From which we learn that "formations" are really not very important. Every match, we get pages and pages of garbage, ahead of the match, going on and on about the formation. Nominally "defensive" players are not defensive if they are briefed to play in an attacking role, which we all know good, fast fullbacks can do.

This was never set up as a defensive five-at-the-back strategy. The intention, right from the kick off, was to pin the Sheffield wide players back, so they couldn't get any sustained attacking momentum going. It worked well until we were 2-0 up, at which point some of our mentality issues showed for about 20 minutes.

The formation and, more importantly, the instructions given to the players enabled us to play a vigorous, skilful attacking game whenever we had the ball, which was often for about two thirds of the match.

Judging managerial intent based on formations, in modern football, is bollocks. Players move. They play fluid, changing, multi-functional roles, under orders to alter their roles depending on whether or not we have the ball.

But the next time Mourinho selects three defenders and two wing-backs, we'll have the same chorus of wailing and moaning about "defensive formations" all over again.
I 'Winner'ered this so hard, I think I broke my mouse. Bravo!

Seems a fairly reasonable pof what would you of liked him to post?
Acknowledge that it was anything but a lacklustre game? I don't know, call me crazy, but maybe celebrate the win? Express some pleasure that the club he supposedly supports won today and got three points? I know it's mad, but maybe some positivity?

You're right. I'm being silly.

A lot of talk that we “should” have been scoring 5+ goals for it to be considered an adequate performance.

This is only the 4th time they’ve conceded more than 2 goals this season, and only one team has put 4 past them, which was Chelsea.

It’s also the first time they’ve conceded 3 at home in the Premier League.

Sheffield United are bottom of the league because they’ve only scored 10 goals - not because they leak them like it’s going out of fashion.

Idiotic amateur punditry from people who are just desperate for a stick to beat us with. It was a solid display today, and a comfortable win in a game we should be comfortably winning. A perfectly decent day’s work.

What about 1977, in the second division, I think it was the game before Millwall away.

I started work on the buses in the summer of 1976 just after getting married so I didn't get to many matches in the old Div 2 years due to shift work, by end of the 78 season I was working for my old man and hardly missed any game from 78 to the early nineties.

maybe lacklustre was slightly harsh but not exactly outrageous. The other points were good. This desire for over the top praise for Mourhino when previous games it was on the players just screams of massive insecurity and a bit hypercritical. I’m sure the guys happy we won and I think it’s fine pointing out things after we won, shows he’s not just influenced by the result if he said it after a loss I’m sure he’d be getting it from a few as well.

Perhaps. However, when you know that the individual in question was the first to comment and wholeheartedly agree with the OP of 'The price is too high' thread, the analysis starts to take on a different hue....

Really good win today but starting to get really frustrated with Dier always caught in no mans land. How many headers have we conceded lately because his positioning is all wrong. Rodon looks a fantastic prospect though.
I still think we allow too many crosses and corners into our box and our defence is bound to miss a few. We played the bottom club who still only have five points and I bet they had more opportunities today than they've had in any game this season.

I'm sure plenty will focus on the two-minute spell that resulted in conceding a goal...while overlooking that we had been pushing for a third goal and should have been awarded a penalty moments before.
@Joshua shepherd Well done for disagreeing with a comment after it has proven to be true. Someone criticised the performance less than a minute after my post and more followed.

Does PEH just not wear clothes? Looks like NDombele is showered and changed and they are now in the players lounge. It would fit right in with him being a bit of a savage and all, but can see some issues when families are attending again.
