Odd that he seems so adamant about not coming here. Maybe he doesn’t like the idea of being third choice. Ether way if that’s even remotely true then we should walk away swiftly. Shame as a HG CB wouldn’t go amiss.

I've a feeling this is on the back burner anyway and could only happen if players like Tanganga go. Obviously it doesnt matter this season because we arent in Europe but if he does go then for next season we will be chasing the HG numbers potentially and so bringing a HG player in now makes sense. But like you say, if he doesnt want to come then it seems a bit pointless. That might not necessarily be 100% too, he might just prefer Monaco. I suspect it is more nuanced than him just not fancying it.

I get why he’d be hesitant
He left city to get game time
If he came to us he knows he’d be backup to Romero, which would potentially lead to minutes in CC and FA cup at best.
factor in Romero becoming vice captain and it’s easy to see why tosin is wondering if it’s a good career move right now.
if we had Europe it would be another thing

From a neutral / England football supporting perspective, I always admire being prepared to go to another country's league to be a main guy to going down the road to be a bit part player

From what I can see, all the noise about him "only wanting Monaco" is coming from french media sources. I don't believe for one second that we would remain interested if the player or his agent had said this to us. We'd walk away immediately in that case.

I think at CB, we are moving into Harry Kane understudy territory in as much as nobody wants to come to be second fiddle. VDV deserves his spot and even if he hits a difficult spell, I think Ange will persist with him as he has a high ceiling and could be around for years. We definitely won't be looking at Silva / Topsoba any more IMO . Two top players for each position is really difficult to achieve without Europe especially. I can only really see it being Schuurs now and/or other players at that level and at that type of club. Can understand Tosin's approach to this completely.

Yeah, always wary with these reports because there’s a massive difference between ‘doesn’t want to go to Tottenham’ and ‘likes Tottenham but there’s perhaps a better opportunity to start elsewhere’. Think the reporting is often very certain when I doubt things truly are.

Also think the idea of turning your nose up at anyone that dares to look elsewhere is a little dream world. Ideally everyone is begging to join Tottenham, but realistically that isn’t the case. Plenty of our own players have flirted with other clubs before coming to Spurs. in fact Orban (who SC wants desperately) named pretty much every English club that isn’t us. People are ignoring that though, maybe that’s different because people rate him. Sure if he signs, he’ll be on board and everything will be just fine.

Except Tosin, who doesn’t really want to come here.
Can only really be that he doesn't believe he would be coming iin as a starter (or maybe he just fancies the 0% tax rate in Monaco). But if the former, then it's fair enough and I don't believe he has a chance of being a starter for us - outside of when we have injury or suspension.

As I said, that is what the french media have been pushing but I'm yet to see anyone outside of France saying this. I dont believe Spurs would ever waste their time on a player that believe doesn't want to come here.

He wants game time, and we aren't in Europe this season, so I suspect it will be a limited role. He could back himself to break into the first team, but will he get the opportunity? Personally, under Ange, I think he would.

The likelihood is Spurs will be in Europe next season, and he'll get plenty of minutes then if not before.

Ange will improve him as a player, and this system is made for him.

Then if he gets in this Spurs team he'll go straight into the England squad, and probably go to the next Euros or World Cup which England could win.

Just look at Dier.

Tosin, Guehi, and Colwill have a good chance to revamp England's CB options, arguably their one weak position.

Can't see all that happening for him at Monaco.

Simply ask him does he want to sun himself in a Tax haven, or go to a World Cup with England.

His career choices suggest the latter.

In fairness he’s going to be a backup/rotation for VDV and likely starter at Monaco. If that’s the reason for his preference than fair enough.

Always thought most footballers have enough ego to back themselves to become first choice.

Still think he would get plenty of minutes if he would come though. Partly because Romero tends to get himself injured or suspended once in a while, but also because Ange seems willing to rotate (eg Porro for Emerson and Sarr for Skippy against the Mancs).

Probably Not when a club has brought in a more expensive option before you just a few weeks earlier.
