Who is the new scapgoat?

With Benty abdicating the post, who should be the new scape goat?

apart from the silly flicks chimbonda was a top player...

And the habit of going AWOL at set pieces, the Atouba impersonations, and his casual attitude to getting back into defence once an attack broke down. But those came towards the end of his first season and last—initially, he was far superior to Hutton. A lot of our play went through him last season too.

I don't think Hutton's a poor player by any means, but he just hasn't lived up to the billing so far. And it's not just the last few games he's got himself turned and wrong-sided—if it were I wouldn't be nearly so fussed; it was happening last season too, though. BAE gets a lot of stick, some of it deserved, some of it not, but defensively he's no more of a liability than Hutton at the moment.

How many goals have Hutton's errors led to in the past few games? If that had been Salty we'd never hear the end of it.

(Coincidently i sit in the East lower) I must admit that i said to my dad at various points in the game that he hadnt done much lately and like youve said, his crossing wasnt on par to what we would normally expect by a long way. His crosses rarely had any height on them and i cant recall him clearing the first man on any occasion.

He did push forward well though and overlapped on numerous occasions with Modric and Lennon but his final ball always let him down.

yeah, one of the blokes sat next to me said the same thing but i told him hes only young he will be a class player in time, he didnt dissagree but he said only if he stops faffing about with his hair,:)

O'hara won't get booed, cos despite him being average, he tries hard and's English... our fans would much rather boo a greatly superior player (ala Ghaly) who's foreign!

I don't think the nationality comes into it. People get on Dawson's and JJ's back all the time.

We have a history of signing and taking to our hearts foreign players. Villa, Ardiles, Klinnsman, Ginola, Berbatov etc.

And we have a history of scapegoating, Pratt, Lacey, Fenwick, Samways, Stewart, Dozzell, Armstrong etc.

The implication is both wrong and a bit out of order too. I don't remember Ghaly going to the Emirates and playing superb on his debut or apart from a couple of games particularly shining at all. They're quite different types of player but right now I'd take O'Hara anyday of the week. If Ghaly gets stick (and I'd prefer it if he didn't) he's got no-one to blame except himself.

The new scapegoat should be the fans. If i've had a bad day, i'll boo any **** within yards of me when i get inside the Lane. If they chant out of tune, they'll get booed. If they boo, i'll boo them.

I'm sure i can get enough people to do this.

a few people were moaning about gareth bale yesterday whilst i was sat in the east lower, mind his crossing was poor yesterday

It wasn't great but then again crossing is what wingers are supposed to do.

I thought Bale looked like a 19 year old showing his inexperience at times yesterday and Hutton looked out on his feet well before the end but I wouldn't say anyone was bad yesterday.

I know this thread is here partly in jest but I wish it wasn't.
Many of the Spurs faithful have players they love to hate and it's never made any sense to me. I've seen and heard people at games continually slagging a player/players off, it's almost like they want them to fail so they can criticise them and feel smug in their own little world. It of course follows that same said players never get any credit or praise for things they do well.

If we all want the team to win then it makes no sense to slag 'em or boo 'em during games. Surely if the manager's picking the team and you think a players s**t then the manager should get the stick. Nothing infuriates me more than players getting stick and then the crowd singing 'Harry Redknapp's (for example) blue and white army'.....

JJ always has been and unfortunately always will be.

Top player in my eyes, lots of people dont share my opinion though.

It's got to be one of the blokes who come out at half time with a fork to repair parts of the pitch!

I thought the dots were leading to a continuation like:

... If you ignore the fact he virtually played upfront, couldn't mark a man and was always caught out of position. Top defender. (and his attitude stinks)

That bloke in the South Stand who tries to get everyone to sit down. Shocking individual performance. I mean he puts in the effort but he is one dimensional, with his bowing gestures. I mean mate mix it up. Threaten them that Hudd will jump on them if they don't sit down or Zokora will start practicing six yard tap ins in front of the goal.

hah, nice.

off topic: i liked how the team celebrated hudd's goal yesterday when they all jumped on him. it showed team spirit and that they enjoy being out there.

Defo, and the way they celebrated with him for Bent's third. A popular guy clearly.

The best humour often has an element of truthful observation in it.

The serious point is that if you want someone to fail, the best way is to put them under pressure and criticize every mistake. It what the military do when they try and break new recruits and its what us spurs fans often seem to do and then wonder why that player plays so well elsewhere...

I think BAE is shaping up nicely for the Goat role, despite his excellent cross for Bent to score.
