What's new

Who, of our core players, could you stand to lose in the summer window?

Levy has a price for every player that WANTS to leave, he has little history of selling anyone that didn't either state publicly they wanted to or that kicked up shit behind the scenes to get their move. How many times does this have to be said, let's not suck in all the shit the media wants us to believe.

Meh
Only second ? sack the lot I say and that potchywatsit bloke he hasn't done much either.
Ohh and that kid that sits next to levy I'll give him free tickets cheeky little sod.
And don't get me started on the canteen staff pffft.

But apart from that I'm almost happy with it. :joyful:

Mason who has played 59 games in the last 18 months, despite missing 2 months with an ankle fracture?

And who is having to play all this spring with injections, because the club asked him to delay his operation till the summer?
This is disingenuous, the vast majority of those appearances came during last season, which for all intents and purposes stands as the only time in Mason's entire career that he has remained fit.

Poch likes Mason so he'll probably be kept around the squad but I don't think it's unreasonable to wish we had a more reliable (in terms of fitness) deputy for Dembele.

I don't think any big names will go. I wouldn't lose any of the first team players but based on fitting the work ethic I wouldn't be devastated to see Chadli go. Other than that I would be really disapointed to lose any of the current squad.

The first team needs to stay in tact. I certainly think we can stand to lose Fazio, Yedlin, Chadli, and 1 or 2 of Chadli, Mason and Bentaleb(2 if we bring someone in).

We need to bring in goal scorers. We need an AM who can contribute goals but also add something to the team play/dont detract from it(hopefully thats Pritchard so we dont have buy anyone) and we need a backup 2nd or 3rd striker who can score.

At that point, maybe you can think about spending alot of money to bring in a Reus or Goetze to add another dynamic to the first team and immediately boost our profile. But i dont think we need to bring in someone like that at the moment.

If we want to be more than a one season wonder and keep the best manager we've had in years we can't entertain selling anyone important.

I think Eriksen's the player in our first 11 who could most easily be upgraded upon

Depends on who you think is in the first XI. Alli & Eriksen are our best players in the behind Kane role. I think all the others could be replaced quite easily.

You might be right. But there is a lot of precedent to suggest that you won't be. We've got a lot to offer and I'm sure it would be difficult for us to sell and for a player to leave.

I'm not being deliberately negative or controversial; this is more of a question of, if we were forced to change key personnel, who would you lose and hope to make us better for it with a canny buy or two?

Last time we made Champions League, we didn't sell anyone of note (unless you were a big fan of Taraabt), we just signed Van Der Vaart, Gallas and Sandro, and extended Modric's contract by five years.

Every time we've sold a big player it's because they've wanted to leave for Champions League/career progression that we can't give them. Lots of people neg on champions league for not getting us players last time, but it certainly helps keep them from leaving. Maintain our position and I can't see anyone leaving, hence us looking to lock down contracts.

I don't think we can afford to lose anyone from first 11 as otherwise other heads will be turned, most worryingly Poch's.

On a side note, how long does 'recently' extend to? Saw a piece saying we have a lot of "recent" form for selling our best players and it included Carrick and Berbatov. Carrick was sold 10 years ago, Berbatov 8 years ago, and Utd sold Ronaldo to Madrid/Arsenal sold Van Persie to Utd more recently than both of them

Someone who delivers in the big games; maybe a bit more spark and pace.

I think Son might take the 3rd AM spot alongside Alli and Lamela next season, now he's had a settling-in year and will hopefully be over his foot problem.

Sooo who then?

Spurs are considerably weaker without Eriksen's composure, consistently our highest chance creator and sees more of the ball than anyone else in the team, if you're looking for an upgrade you're looking at players like Silva and Ozil.

So not sure how easy it would be to replace him...

I really like Eriksen and I agree with your point about his composure being very beneficial, but how do we know that a player with more spark might not meet the difference, and even better it? I'm not advocating we sell Eriksen anytime soon, but I've wondered from time to time what it'd be like having a player in his role with more zip and spark about him, and if that would solve some of our problems with struggling to pry open the best spaces at the top of the box. I think a player such as Bojan could have offered this and been extremely compatible with this team, as he knows how to press well high up the pitch and quickly transition to attack. I would have been very curious to see him in a Pochettino Spurs side.

So while I agree that Eriksen offers a lot to the squad, I can certainly see why people see potential room for improvement there in his role. He's a fantastic player, but I think his lack of spark has hurt us many more times, both offensively and defensively, than most would quickly acknowledge.

Eriksen is hideously underrated by our fans ala Modric. He's a player that is 2 passes ahead of everybody else in his thinking and because he hasn't grabbed headlines with last minute winners this year people think he's "easily upgraded". I'm sorry but shame on you, if you can't appreciate what he brings to the side then you clearly don't understand the fundamentals of the game.

Silva would be a good option from the bench I suppose ;)

RAWK have been sending scouts to this forum for a while now, they have their eye on a few posters, I'll let everyone make their own decisions who they may be, but although they came through the system, id happly let them go for the right price. Can't be too sentimental in this game

I don't agree mate.. I think he is key to us putting in good performances.. when it doesn't quiet happen for him or he has an off-day we don't look the same team at all.. we need to add to what Eriksen does & have a player of similar quality who will both help & improve our creation & game dictation to play alongside Eriksen or if Christian was injured not leave us lacking in that the department. I think there is 5/6players we must hold onto.. Lloris, Toby, Dier, Dembele, Erksen, Kane,.. we can't lose the spine of this team.. also think Lamela's workrate & movement would be missed though if Alli & Son kicked on maybe not as much as the others
