So you'd like to give a player who's already lost all of his pace a few years on a contract. The very epitome of papering over the cracks.
I think you mean the guy who is currently a regular starter for one of the best teams in Europe.

I’d be happy enough to take Boateng given his experience, leadership qualities and what he could give to the younger members of the squad.

But if our transfer strategy is again going to be determined by free and loan signings, then we are going to remain pretty shit for the foreseeable.

Are we after Boateng because he is the best available CB for the job? Or are we targeting Boateng because he won’t cost a transfer fee?

Think we all know the answer to that one!!

I think everything depends on what CBd we can offload this summer. I dont see any of our current CBs as "first choice" as Jan and Toby where before.

I would say that we need at least 2 out (depends on foyth plans) and 2 new

Optimal for next season would be Sanchez out for 20-25m and Dier out 15-20m

Have Toby and Rodon as backup. Go for Boateng, I know short term but if he is anything like he has been this year for Bayern its a top 5 CB in the world.

Then either Andersen or a player I would love to see play next to Boateng, Nathan Ake but city wages are not levy wages...

If you replaced Thiago Silva’s name with Boateng last summer I’m sure none of us would want him either - and look at him now…

according to fbref, looks like he cant tackle, pressure, block, or clear the ball but is good at progressing the ball forward. which, I think helps when his team is as strong as bayern in the bundesliga. not sure he'd be a good fit at spurs with his lack of pace and defense.

maybe he's a solid ball progressing cb, that could work well to link the play, if we can get a strong defender to partner with him

Why if true are we getting a CB without a manager in place he might not want that particular player.

Sort of goes against the concept of having a DoF/Sporting Director. The "manager" (or coach) shouldn't really be building the team - you should have someone who can assemble a core of a team that plays in a particular way and compliment each other, then a coach who fits the way the team should play coaches them.

As noted, 'managers' are far more transient than squads.

Adopt a sort of Ajax system you mean but without having to sell off each season to stay afloat, yes I reckon everyone could get on board with that.

True, although I don't mind us having a 'farm' attitude, and selling young players who aren't quite good enough (Wimmer, Townsend etc.)

Where some might see, at Bayern, a solid ball progressing CB, I see a CB passing to a solid ball progressing midfield. Maybe we want one of them, too?

we should be delighted is Boateng choses us over the multiple offers he will have when he leaves Bayern

It sounds like it's falling at least partly within Hitchen's remit and if Ali G's info is to be believed, this will continue to be the case.

It's been known he was leaving on a free for most of the season and I don't hear "Multiple offers" being mentioned anywhere.
