I cannot get excited. I really thought this was it and the board would let him have time.

2 seasons and they ditch him.

Same old same old and we will never learn.

I get where you are coming from TM, I really do.

But losing 0-3 to West Ham, 6-0 to Man City, and 0-5 to Liverpool is Ardiles era stuff, just without the attacking.

There's not a manager in the Premier League that would have survived results like those - not even Wenger.

Things were only going to get worse. AVB's decision making had become laughable, and clearly the players didn't have a clue how to play according to his system.

Just feels like some of the blind optimists are throwing their toys out of the pram now that common sense has prevailed. AVB was out of his depth, yet some would seem to have been willing to carry on watching him drown.

I think the 'mutual' part of the departure is probably true. AVB painted himself into a corner with his stubborn attitude, and he knew it.

This is the first time this season I'm actually looking forward to our next game.

I wonder whether the decision was Levy's to make at all, and exactly how safe his position is. Something happened last summer when they all met up at JL's place. Even at the time it was suggested that JL was going to provide finance for new players without the sale of Bale. Then, with the sale of Bale, they evidently decided to spend even more. Somebody, somehow persuaded JL to spend; somebody trusted the judgement of somebody else to spend £100 million wisely, and persuaded JL to sanction that spend. The players might well be worth the money, but it's happened so many times at so many clubs that bringing in new managers results in firesales of players the new guys don't want. And so it goes on.

At what point dosed JL say to Levy "enough's enough", or is it still the case, regardless, that the bottom line is fine and that Levy is safe? I'm as perplexed by the whole thing as I've ever been by anything (except rubik's cube, I never got the hang of that)

I'm excited that I might actually get to see some exciting games again, rather being a little bored of our play. AVB's tactics made it pretty dull. I would rather see us win 1-0 than lose 4-3 but I would love to see us score some goals!!

Excited about? having one of our worst midfielders in history in charge of the club?

Wow that's UTTER rubbish, you can't of seen him play. I saw every home game he played for us and at the time he was a midfield work horse we were absolutely crying out for, for years. He gave 110% every game and never shirked a challenge. If he installs that mentality I will be more than happy.

methinks someone doth protest too much

Levy obviously rated the men that went before, otherwise they wouldn't have got the job. No?Stoof/Sherwood will get the bullet same as everyone else when things aren't looking rosey. Being flavour of the month/season/year won't help him if we're losing matches we should be winning.

I am not Tim Sherwood... :shifty:

At the point DL stops making JL millions and millions and millions of pounds,..... so, not bloody likely :greedy:

I was pretty close to deleting my account after the Liverpool game, seeing the same slow motion trainwreck week in week out and just seeing it continuing until we cemented long term mediocrity was just too much given we have for the first time ever one of the best sides in the prem. Now I'm all optimistic again. Fucking shame because I could have actually got on and done something with my life if I didn't have to come on here and set the world straight :D

Yeah but that's part of the whole puzzle for me - a successful team would make them even more money, and why did they sanction such spending if they didn't have confidence; but if they did have confidence then where's the soul searching at having made the appointment in the first place; - what sort of due diligence did they do, etc. I guess we'll never know.

A myth with our record points season last year and a higher PPG ratio of all our previous managers, yes i can see where you get the myth rubbish from.
He finished 5th irrespective of points gained. In my book 5th gets you f**k all other than a place in a cup no one other than AVB takes seriously.
Bale papered over his glaring inadequacies. No bale = being found out

I guess we'll see what we've got to deal with tomorrow night. I hope the reaction is positive from the players and Sherwood is as good as Levy (apparently/allegedly) believes. If they don't...

Glad someone is excited. I'm not. Years of hoping for the best. I thought we had something in recent years but we've lost our best players , replaced them with average, have no pattern or settled team and no manager and the strong probability that the new manager will fail.

Glass entirely empty here I'm afraid.

I'm mixed.

My overriding frustration is that we've been here before. Every time it happens I convince myself that we'll get the next decision right and that we'll have a long-term plan that will give us a team and football philosophy to be proud of. Whilst performances like Sunday's are indeed unforgivable and highlight serious tactical and managerial issues at the club, each sacking is confirmation of not just the fact that we've failed but that we'd rather leave ourselves in a horrendous limbo scenario without the foggiest idea of what is going to happen next. How can we really expect to challenge the top clubs in the long-term with this sort of strategy?

When we beat Arsenal last year to go 8 points clear of them and then stuffed Inter the following Thursday I really thought AVB was the real deal and that we had finally got our long term plan sorted. Unfortunately, whilst we picked up a lot of points towards the end of last season thanks to Bale, it has all been downhill since then and the last few months have revealed damning flaws in AVB's approach despite the odd good away win here and there. I've backed him from the beginning and I really wanted him to do the business, probably moreso than any manager before him, but I think Sunday was probably just too much. I was disappointed when I heard he was sacked but that was more due to the damning realisation that we're in for another year of transition rather than a belief that we were really going to improve before the end of the season.

On a more positive note, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night which has been a rare feeling before home matches this season. It has been flat both on and off the field for quite a while, and with it being West Ham after that shocker of a Sunday in October the fans should be well up for it. Add in the mystery of what Sherwood and co will bring and it sounds like the recipe for an interesting evening. I know I'm probably asking too much, but I just hope our fans start to pull together and make it enjoyable going to games again. As Bobbins said above, we might as well just enjoy what we can about the game rather than shout abuse at each other and the team when we lose. I'd be there home and away if we were in the Blue Square Premier with the Chuckle Brothers in charge so I might as well have a good time whilst I'm at it.

COYS.

Whatever you say it does not make him a myth in most people eyes.
