I fear VDV could be a AVB casualty, because I remembered his comments about Mourinho's "tactical heavy, strict training" approach, which AVB is of course of protege of, and implementer of:-

“There are no long and boring speeches about tactics, like I was used to at Real Madrid.
“There is a clipboard in our dressing room but Harry doesn’t write anything on it!
“It’s very relaxed. The gaffer gives us the line-up 20 minutes before we go out to do our warm-up.
“And the only words he speaks to me are ‘You play left or right, work hard, have fun and show the fans your best’.
“Then the defenders get an instruction about who to mark at corners and free-kicks — and that’s it.”
The Dutch Master, who has hit seven goals already this season, says training at Tottenham is equally low-key.
He added: “It’s not that we do nothing — but it’s close to that.
“For instance, last weekend Gareth Bale scored a header against Blackburn from my corner.
“But we didn’t train one minute on it, it was pure luck. Good kicking, good heading, nothing more.
“And our win at home over Champions League winners Inter Milan was a clear example of playing on intuition. You can’t train the goal I scored in that game.
“Of course the players need to have the qualities to end in the good position and the gaffer has to select the best squad.
“But in the end, it’s all about feeling and that’s what I have right now at Spurs.

“I try to give the best assist possible and guys like Bale try to score a goal out of it. That’s our tactic!”

Of course, nothing is written in the stars yet, but seeing as we're discussing it... it doesn't bode too well for VDV... I'm sure he's not going to enjoy "long boring speeches from someone 4 years older than him"... but I'd hate to see one of our best, and one of my favourite players leave. Whatever happens, we're going to have to support, and get behind our head coach - and let him build our future.

The more I think about the more ideal Pienaar is for AVB's three man interchanging midfield. He's also suit to the pressing game, having been used to high work-rate under Moyes.

Wasn't VDV talking about the previous Madrid manager Pellegrini in that comment because unless I am mistaken we bought VDV the summer Mourinho arrived and it was the board that sold VDV and not Mourinho.

I think it was...I also think Mourinho said he was looking forward to working with him and was disappointed the board sold him, and that VDV said he didn't want to leave (though, of course, he is glad that he did, now ;)). I could be wrong, but that's how I remember it.

If you are slow you will go. I think we can afford 1 slowish player to hold the midfield.

At the risk of starting another Gio debate, I reckon AVB may give the lad a chance, as he has the technical ability that AVB likes.

Or he could be the first player sold, which will show that I know nothing.

Dawson. Dawson. Dawson. Dawson.

He'll end up at Villa or Sunderland, and we'll make a pretty penny on him.

Jenas and Bentley have to go. Pienaar is surplus. I don't see a future for Gio or Dawson either.

1) Afaiac, it would be fair enough if AVB (or any new manager, for that matter) wanted to give all the players the once over, before deciding whether he wanted to keep or sell.

2) Okay, if you insist with the others, but why Pienaar? He would be perfect for any manager who likes to play the type of game that AVB does and knows how to rotate players. He wouldn't necessarily be first choice, but he would get plenty of game time.

As others have said, VDV is not a dead-cert. I think he stays and he has the talent in abundance. Just strikes me, maybe AVB might not see him as integral in his sytem.

Hopefully he does and VDV flourishes as the cutting edge of the midfield 3.

I predict that he will be the first one to mouth of to the media about AVB in some way so much as i love him, i can see him leaving in the next 12 months.
