Great for him to be nominated but as others have said, Messi will win it!

Obviously the judges didn't see my performance at my stag do a couple of weeks back. My sliding own goal was a thing of beauty and at one point I definitely passed it to someone on my team.

It's a fix I reckon.

A few odd chioces in the list. People have said that Bale hasn't done much and doesn't deserve to be on the list but I would argue he's had a better year then someone like Miroslav Klose who is on the list. Possibly he is part of the 16 unknown players.

I'm sure Messi will win it but Xavi would get my vote.

Klose is the German NT's topscorer and was only behind Huntelaar in terms of goals in qualifying. Both scored more goals than games played..

I hope C. Ronaldo wins it, everybody hates him but his goalscoring habits is astounding. Messi is in a team full of superstars, the top 3 being Barca last year and almost the entire 1st team being nominated again says it all really.

Whenever I've seen Ibrahimovich he has flattered to deceive .

Yeah the guy has a few tricks and he's a giant but surely Forlan is the better footballer by miles - and more of a pleasure to watch .
Yes I prefer Forlan as a player over the course of both of their careers. But in the past year Forlan has been absolute tripe. Yes there are reasons for that, but he has been bad. Ibra had a greta season last year.

Ok so if we add Klose's 9 goals in Euro qualifying to his one Bundesliga goal and 1 Champions league goal that is 11. Not a bad record considering he only started 10 for Bayern and 6 for Germany but hardly enough to be on a shortlist for the Ballon D'or.

As for Ronaldo there is no denying he had a phenomenal season but he is hardly on some Mickey Mouse team with nobodies.

And was first mediocre and then shite for Bayern in the Bundesliga, which tells you all you need to know about the value of international goals. Why, Crouchinho has 22 in 42 for England.

apart from Spain, Brazil and Holland its probably championship level at best. Basically there would be a few nations that would be able to survive in the EPL, La Liga etc but most of the other nations rank between championship standard and Dog and Duck standard.

How do you explain what was pretty much Barcelona minus Messi in the WC having to scrape through games winning by one goal (including the final and on ET) if most of the teams they faced were as rubbish as you make them sound?

And it's laughable that you don't even include Germany on that shortlist

If you look at messi stats with xavi and without xavi, you will be very surprised and this is the main reason why they wanted cesc so bad

Also i think spain struggling in the world cup had more to do with the fact that torres was on the start of his slump and also they missed not having senna in the team who in 2008 was brilliant,

Barca's team has 3 main goal threats and scorers with other players chipping in like iniesta and xavi, Spain had only villa because torres and pedro were poor

You are correct. But even with what, two players out of form? they create so many genuinely quality chances because of how well drilled they are in their style of play, that many of their players can chip in with goals even if they aren't particularly clinical finishers as they find themselves in great scoring positions, They weren't as good as we've seen with Barca or Spain post-wc, but you would still think they would be cruising their way to victory and spanking teams like Switzerland, Honduras, Chile, Portugal and Paraguay if these opponents were "championship level at best" as has been described before. That was my point basically

Senna was instrumental in that euro 2008 win, but I think it's fair to say they didn't miss him much when Busquets came in to play with Xabi Alonso, as he still does today.

I certainly don't agree with Cesc and Nani being in the list, and to have Suarez, but not Rafa, thats harsh aswell.

Nasri pissed all over Cesc last season, this is just the Barca connection now in my opinion. Nani was good, but not fantastic. Most of them are predictable, but those three are questionable.
