicrous posts.

So the same division as Barcelona B then. So Championship level.....

Basically what your saying is, he was playing at a muich better level than the greek league last season.

I think that 17th in Segunda (playing at a home stadium with a capacity of 5000) is pretty much on a par with League 1. Despite being a regular starter for Villarreal B last season, they opted not to take up their option to buy him.

I thought that his signing was odd but I wouldn't write him off after a single performance.
