Smith's on loan and Vlad hasn't got a work-permit. I guess we could go down the seriously weak route, for some reason I doubt AVB would want to though, as it goes against the competitive ethos he's trying to instil in the side.
Wheres Smith on loan this time? I thought he might be used as Walkers understudy this year

And from all reports Tromso are going to be putting out there reserves, so our reserves/youngsters should be enough to beat them comfortably!

The one thing that isn't so bad in having to play four games in ten days...is that at least we aren't playing away tomorrow night.
That would of been disastrous. And it should be a straight forward enough game, so at least that helps.

Agree with AVB.

Only noticed the fixture congestion earlier today. Doesn't help that Villa play on lunchtime on Saturday and we play at 4pm on Sunday so they've got a 2 day rest on us and the added advantage of being the home side in our cup tie. On the brightside it gives us a bit more recovery time before the Sat lunchtime ko against the Chavs.

We should have the squad to cope of course but il not lose any sleep if we exit the Carling Cup at the first hurdle this season.

Arsenal are playing away at West Brom so I can understand why they didn't want the matches scheduled for the same night, with both sets of fans having to share public transport in the same direction. But it doesn't explain why we couldn't play on the Wednesday and them the Tuesday.

ETA: Oh, they're playing in the league on Sunday too. What an epic planning fail.

It would be much simpler (and fairer) to have Arsenal play Saturday this weekend and Tuesday in the LC, that way they'd have games Wednesday - Saturday - Tuesday - Saturday. That way we could play Thursday - Sunday - Wednesday - Saturday.

Not really surprising Arsenal get the rub of the green in this.

Bit melodramatic from AVB but he does have a point. Why the hell are we playing on a Tuesday when we've got a Sunday game?

Much as I hate to effectively forfeit a competition, I hope we play a much weakened side against Villa, hopefully with quite a few of the kids getting a run out.

Play a heavily weakened side in the League Cup if need be. It's the least important competition for us this year.

Give Adebayor a shot to show the fans he's willing to work to get back in the team I say.

Also makes you wonder why we shipped out Assou-Ekotto on loan.

This is not that big an issue with our squad tbh.

Vs tromsø and villa;

Friedel
Naughton - kaboul - chiriches - fryers
Dembele - holtby
Lamela - kane/ade - chadli
Defoe

Vs cardiff and chelsea

Lloris
Walker - Daws - verts - rose
Sandro - paulinho
Townsend - eriksen - gylfi
Soldado

Players can obviously change teams, but you get the picture. Such a big and strong squad should handle this, and we even have a few decent youth players who surely could fill in if we were to pick up injuries.

Tomorrow:

Friedel
Naughton - Kaboul - Dawson (Stewart @ 60) - Fryers
Sandro (Dembele @ 60) - Bentaleb
Lamela - Holtby - Siggy (Kane @ 60)
Defoe

Sunday:

Lloris
Walker - Dawson - Vertonghen - Rose
Paulinho - Dembele (Sandro/Holtby @ 60)
Townsend - Eriksen - Siggy
Soldado

Tuesday:

Lloris
Naughton - Kaboul - Chririches - Rose
Sandro - Veljkovic
Lamela - Holtby - Chadli/Lennon (if fit)
Defoe

Giving Stewart, Kane, Fryers, Bentaleb and Veljkovic some game time but having a strong enough team for every game.

I find this more perplexing when you consider we're normally one of the few clubs that takes the competition seriously - it's almost as if they want the competition to whither away and die.

trouble then being Swansea would be in our boat, but with an away game this Thursday, another away game Sunday, and if they played Brum on Tuesday another away game Tuesday.

we are going to have to hope if we can progress on Tuesday that we can do it with an understrength side. only real worry is at the moment not heard news on Vlads permit. as if its not cleared by next week Dawson and Jan will both have to play 3 games at least in 9 days

I feel it's important that we don't take any chances tomorrow as we need to win our homes and hopefully this season nick 1 away win so we can progress as winners.

Why do managers always come out with these comments just before they are about to play said game?

We have a big squad but 3 games in 6 days is incompetent, negligent scheduling.

It has been proven that 2 days rest time has a negative effect on results and increases player fatigue and the chance of injury, giving us 1 days rest, after a game in which we've only had 2 days rest as it is, well, it's just horrendously incompetent.

Yes we have a big squad, although it will necessitate almost wholesale change to the team between games and even we can't do that. We are either at risk of injury, or League Cup elimination because of some fuckwits who either know what they are doing but don't care, or don't know what they're doing when they should.

We are already at a risk of dropping points against Cardiff if we don't make a fair few changes from tomorrow's game, it's really pathetic and needs to be addressed - a mandatory 3 day rest period between games is needed.

This happened to me on FIFA13 at the start of the season where we'd have to play 3 games in the space of 6 days or something and there I was complaining that it wasn't realistic.

We should go with our strongest available team against Cardiff obviously then we should focus on the Villa game as a 2nd priority because we ought to be challenging on all fronts this season and then play a weakened team against Tromso with a strong subs bench, not ideal but we have the squad to cope for it now.
