We desperately lack leadership in the team, but especially at the back and in the midfield.

During the Redknapp era VDV, Modric and Bale got the plaudits. But the contributions made by Gallas & Parker were just as monumental.

It's down to Vertonghen if he can't let Toby know who's behind him.

Not even sure what he thought he was doing there.

If you want to talk about who is at fault once the ball is put in to the box, then fair enough, it's Verts fault all day long. But we should NOT have even had to have the defence called upon. Stoke have the ball just inside our half, 4 passes later it's in the back of the net.

We should have fucking dealt with the situation after pass one. Looking at the video footage we seem to have 11 men behind the ball when their bloke has it just in our half.

I have never seen a team have such little idea when not in possession, from the moment the ball is played on our half way line, not one of them get anywhere near either ball or man until Lloris picks it out of the net.

That's Sunday morning style football, imo Poch doesn't know how to put it right, as surely he would have gone some way to putting it right, it's nothing new it went on throughout most of last season too. Look at the amount of goals we conceded.

This s*** was happening long before Vertonghen got here. It's partly a personnel issue, but more than that none of our managers or backroom staff in the last few years have been able to make it hard for teams to create chances against us. It's just so easy.

In the last couple of years I can't even think of many examples where we've kept a clean sheet and Lloris hasn't been our MoTM.

Everyone say nail and lamela cost us the game. But Stoke's two goals were simply toby and jan's faults

Guys. It's simply this. We don't have the funds to buy the best players. The best players are also intelligent sports people. Very important.

Main point though is we don't have the funds to buy the best players.

Which he is. So you don't think Poch knows much about defending ?

Knowing and being able to effectively pass that knowledge on to others are two completely different skills.

A great player (which Poch wasn't) doesn't necessarily make a great coach. Just like some of the best coaches/managers in the game have zero professional experience of being a player.

So therefore play a system that suits the players you do have or implement a system that doesn't require great players to get it right.

That won't bring top players. Only money will bring top players to play any system to the level Spurs fans want ie top four.

Hmm and Poch played at a high level for some years as a defender. Must have been deceiving a lot of people clever man.

Playing and managing/coaching do not go hand in hand, the proof is there for ALL to see. How can you explain for amount of goals we have conceded, if the guy has any real defensive coaching credentials??

Literally hundreds of top international players have never gone on to make a top coach.

Actual he never played a great deal at "high level" as you put it, either

jan strolling again, just doesn't have the instincts of a natural defender.

I honestly don't understand the Verts love around here. Every game he's responsible for at least one or two easy opportunities, only some of which get punished. He's not even that good on the ball, regularly losing control with a sloppy touch. Watch how he prefers to lay it off to Alderweireld who actually can play a pass. Plus he's slow.

I think just cos he's a pretty white boy everyone thinks he'll eventually turn out amazing. If he was anyone else making those mistakes and acting that casually he'd get slaughtered for it. He has yet to convince me that he has the making of a good PL centre-back in which case he's holding us back. Wimmer or Fazio please.

Most people love Verts for his composure on the ball blah blah fucking blah, personally i like a defender........... well to be able to defend first, if he can pass it, then great.

And yet our best team in the Premier League was built cheaply.

Friedel, Walker, Dawson, Gallas, Ekotto, Lennon, Parker, Bale, VDV & Adebayor did not cost the earth. The only expensive player was Modric.
