I would sell Bent tomorrow. Yesterday in fact. Never should have wasted that much money on such a limited player. I just don't like the way football needs to played to see the best of Bent and I think he has such a one dimensional game that it is pointles keeping him if we aren't going to play the way he needs.

[sarcasm]I agree, we should have kept the multi-dimensional Defoe.[/sarcasm]

Or ShiftAndShoot as myself and others affectionately call him.

Screw strikers. Can we please get someone to provide service first.

Exactly....lets get some world class midfielders before we look at more strikers. Mind you getting Villa would help ensure Berba stays.

Absolutely I would sell Bent for Villa....a complete no brainer!

However, only for a replacement like that. I wouldn't just cut my losses on Bent for no great reason. Maybe I am deluded but I still feel Bent could do well if given half a chance......you can't ignore what he did for Chorlton (altho he still wasn't worth the £16.5 million that Camolli agreed on!)

I'm starting to think Bent may not come good. I'm all for giving him a fair crack of the whip and all that but I'm not sure that he's going to suit Ramos' style of play.

As to whether Levy can stomache a very public loss on the player I think he's enough of a business man to do so and at the end of the day the £15.5M is a sunk cost. It's the old cliche but if his sale can help improve the squad overall by new signings then he'll do it. His first preference may be to loan him somewhere to salvage a bit of value.

As to Villa, not a chance IMO. Tabloid spec based on us having a Spanish manager. For Villa, premiership = Chelsea first choice.

Overall though it all depends if Berba stays...

Defoe is in serious danger of ending up with more Premiership goals than any of our strikers.

He is currently only 2 behind Berba & 3 behind Keane even though he's played massively less minutes. Here are the number of minutes it takes them to notch a Prem goal this season..

Defoe 105 (10 goals)
Keane 153 (13 goals)
Berba 189 (12 goals)

In the end I thought it was the right decision to sell Defoe but lets not think he is some sort of 2nd rate striker, because he isn't.

Guillem Balague who knows Spanish football better than most and David Villa personally has stated on a number of occisions that Villa would be interested in a move to Spurs. He even said in january that if Spurs made their move then that there was every chance that he would have signed.

I don't know whether David Villa would sign for us or not, but what I do know is that few people in England know the Spanish game like Balague does and if he thinks it's a realistic possibility then you never know.

I didn't say that he was. I just think he's more one-dimensional than Bent, considering Defoe can't head a ball or hold up play to save his life.

No slant on Defoe, just a curious thing to have a go at Bent about. Which is why I always quote B-C when he does it.

And because I'm a ****. You shouldn't forget that.

we wouldn't get Villa for between 15 and 20 million. He'd cost 25-30 million and I don't think he'd join to be fair.

At least Defoe was shiftandshoot. Bent is just Shift (Isaac Hayes wrote a song about him didn't he ?)
