This is true. Also if we brought in 4 players at £20m each, we'd have to find their wages somewhere.

Glad I don't have to make the decisions.

Wages most likely won't be an issue.

Given the amount of wages we have already cleared (Bentley/Gallas) and ones still to come, including Bale, we wouldn't wreck our wage structure with 4-5 new players coming in, even if they all made within 60-100k.

so jair, you spent all last night saying (and repeating) that andre no go. where's the confidence over bale dude? ;)
He ain't going either!
Levy said so... Oh wait.

Still think this story is either nonsense or at best/worst one of the French clubs.

I think Bale's hugely raised profile has completely changed the economics and I expect Levy's viewpoint

I tend to think he now sees keeping Bale as a financial necessity to help the ground development raising financing, bringing in sponsorship deals and naming rights, not to mention increased commercial benefits apart from the stadium. Bale has become a major name now, I see it here in Spain and I hear it's the same in Italy and imagine that's much the same around the "soccer" playing nations of the world. He doesn't even have to be the third best player in the world to be the third biggest name in football but that's what he is and there is huge money to be made on the back of that. Real found that Beckham's name made them fortunes, good player but hardly the best player in the world at the time, but undoubtedly the biggest commercial name

So even a world record bid will pale against the benefits of keeping him and what are the downsides? not many, at his age if anything he'll get better and either way is unlikely to go down in value. Of course he could get injured and it might affect his game but on the back of massive bids the club can increase coverage for that.

Levy has his faults and will always get swayed by a big profit on a player but he's no fool and he will be aware of the financial indirect cost of losing Bale and that could far more than offset the financial direct gain of selling him. Another time without the stadium development in mind and generating the funding and the sponsor deals maybe he'd still look at the filthy lucre right now I can't see him going for it

Will there ever be a season when people don't want to come in and nick our best players/manager? FFP can't come quick enough.

If we were to accept a massive bid for Bale, I would fully expect Levy to get our incomings completed before it was announced. Otherwise prices for our targets would go sky high and I imagine our dealings would go to the wire again, I also hope that if there is an offer for him it's not from PSG as it fuels the AVB rumours...

I'd much rather have really good players and a saga every summer than the shit we had in the late 90s. Squads we couldn't give away:

Even if we got 85m for bale, we have to replace him. That would cost, what, 25m to find someone who still wouldn't be able to fill his shoes.

So we'd have lost bale, replaced him with someone doubtlessly inferior, and then have an actual net of around 60m to actually improve the squad. And that is assuming Levy would put all the money back into the transfer kitty, which is almost certainly not going to happen.

From Nick-Topspursman on COYS

On Friday my best mate's Dad was doing the locks on Brad's home. He had a good chat with him and Brad told him Bale will be staying at the club. Apparently he has just moved/or is moving to Repton Park in Chigwell and the club won't accept any bids for him this summer. Bale is happy to stay too apparently.

Just passing on the info

:)

If there was a world record bid lodged and it managed to drop through the grapevine to a random poster then why has the World Media not gone nuts over this? I have no doubts it was passed on in good faith, but there's little chance a world record bid could get through to a random FTL poster and not have been spread around to the press.

I'm currently having a BBQ and on my phone so can't reply in full. But you need to get out into the real world if that's what you really think! Money always talks!!!!

You can argue about my life all you want, but it doesn't really make your point any more valid. ANY club CANNOT turn down an offer if it has met the release clause, e.g. if we offer €17M being the release clause, we would get access to the player. Whether he would want to come or not is a completely other thing, but offering more than €17M would be throwing money out the window.

I'd sell him for £80 mill +. However good he is, he's not Ronaldo. And there's every chance that if he stays with us next year he won't reproduce his exploits from the previous season on quite the same scale. In which case his value would drop to something more realistic, say £40mill or so.

And if he goes on to emulate Ronaldo and scores 30 - 40 goals his worth then would be £120m+ this boy is only going to get better selling him now is the short sighted view and will not move THFC forwards at all. What do you think that the whole £80m will go back into the team?? dont be so naive. We have a gift right now a truly remarkable player and half you lot want to swap him for a bag of cash? Beggars belief!!!!! :banghead:

We have received a world record
bid for Bale...upto the club according to his agent
someone i know spoke to his agent this morning and this is what he was told...didnt say exact figure but said it was a world record bid.
i know 2/5ths of f**k all and never had "itk" but know the person very well who spoke to him and that is what he was told by Barnett.....no name of buying club of price but record bid now with club

Why are people panicking about this? This is third hand info. If you are going melt down at least pick something worthy of panicking over.
