To be fair I sort of agree with him. He's not against loaning another player to a Premiership club, he's done it plenty of times. Wilshere a couple of seasons ago and Bendtner now spring to mind. What he is saying is that Adebayor shouldn't be restricted from playing against Man City and I'd agree. If you don't want the player in your squad then you should be happy enough for them to play against you. I'd happily let Jenas play against us...every week if he likes.

Yeah I agree with him to be honest. Man City could feasibly own all the decent strikers in Europe and lease them out with this caveat and world football would be a farce. Well, more than it already is

I don't agree with him about the player not being able to play against his parent club. Especially for younger players it might put unfair pressure on them. Do they go into tackles full force etc...

As I've said earlier the FFP has to work and should be brought into this country by the FA (rather than just be a CL/Europa thing). Might stop a lot of clubs (especially lower league teams) getting into financial trouble and stop people from gambling by trying to buy their way out of relegation, which if it doesn't work can leave them in a mess.

I don't agree with him either.

With Adebayor and City it is different as they're not on good terms, but say, for example Caulker playing against Spurs for Swansea. it's the last game of the season, next year we're in the CL if we win, Caulker is due to be in the squad next season. Caulker could, in effect, throw in a rubbish performance in order for us to grab a CL place next year and him to potentially play in it.

I'm not saying it would happen, but I think you can create a bit of a dilemma.

But that is up to the club who is loaning him to deal with. If they don't think he should play because he might put in a bad performance then they drop him for the game or if they play him and he purposely puts in a bad performance they should fine him and he'd probably get something from the FA for match fixing.

I guess it can be abused both ways.

Hypothetical. Spurs v swansea last game of the season, swans need a draw to stay up, spurs needs a win for the title. Swans winning 1.0 caulker makes a mistake and spurs score. Caulker gives away a penalty and spurs win. Caulker did his best but there will always be question marks.

Better off not being allowed to play.

The problem with it is, if you let a player play against the team he is contracted to on a full-time basis, then there's a conflict of interests.

If you take the example of a younger player with hopes of returning to his parent club, if the match is important, the manager of his parent club could have a word in his ear and say, if things are level with 5 minutes to go, take someone down for a penalty.

EDIT: just re-inventing the wheel here it appears

Its not the first time he's said it and I doubt that it was him that brought it up at the latest press conference.

The only thing Wenger said is loan players shoould be given the choice to play against their parent club. Hardly making excuses.

I disagree with him though not too bothered either way.

I think the only sensible way of doing the loan system is by saying that clubs can't loan to those in the same division. The system now is open to abuse. Using Caulker, the poor pawn in Kendall's hypothetical, what if somehow Swansea are in the running to pip us to 4th place on the last day of the season and they have a seeminly easy game against already relegated Chelsea. Caulker plays badly, Swansea lose, we get 4th place. Questions would always be asked.

Having said that, Wenger's timing with this comment does just look like sour grapes.

You just cant win. Some people say they should be allowed to play against their parent team, but then others say the player might not want to do too well against his parent team, whats to stop him only playing at 50%, scoring an own goal, whatever.

Then you have people like Wenger, who say it distorts the competition.

Then you have people who say they should just stop inter-Prem loans, but then how are the kids going to improve etc etc.

I think they should keep it as it is, its just like a player being suspended or injured, and their are other worse discrepancies like the summer transfer window ending two weeks after the season started (e.g. QPR lost to Wigan and Bolton before splashing the cash), the winter transfer window affecting what squads teams have at different points.

Basically he is a whining old git.

Does he even target the Adebayor loan specifically?

Tbh I reckon the article is just making Wenger look bad. Which is fine really.
