They look a better side than Liverpool at the moment
Optimism raging on the forum at the moment!! We have beat them once at their place in the last 30 years and everyone's acting like the seasons finished.

Just like Chelsea and Liverpool away, I'm surprised anybody gets wound up at getting nothing from this game.

Well, someone posted he wanted to see crunching tackles! Satisfied with that?
Royal?? That wasn’t a crunching tackle. Personally I wouldn’t mind a red for one of those.

It was a cowardly, stupid rake. Not a guaranteed red but he was dumb for even making the ‘challenge’. Martinelli was going backwards and we had them penned in. Ridiculously stupid and he should be out the team for the foreseeable as he can’t be trusted.

That’s fuck all to do with ability, it’s intelligence. Or rather lack of it.

This felt a bit like Palace away after international break. We really do struggle with these games and this fixture. It was always likely to be a horrible one. Big response needed.

I don't think we have the talent defensively to do this game plan and go for a clean sheet away from home vs a good team. All the big results we've got away from home, City, Liverpool, Chelsea it's our attack that has got us out of the shit.

We are not clean defensively around the box and make mistakes mentally.

I'm so indifferent to this defeat... I guess it's a result of how we play. The game was calling out for a 3-5-2 formation and Conte just doesn't see it.

Arsenal deserved that victory unfortunately. The better team won.

It’s not pissy, it was entirely preventable.

Your examples of playing other teams and in other seasons is not as clever as you think it is. You play the team ahead of you, with the right approach for that game. If you stick to the same tactics in all games, well… I dunno what you’re being paid for tbh
We played the correct formation and tactics for this game. Thats my opinion and you disagree. There's no convincing you it seems.
Conte see's that against teams with obvious attacking quality that the best way to get a result is to play counter attacking football against them. It worked fine against the aforementioned teams.
This formation clearly and obviously works despite you stamping your feet about it.
It wont work 100% of the time due to factors like the brain-farts you saw today but there isn't a tactic on the planet that WILL work 100% of the time.
People were just waiting for the first loss to pile on Conte and you are no different.

I’d like to see a run of matches where we deploy the 3-5-2. Especially if Kulu is out. Rotate the attacking 3 accordingly, and we’ve got some decentish depth in midfield. Maybe not the best creativity but it’d help a lot with the control of matches and exerting some of our physicality on opponents.

We played the same way every game, with every opposition. Need to work on different systems, different formations. The 5-3-2 in the last 20 minutes against Leicester worked really well. Very surprised Conte didn't go with it, especially as Kulu was injured.

I would have liked to have seen 3-5-2 but the system isn't the reason we lost.

It's just poor defending around our box, Lloris not being clean enough in his work. Dropping too deep at times, allowing people in the channel easily, Son allowing people to cut in. Royal looking shaky.

We should have won that game : halftime I was super confident as the game played out exactly as expected . Was expecting us to get a couple with breaks second half. What makes it so frustrating is that we self inflicted that result. Stupid error by lloris and Romero failed to clear. Then Royals red just about summed it up

We are playing a particular system that involves wing backs, but we don't really have wing backs who excel in that system - at least when it comes to the attacking third. A lot of people on SC (myself included) have been concerned by our performances, others have said the points tally is what matters, but when you see your team performing poorly / indifferently too often that should tell you that something is not right.

If you don't have the players to excel in the system you either change the players, which you can only do twice a year, or change the system (at least until you have the players you need to excel in your chosen system).
I agree, if you are playing with wingbacks you'd hope that when your wingback gets the ball out wide on the halfway line with the rest of the pitch to run into, he'd run into it. You'd also like to see him be successful at getting a cross beyond his defender.
All I'm saying is that's what I thought wing back meant.

Ditto, yet you somehow think you have the high ground. I didn’t ask you to explain your reasoning as I don’t care. But keep fighting it, big fella

It works until it doesn’t - not just today but every game he has to change his plans to actually go and win it. This idea we just stay at 343 and win constantly is comical. And by your own admission it’s bowing to teams with attacking quality. Knock yourself out if you think that’s a fun starting position: everyone else is basically better at attacking than us

I hope they do extra training, pathetic performance
Or maybe gives the players an extra day off and force Conte to do some homework. Because this is as much if not even more a problem from his side. He need to change something, because atm he's too rigid and predictable. Many others can see the flaws.

We looked excellent against Leicester because they left gaps in behind and the change in system threw them off.

If we'd have started with a 3-5-2 today it wouldn't have been the same and we WERE getting into good spaces and Arsenal were creating very little.

Imagine for a minute Lloris does not make that mistake. Were you concerned? Because I was growing in confidence and it felt like one of those games where we were going to catch them out.

They were not on top as people think. Possession, yes but we were finding the spaces in between the defensive lines well and looked threatening.

Lloris, and then Emerson, completely nulified any chance we had
Ill also add that had Conte gone with a 3-5-2, Richarlison would not have started and it was his runs that were causing Arsenal problems.

With the 3-5-2, Arsenal would only have had to worry about Kane dropping deep and Sons runs off that.

We may have had more bodies in midfield but whenever we broke Arsenal's press, we had 3 immediately up top with the WBs breaking, we had a few 5v5s going.

We just wasted some of them but we would have struggled to do that with 3 in midfield.

Also worth noting, when Conte plays 3 in midfield, one of those has to be a late runner with quality in the final third. None of ours fit the bill
