The Baines talk is pointless. If we get an offer accepted, Utd will move for him. Between us and them he will join Utd.

Never going to happen.

i could see everton being so pissed at moyes/united that they sold to us potentially at a lower fee just to prevent him from going to united

from Nik on ftl, who has over 10 000 posts (although no previous itk afaik):
Finance related itk...
The majority of our spending this summer has been funded by the increased TV money and money banked over the years.
The difference between us and other clubs is most have needed the tv money to balance their books. Ours were already balanced.
Based on this there is still plenty of money from the Bale transfer if needed.
My contact said it was very very unlikely that Lewis had put any additional money in.

So we could spend another £70-80 million if we wanted?

Fuck offffffffffffff (in a good way)

However, I don't want us to stockpile a la Chelsea/City. Just 3 more incomings in the positions we all keep harping on about and we're dandy.

LevyTime
It's Levy time,
there's no need to be afraid.
At Levy time
we let in light and banish shade
And in our world of plenty
we can spread a smile of Joy
Throw your arms around the world
at Levy time.

But say a prayer,
Pray for the other ones.
At Levy time it's hard
but when you're having fun...
There's a world outside your window
and it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is
the bitter sting of tears
Where the Gooners bells that are ringing
are the clanging chimes of Doom
Well, tonight thank God it's them instead of you.

And there won't be snow in Manchester this Levy time
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life.
Ohh....
Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow
Do they know it's Levy time at all?

Here's to you...
Raise a glass for everyone
Here's to them
Underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Levy time at all?

Feed the Spurs...
Feed the Spurs..

Feed the Spurs
Let them know it's Levy time again.
Feed the Spurs
Let them know it's Levy time again.
(Repeat several times and fade)

A signing!

We have signed a skilful, fast attacking midfielder who can play on the right and has the potential to be the next Gareth (who) Bale!

@SpursOfficial: We are delighted to announce that Andros Townsend has signed a new contract with the Club until 2016. http://t.co/SgGBuq0a

Edit: Doh! Didn't see it was a retweet! Thought it was SpursOfficial today.
Mind you (attempts to save face) it is a good reminder that we have Townsend under contract for a few more years and he should not (on performances so far this season) be counted out for a starting place in our new stellar side!

This extra money being banded around. Greg Stobart mentioned this morning that we have £30mish to buy a top quality striker/left-wing option if a bid is accepted.

I do think that whilst Chadli is a perfectly serviceable player he's not going to be quite on the level of the rest of our new recruits therefore if we did spend out Bale money to upgrade both wings - as we would've done with Willian - we may well do it.

No idea who though - Griezmann is the only one that springs straight to mind.

Also Baines rumours can do one. He needs a system built around him (Pienaar/Fellaini) and he's only really rated so highly because he's good at set-pieces. Ian Harte with silly hair.

What it does mean is that money is potentially not an object...

Benteke and Coentrao for me. Perhaps Hallalovic... Give the rest to Levy for TDD Giftshop Spending Monies.

Baines will cost more than Coentrao. Wages would be equally massive, fee would never get recouped. Probably wouldn't come.

I know I've said this before but seeing as it's been mentioned by a few, Baines said ages ago that the homesick thing was a load of bollox.

I believe he would definitely move to Spurs if he wanted to move on. Don't get me wrong, if it was a choice between us and Utd, I think he'd pick them every time, but not because of the locality.

Excellent left back and anyone who puts Cole's place under threat in the national team is a good man in my books!

I remember reading an article about Baines a few months back. He's not your typical footballer off the field. Very happily married with 4 kids !!

Left wing options....

Dzagoev, Draxler, Fischer (but can't see Ajax selling again), Munian, Griezmann

The only two other big names that pop into my head are Sanchez from Barca and El Shaarawy from Milan. Sanchez is more of a RW I believe but some talked about a possible cryptic being linked to him back in June or July. Probably would be around that 30 mill mark. Can't see El Shaarawy leaving Milan but 30 mill pounds might do it - listed at 28 mill euros on transfermarkt

Hulk maybe too but isn't a LW.

All of the above is just opinion. Interesting next two days. Everything is gravy from here on though.
