Too many players did not perform.

Looking at Dier, Wanyama, Dele and Lloris.

Sissoko, too poor to mention.

Chelsea played us perfectly, dominated, scored, shut up shop, counter attacked and scored !

Trippier (and KWP who did not play) are nowhere near the game that Walker possesses . We have made a massive error letting him go.

Both are way to small to have an effect in the PL.

Sometimes Lloris needs to get the ball out way into the opposition half rather than a throw to an instantly shut down team mate.

Very disappointed with the team.

How long will they hang around if we continue this !

Excellent piece from Gullit on Conte's system, tactics and how they nullified our attack. Totally agree with the summing up, and it really does highlight the limitations that this side has when playing against the very best teams in the PL.

the only thing on the horizon for tottenham now is Burnley... a chance to put this right with what we got, same players, that's it

To the doomsayers: relax.

All the team needed was a bit more pace, slightly more clinical finishing and a bit of luck. In my opinion we completely dominated them. 68% possession against the Champions.

They were blessed their 2 shots on target went in. Lloris will be fuming, but is not a weak link.

We'll be fine. The team did not seem troubled to be at Wembley and were comfortable on the pitch.

Breathe. It's only game 2. 36 to go.

sorry but that's utter codswallop. We dominated them all over the pitch but didn't get the rub of the green.
Not sure what game you watched. We had more possession and more attempts at goal but Chelsea were solid defensively, parked the bus at times and caught us on the counter and could have scored 4 goals.

Think we played well but our wing backs didn't do enough to pull their defence out of position or overload them. Not enough there to comfortable beat a team as well organised as Chelsea without some good luck. Hopefully it will get better as the team plays together more otherwise we'll need more threatening wing backs to play in that style against the best defences in the league. Kane looked sharp which is great news though.

Whilst some tactical opinions offered on this site are debatable and may not always be suitable for given games and situations there are many great minds on this site who have made some very astute tactical observations, and one that springs to mind most recently is our managers defiant persistence with an option that is constantly repeated and paying very little dividends.

It is the deployment of assigning Christian Eriksen to the sole duty of taking corner kicks. More often than not he fails to beat the first man and at the near post and his deliveries rarely enter that dangerous area of the six yard box or just outside it that invites to apply pressure on opposition defenders goalkeepers and the goal.

We earned 14 corners to Chelsea's 3 and most of these opportunities to gain an advantage were simply thrown away. Surely he can't be the only one in our team who can take a corner, why don't Trippier and Davies ever take corners ? They are invited to deliver crosses which often happen near the corner flag. Eriksen's strengths from my observation are from slightly shorter distances from free kicks just outside our area or from further out when the ball is already in motion, or in cleverly dinking the ball into our attackers and beating the offside trap. If we have all observed this why haven't our coaching team ? It's a real shame this collective message can't be forwarded to Poch and the coaching team, we live in faint hope....but in reality they probably won't read posts on this site.

This will become even more diminishing in gains when you add in the fact that the Wembley pitch size is 69m wide compared with WHL's 67 m wide pitch.

Ironically whe one of his deliveries did pay dividends it did so by accident because again it found the first man in Batshuayi and went in for an unexpected OG.

If Poch is not going to change the actual corner taker entirely why not mix it up and let Eriksen, Trippier and Davies take them randomly ? It will surely put more uncertainty in the minds of the opposition ?????

I was trying to understand why fk's, corners and throw in's and outs were taken so rushed
and uncontrolled giving up possession cheaply time and time again ?

Oh well, we could always go back to the days when Chelsea would simply steamroll us.

Got to get this off my chest.
I'm sick to death of hearing how fantastic Contes tactics were, how he got it bang on and out did Poch.
Imo this is utter rubbish.
Because they won does not mean his tactics were right or better.
Football isnt as simple as that. The winners are not always either deserving or the better team. The same as boxing, one lucky punch after getting battered for 9 rounds and you're the winner. Doesnt mean you fought a good fight.
Chelsea scored 2 goals from 2 shots on target in the whole game which were created by 2 mistakes from us. They didn't carve us open. Yes they had other chances but didn't we?
Contes plan was to defend defend defend, hope for a draw, hope being the word, and if possible hit us on the counter. It came off. This time.
If anyone seriously thinks that is a clever tactic they're idiots. He had no choice. Far too many key players missing to go toe to toe against us.
This tactic on another day doesn't work.
Football is decided by small margins, much smaller than which tactics the coach chose.
They got fkin lucky thats the truth of it.
Its neither clever nor tactical genius to camp in your own half for 75min of a game, concede over 20 corners and HOPE they don't score.
If if if. If Alli, if Lloris, if we hadn't hit the post.
We made a few mistakes and were punished severely for them. It wasn't down to Conte it was down to us making the same mistakes we make every time we play those dicks.
We deserved to win that game. Unfortunately you dont always get what you deserve in football or life.
Fk thats deep lol.

And another word for "plan" is tactics, so therefore...

Anyway, I'm not too upset. Sure the result was disappointing, but the way he set is yet more proof that we are a force to be reckoned with. A team to be feared, not rolled over like in the not too distant past.

Hindsight being 20/20.. Those pundits could say what they want, even we are football genius here aren't we? If we had won, Poch is a genius.. Nobody is fucking right until we lost, always the case...
