Too early too call and its ridiculous that we are even entertaining threads that become an instrument for negative fans to vent their spleen so early in the piece. FFS lets give these players and AVB time to gel.

It took Giroud a season to get integrated. He is now looking 100% a different player to the one last term.

Our players need time and not have people on their backs so quickly.

whats his best position?

Doesnt he play more central for Belgium, or does he play as a winger for them?
There is talent there, just trying to figure out where he fits into the team

Pffft, this is nothing. AVB got 2 whole games before someone suggested effing him off last yr.

This fan base is clearly growing soft and happy to accept mediocrity.

I think too many people assumed we bought him as a first teamer rather than a cover player. I never expected him to be great because having seen him for Twente he looked a decent cover option with potential to improve rather than a player who was going to just step into the first team mix

I don't think he'll become a regular first teamer, although I'll be more than happy if he proves me wrong, but I don't have unrealistically high expectations of a player who looked decent enough in the Eredivisie without ever looking any kind of exceptional talent. One thing did surprise me though is why we signed him rather that Dusan Tadic, if our scouts were watching Chadli I'm surprised they didn't turn their attention to him as for me he always looked the pick of their team

Plays as a winger but also slots in at attacking midfield from time to time, apparently he's an excellent header of the ball.

I think with Chadli, like Soldado it's just a case of settling in to the premiership that's the issue. They're obviously doing the business in training, otherwise AVB wouldn't pick them

This is happening even more than usual;
Eriksen plays one good game and he's a world beater;
After Chelsea doubts start to creep in.
Half the team aren't good enough. Dawson, Walker, Rose,Chadli, Soldado,
add you own favourite failure.
Chiriches is worse than Dawson after one game.
Lennon won't ever get back in the team
yet we are 2nd after our best start in 50 odd years.
Siggy our Premiership top scorer is not up to scratch.
Lloris only has to drop a corner and he'll be out next.
Madness I tell you. What are some of you on?.
I definitely don't want what your having.
Oh and we should have bought Ozil instead of the magnificent seven.

Didn't realise you had to be a professional footballer to have any knowledge about the game. Someone better tell AVB and Mourinho.

You don't, but if you havent played football and want to exert an opinion as fact (as give the assumption you are right) then providing some evidence is the only way to really qualify your opinion. It's far too easy to give it the gift of the gab without actually backing up what you're saying. If I were to criticise AVB then it would have a certain amount of qualifying attached to the statement, however you simply don't see that with many responses (for example in the match thread) because many people are too fixated with flexing their wannabe manager muscles or are only interested in their own view.

Anyone that has read the matchday thread (unless you are one of those people), knows exactly what I am talking about.

Chadli scored home and away against us in the Champions League and I wonder if that raised our interest in him to be a potential option.

Not sure I understand the sentiments of some posts on this thread, I must say I haven't sen any real hate of Chadli, maybe I've missed those posts, but there seems to be a sense that people shouldn't have an opinion on him which doesn't make sense,
Is it valid to say I haven't yet seen Chadli show me anything that makes me think he could turn out to be a great player? yes, surely it is, is it therefor valid to deduce that means he's never will? no its not but neither is it valid to say he's a great player on very little evidence, it is fair to say the jury is out but that shouldn't prevent debate.
I saw something in Lamella in his first 30 minutes, he clearly is comfortable on the ball, I didn't see that with Chadli, however he is a big strong lad and his goal against Tromso beat the goalkeeper almost the instant it left his boot it was so quick and I'm of the mind that he needs to be comfortable in what and where he should be doing to see the best from him, time will tell.
Also like to say I don't think he was bought as cover, AVB doesn't do cover he has a squad and expects the same level from all of them, obviously some will show more than others but I just don't see him buying second best as a policy.

I think it's a combination of playing it down, judging too vociferously, defendants being too 'on guard' and an element of this existing as a real problem. Also because this occurs on the internet people are also less willing to show restraint and will provide us with opnions that are just over the top or abusive (whether this is intentional or not).

It's certainly worth tempering such opinions, without silencing them. I think it's most reassuring when the majority come into such debates and provide the balanced reasoned view which confirms we're not all insane.

I think it's to do with the role he's been asked to fulfill. For Belgium against Scotland he was excellent.

Agree with this, I like him actually even though he hasn't done much in our shirt yet. I like his attributes and think he looks capable of getting a lot of goals due to his size and strength.

But every time he plays he kinda seems like a very poor man's Gareth Bale circa 2009/10 season. In that he has hugging the left hand touchline, when he doesn't seem to have the skill or the pace to do anything great out there.

I'd like to see him tuck right in from the left supporting soldado. Kinda like how Neymar lines up for barca or Hulk for Porto and Brazil. Leave the width to Danny Rose. look forward to seeing more of him

At the moment, not really impress with Chadli... a couple of good crosses, a couple of times he got into good positions to get a goal. Scored a goal which was... seriously a goalkeeping mistake.

but i think its still early days, when u play on the wings, u tend to need to understand the players u play with, and that takes time. Still think he has bags of potential.

This is the whole issue imo. I like both our FBs but worry that neither are of the required quality to really make AVB's system tick. Right now at least. The FBs provide the width and not just in the running along the touchline every now and then sense. We need good balls played in from them to keep the oppo defence honest out wide. It's a real concern but Walker and Rose need to spend every available second on the training pitch learning how to cross accurately, be it to a man or into an "area".

I say that as a fan of both so I don't mean it as an attack but especially if we play a middle 3 of Sandro/Kapow, Moose and Pauli - that middle is designed to give us possession and control of the game. It's not going to create chance after chance for the front men. That's not it's job. Even if you go with Eriksen playing the creative role in front of 2 CMs, you need more of a threat from the FBs out wide or we'll look a little light.
