And the next poster considering offering up the name of a past player might want to reconsider. On topic or go out to the beach, your local dildo shop or iron your nightie.

The off topic stuff stops here

Here's the line

£50m minus Paulinho = £33m

£33m minus Benteke full price = £8m or not enough

£33m minus £15m striker = £18m = another good player

Defoe + Parker + Huddlestone + Naughton (or similar) = a flair player!

Piss easy.

Regardless of how much we have available to spend it must be clear that we will not exceed what we have decided is fair value for any player. I think Benteke proves this. So there may be more disappoints to come.

It would seem so, but I'm not sure that our valuations of players are always realistic. Incoming or outgoing.

JJ,

What you said this morning about AVB needing to be convinced about Bernard. What do you make of what Jason Burt wrote in the Telegraph last night.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...a-reject-Liverpool-bid-for-Ryan-Bertrand.html

"Bernard has been admired by Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas for some time, indeed he urged the club to make a bid last summer, but they face stiff competition from a number of other leading clubs throughout Europe."
Maybe Burt wants to paint AVB in a positive light being his pal and all.

I think they accept that is the fee (whatever it actually is) but are not yet ready to formally bid.
I'm not sure I believe we as a club have told anyone what we want for Bale - I think our stance is ", not for sale" at this time anyway

IF Real or Man U came and offered stupid money we couldn't turn down I am sure he could be sold but I don't believe at all we have actively named a price

As much as I would have liked Benteke I was uneasy with some of the figures being quoted. It will be very interesting to see if he can repeat the form of last season in this coming season.

The waters seem conveniently muddied. Someone will get something correct, but this all seems like a classic Spurs transfer window to me.

Expect difficulties with shifting players and missing out in our targets. We mock Arsenal for making unrealistic approaches for top players so thy can say "we tried" to the fans, but we have been doing it for years.

I think an average striker who might become a hit will sign. Someone like an Osvaldo maybe.

A possible way to reconcile it, recognising that Burt and JJ are the two most connected people who communicate on the internet, might be to do with AVB's shift in philosophy.

Last summer he wanted Moutinho/Pjanic CM, Willian/Bernard LF and Leandro CF. This summer we've got Paulinho CM, are interested in Chadli LF and moved for Benteke CF. That's a bit shift from clever technical players to big powerful players

Perhaps AVB's becoming more like Mourinho in his thinking, and Baldini is trying to convince him to swing back a bit to finesse/creativity by going for Bernard again?

regarding the info on a £50m budget, is this a case of we had £50m-£17m(Paulinho) so £33m remaining or we spent £17m and now have £50m to strengthen on the rest of the squad? I hope the second but expect the first.

Burt story about AvB last summer is bollocks.
As is the list of players you state that AVB wanted !! He didn't want Pjanic !!

I think it depends who we shift out.

Sorry - that was my mistake. Burt said (25/6) that Bernard and Lamela were last summer's targets (whilst the media was encouraged to keep focusing on Willian). He didn't say anything about Pjanic at all - it was the Roma thing that confused me.

Those with attention deficiency disorder might want to revist post 63.

Whilst SC 'offically' sympathises with your illness A&C doesn't.

For me the most worrying itk is from hertsyid - is he saying that bale is for sale at the right price?

Can anyone back this up?
