What's new

Who, of our core players, could you stand to lose in the summer window?

You'll have to bear with me here because apparently I don't understand the fundamentals of the game as per above.

Just because a player is easily upgraded on doesn't mean that they're not one of the better performers, just simply that there's a wealth of talent in that position that could be bought. You can spout stats about chances created all you like but it's all relative because we're probably the team that has dominated matches more than any other in the league this season and as a result I would expect our creative players to create lots of chances. The Watford and Swansea home games spring to mind here.

I'm not going to get into the whole Eriksen debate again because it's futile as some here have their head so far up his arse they're talking for him but to call him "criminally underrated" is absolutely hilarious. You only have to look at similar type players at our competitors to realise that he is indeed, easily upgradable.

I clicked "show ignored" for that. That'll teach me. Ohh borks you really are something.

Still waiting for someone to name this player who can come in and replace Eriksen with ease...

Anyone who says replacing Eriksen would be easy is being deliberately glib. He's a first class AM now and brilliant for us. Of all the core players, he'd be the one I'd replace.
I'd like to see a lot more direct running, pace in the AM and the guile and passing from Cm. I think Boufal could be the AM and Pjanic could be the CM.
If we HAD to lose Eriksen I'd look to change the distribution of talent in the midfield.
I hope we don't.

Well said. "Easy" is an immense stretch, but there are players out there who can provide something different which may be enough to replace him and provide yet further potential.

As I said earlier @Shadydan, were he to leave, my personal favorite choice would be Bojan. He seems to understand the high press and quick transition to attack very well, and I think Stoke got a tremendous bargain for him given what they paid. He's done well in a side of lumps, so I'd be intrigued to see how he'd perform in a pressing side with more technicality and slightly more mobility.

Bojan's been on the bench a lot in the last few months.

Indeed he has, but he's now scored two matches in a row, so I like to think he's gotten over whatever the problem was then. Regardless, he's a damn fine player IMO, and I believe he'd be superb in our system.

To be clear though, I'd prefer to persist with Eriksen; but I'm saying were Eriksen to leave, I think we would more than survive were we to replace him with Bojan.

Quite. He's an excellent player.
Rather have Eriksen, but...

To bring in another talented but raw kid, then sell him on after 7 appearances during his settling-in season? Ad infinitum

The question is 'who could you stand to lose out of our core players'.....(debatable actually if he's even a core player given we're challenging for the league without him playing a part in that).

But he (Clinton) has contributed nothing yet, so that's why I wouldn't miss him if he went. For that reason, I could stand to lose him, yes.

If the question is who do you want to sell, then he wouldn't be on my list.
