Was Perisic playing today?

He's been the biggest disappointment of our new signings for me. He's puts in 2 or 3 dangerous crosses a game but as of yet I've not seen him do much else. I thought he'd be popping up in dangerous positions, scoring goals, but not really seen much of that. His ball retention doesn't look great and defensively he looks suspect. Not sure if he's just suffering because we are playing poorly but I was expecting more.

Optimism raging on the forum at the moment!! We have beat them once at their place in the last 30 years and everyone's acting like the seasons finished.

Just like Chelsea and Liverpool away, I'm surprised anybody gets wound up at getting nothing from this game.
Ladies and gents our season will not be defined on whether we beat Arsenal( i know bragging rights but does that really mean anything) not really in the grand scheme of things. We are still third, we are not going through the season unbeaten. So lets see how we respond. The one thing that worries me which was glarring today is the inability of Conte not changing tge in play system when we were clearly being overrun. He seems to only play one system and a manager of his caliber that is not good. He should of played three in the middle today i think you will all agree. Lloris needs to be dropped along with Emerson tgey clearly are not good enough, continues mistake after mistake costing us big time putting the rest of the team under pressure so we are chasing games. They were not that good to be honest we made them look good. But its done now champios league tuesday a must not loose game. And Conte if you want sone in play game management systems give me a shout!!???

Early days in the season still a long way to go, swings and roundabouts and all that so I'm genuinely not going to lose my shit over this game.

"We've only won twice in 32 years away to them so it's not a big deal"....such a loser mentality and exactly what needs to change with this club.

Well how many times does Pep change system when his team is being outrun?

Quite often City come up against a team who continuously catch them on the counter.

Pep doesn't change system. He may make a couple of tweaks but most of the time he just gets his team to raise intensity

At least we will now have a proper attacking right wing back. Be it Doherty or Spence.
Don’t think Spence will get in but he does look a very decent wing back. Can pass and cross. Very quick and strong.
Emerson just isn’t good enough.

Yeah if we have any ambitions of winning the league we cannot accept losing these games. If this was Man City playing Arsenal today they don't make such stupid errors and are expecting to win.

This team/club just makes the stupidest of errors in every big game. They cannot be coddled and allowed to continue. City away last year was Lloris fumbling one and Romero conceding a penalty. Our attackers got us out of the shit and that can't continue.

Conte is a man to change this but Spurs will always find a way to fuck themselves if you leave these defenders and GK around their box for too long.

I’ll be honest, when I saw the lineup, I wasn’t confident. We lose so many midfield battles, I really hoped Conte would go with a three in there. I didn’t comment cos of the ‘oh your negative’, but I feel this one is on Conte. Missed opportunity. I also commented before Leicester that a team soon would punish us for the way we play.

Standard Emirates performance…

Started poorly but finished the first half the far better team. Second half, Lloris howler and red card. The moments went against us today, so don’t need to panic.

On Emerson, probably a red but have seen far worse tackles not given red.

Conte was very slow to react in making the changes. Don’t understand what he was waiting for.

Thought Bentancur played well. Hojbjerg’s worst game for a while.

Can Doherty play the full 90mins in the next 3 games? He hasn't played much, so 3 games so close might be too much for him.
I am hoping Spence can get some game time off the bench

Again - Bissouma not being on the pitch isn't the reason Hugo gave them a goal and Emerson got sent off.

The problem with demanding a formation change is that up until those two moments we were in a really good position in the game. As much as I prefer 3 in midfield this game isn't proof its better for us. In fact the opposite

I don't think we were ever in a really good position in the game. We finished the first half pretty well, but the second half started just as for most of the first. Giving up midfield and sitting off against good teams, Hugo cocking up or not, it's still usually only a matter of time.
I'd argue goons first goal came from just that.

Don't agree.

At HT i thought we looked the much more dangerous team.

What we lacked was composure with that final ball ..we had numerous opportunities to cut the open.

But it was there
I said we were better for 20 mins after the first 30 and started to take control but suffered from poor passing which ultimately stopped us from actually taking advantage in that time. We looked the better team in that period but we were still far from great as we let some really straightforward chances go from incredibly poor final balls. Even Conte pointed this out in his post match. On the whole woeful passing plagued our entire game.

For me, although we started to create opportunities and began to expose Arsenal’s defensive frailties the above points stops me from being too complimentary. It was certainly very encouraging and we could have pushed on in the second half and won but we went back to square.

Overall, save those 20 or so mins Arsenal were better, certainly for the entirety of the second half and the first 30 of the first.

Maybe I'm seeing everything through lilywhite lenses, but regardless of the circumstances I'd be surprised to see a ref send someone off for that. Even if it was against us.

It's a nasty challenge, definitely a strong yellow, but he's not dived in, there wasn't excessive force and it could've easily been a misjudgement (Emerson is pretty clumsy). Compared to most reds where players are literally diving in 2 feet off the ground, it's nowhere near as bad. It must've been painful as fuck to be on the receiving end of it - studs on your heel will always hurt - but does that mean instant red?

Perhaps according to the letter of the law it's a red, but I feel like 9/10 you see that challenge in a PL game it's a yellow and a strong warning.
I have seen a lot of players do this type of challenge where they “accidentally” step on the back of another players Achilles and get away with it. I think that was what Emerson was trying to do. He got it wrong and rightly got a red. These are the challenges that should receive reds.

I know what you said.

I think the game was there for us until the stupid errors Conte can't legislate for.

Clockwork …

- 1-0 down through a screamer at the emirates
- Equalise with a Kane penalty
- Annual Hugo Emirates cock up
- Stupid red card
- capitulate

Then we win at home !

They were much slicker and better on the ball than us , we haven’t evolved at all since poch left at all, the footballs got worse . Arsenal are so slick on the ball

I think it is more likely that Perisic will cover for Doherty on the right.

Really feeling the negative vibes in here. Hopefully the team and manager aren't giving these lot as much respect and fearing them as many on here are. They are still weak minded, they are still managed by someone who has no plan b from what I have seen, their CMs are still lightweight and we can be lethal on the break.
Oops. Wrong.
