I'll really start to relax when GB has signed a new contract tbh. No idea why, I don't "expect" him to move this summer but it would calm me.

Just looking forward to seeing who we end up with now that most of our previous targets have boarded the choo-choo to other destinations. Despite the unfortunate non-deals of this week, everything still seems quite upbeat.

This Benteke thing still troubles me somewhat.

Firstly, I would be interested to know wether we were aware of his existence prior to his move and subsequent goal fest at AV. If we were, what stopped us buying him for the reported £7mil that Av payed? And also, why do we wait until player X becomes 'established' before we start waving £20mil about for the same player that cost £7mil twelve months previous??

It all points to us having a woeful scouting set-up, which is odd, because we identify and buy midfielders at an early stage (Lennon, Holtby, Bale, Sandro) but never strikers!!

Someone explain please.

Sorry if asked already but does it make sense that Bale's agent gets 20% of his wages? I seriously doubt it.

isn't it usual for the agent's % to come from the client's income? i don't know how it works.

Football agents are the modern day snake oil sales men. The amount of money they make for what they actually do is mind boggling.

For me the most worrying itk is from hertsyid - is he saying that bale is for sale at the right price?

Can anyone back this up?
No he is saying we wouldn't consider even a ridiculous price which waded them off. It also said he is staying based on the club honouring its promises to him.
In my honest opinion of course.q

If I was GB I'd be delaying any new contract until the club proved we could meet his ambitions. That's what worries me most about our lack of a striker so far.

Lets hope this week sees some positive news on both fronts.

Not everyone can buy every player! Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City obviously have very poor scouting networks as well as they buy players for a high price as well! Clubs at the top are less likely to take risks with unknown players - clubs like Villa dont have the same pressures imo

True but I was thinking they get a lot less than fixed 20% wages, more like signing on fees and or 5% at the most of wages. Even that is mind boggling, but 20% of wages would be criminal

If we're getting Chadli, then Atlanta Yid's ITK is even more interesting because there is even more of that money left over to spend than if we were going for Bernard.

from a club's perspective incentivising the agent (paying them) via wages rather than transfer fee makes a lot of sense. when the compelling event for an agent to get paid is a transfer, you know what they'll spend 99% of their time focused on making happen, if its wages then there is more likelihood of stability.

really? to me it's just more of the same, i.e. avb wanting a particular player and levy getting a cheaper option.

pretty sure JJ said it was AVB who needed convincing about Bernard, but he had received duff info first of all. I'll find it..

really? well jason burt who is supposed to be avb's mate said today in the telegraph that avb wanted bernard last summer!

Can't have it that we'd be in for Chadli and then Bernard.
Think Bernard is off limits now, too expensive. We couldn't make the Damaio deal stick for years so why are we gonna agree £20m+ for Bernard? We're just not.

I will repeat my gag from the Chadli thread: Chadli is 1/3 the price of Bernard and 2x the size, that spells value to Levy.

I'm sorry, but I find it highly ironic that just after the massive disappointment of missing out on supposed big targets, we've now got 50M to spend, and all is well again on the good ship Tottenham.
I'm not doubting anyone's integrity, or what they've been told in good faith.
But I simply can't believe it anymore, and I pray I'm wrong, because nothing would please me more than signing Soldado & Bernard, but I'm not buying it anymore, too many disappointments.
We're just deluding ourselves, falling into the same trap, time and time again.
Now, we certainly will purchase somebody, Chadli perhaps? Osvaldo perhaps? Both good players, and i'd be pretty happy with that, but talk of a war chest smacks of convenience to me, just my onion, that's all.
If we spend 50M this summer I'll happily donate 100 squid to this place..Would make a change from my usual contributions of worn out gags and pointless Giffs ;)
