Pretty much, but in all honesty just about everyone, at every level, played a 2-3-5, because you, well, did. Tactics at First Division level weren't that much different from those at school level, and you'd have the W-W formation and the long ball because that's how the Arsenal team of the 30s played, to take advantage of changes in the offside rule and be as boring as fuck. It worked, so it was copied. Sadly, no-one other than Rowe's Spurs (except maybe Busby's United) tried anything different. English football got a massive boot up its complacent arse when Puskas and co ripped England apart, and then settled back into its old ways. The England-Hungary game is available on DVD, and that's probably the closest you'll get to seeing how the '51 Spurs side played.

My memory's hazy, but Nicholson played what's best described as a 3-3-4, or maybe a 3-2-1-4, with John White playing just behind the front line and then ghosting in to cause havoc, catching on to passes from Mackay or Blanchflower to feed the strikers. Alternatively, the ball wold go to Jones or Medwin.

That team was fucking brilliant. I just wish I'd been three or four years older so I could have appreciated it a bit better. And Nicholson mixed it up, too—now and again we would go Route One.

Sadly, this never rubbed off on school sides.

problem is that football is moving rapidly up in terms of money.

it's kinda really hard to say what 16m is really worth in today's world.

it could be a darren bent or a thierry henry, but the reason why they both went for around 16m is because nobody is really to sure of how much players are worth nowadays with the rich clubs getting richer and the poor clubs staying poor.

I'd want something like 25 to 30 purely for safety's sake, and even then, we would not really replace him with much better (bearing in mind players we might want would have to want to come to spurs)

Like Joaquin went to Valencia for €15mil and he wouldn't be better than Lennon?

Not that i believe there is any truth behind it, but would you take £16m for Lennon and look for a better replacement?I do believe Lennon is great prospect, but his lack of consitancy can get annoyin...i'm sure know we can do better..and £16m would be a great profit from the £1m we paid and great bit of business..what you think?

From tribalfootball.com

"Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is keen on Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon.
The People says Spurs boss Juande Ramos is ready to let the winger lead his summer exodus from White Hart Lane and Eriksson is ready to pay the £16m that would get the 21-year-old. "

He's 20 years old you arse!!!

Sorry mods but i'm still a bit pished and this is fucking nonsense.

there's no chance he's worth £16m!...then again if Bent is worth £16m.....
he's no Ronaldo or Giggs in his hey day. He certainly doesn't participate in a match for 90 mins. We already have one luxury player in Berbatov so we cant have two!......I'd snap their hand off and throw in Bent :)

To get the best out of Berbs, we need a Bentley type player, someone who can get accurate early balls into the box to pick out his movement. Lennon couldn't pass wind!

I would actually be happy with 16mill for lennon, I do think he could be replaced easier than some other highly rated players.

As for his game, as a couple mentioned, its becoming harder to make an impact, same thing happened to SWP when he moved to Chelsea.

Like Ronaldo, SWP comes in a bit more, and his delivery is more consistant, but Lennon need to adapt his game more. I have noticed Ramos switching the wingers sides every now and then in games, this I like a lot.

When Lennon starts adapting, I'd also expect him to score more, its no coincidence that Ronaldo is top scorer because of this, and it wouldn't surprise me if he starts becoming a centre forward soon.

Remember Theirry Henry, he was a winger, quite similiar to Ronaldo, quick and tricky, but adapted and started scoring for fun.

I can't believe what i'm fucking hearing here. The reason Lennon isn't the player he was is because he's not getting enough distribution his way. When we had Carrick he would pick him out with sweet long balls and Lennon would be fucking tearing it down that right ripping defences to shit. It's the centre of the park that is the problem. Lennon does need to improve his crossing that is true, but if i had his high speed dribbling skills i'd try and take it past them every time, fuck the crossing!

Lennon out then!

Jesus fucking christ he's just a kid.

If you have seen him play this year you will have seen he has been trying to do that but cant even seem to do that anymore!

He does seem to be lacking in confidence, so many times Ive seen him not even try to beat his man and play the easy ball inside or back. I like him and really hope he does develop. he isnt strong enough, and is one of the players Ramos was propably telling to bulk up. he gets into great postions cutting inside off the wing and i would luv him to ping one into the top corner. but his shots are nearly always fluffed and lacking real power! I wouldnt be seeling him just yet.

Lennon is quality and although he's not been in great form the last few games....so what???

Is this what it's like when someone has a few bad games..."SELL HIM and get an uber Spaniard over" seems to be the answer for some of you.

I remember when he was playing for England last year and every time he got the ball the crowd would roar with excitement because (1) Lennon is an exciting player and (2) He can open the game up with his electric pace and direct play!! He is still that player but just lacking a little confidence at the moment.

Give the kid a break...he'll come good again!

to be fair though! Ronaldo of ManU has recently being playing in different positions, purely because defenders started to work out his step overs and runs.

I think if we played lennon like that he would have a similar effect, and one like he had in the previous 2 seasons

He lacks another important thing..........a creative CM that can set him up for his running and find those angles.

These days Keano and Berbs has to move backwards to set some decent shit up.

I think Mr Lennon is proving you can. Or has he just been found out by defenders???

I'm not going to repeat myself as i've said my bit in this thread.

I don't think you've really taken in my views anyway.

Also, this thread stems from a so-called site called tribalfootball which we all know is a load shite anyhow so i really can't be bothered.

And this is the same old shit anyway. A player isn't at the top of his game and people start wanting him out. I think it's pretty fucking embarrassing and it's what gives us Yids our fickle reputation (which i'm also sick of saying but it's true). It was Berbs last time and now it's Lennon. Who's next?... Ledley King!

Come on for gods sake!
