Sorry for creating a new thread on this but it was kind of worrying. Hope the team spirit was not affected by this little incident and they both shook hands and made peace after the match.

Lamela didnt have his better games but he was confident enough to take the ball. I think Son, as much as he deserved to take the kick as he was on fire, should not have tried to grab the ball from Lamela and created that scene.

I'd like to see some comments from both players regarding that incident and noting that this was normal and both had kissed and made up.

Think about Poch and the way he works. Regardless of Son being on fire, if Poch listed Lamela as penalty taker, they should both know that Poch would go mental if its changed on the pitch. However, I don't think we will find out who the penalty taker was meant to be.

Poch explained it in his presser. Who ever feels brave enough to take it should take it. Its all about bravery. He prefers to have players arguing for the ball then no one stepping up.

So no issue. End of.

Maybe im reading too much into body language but if you look at the social vids and personal instagrams, lamela looks more like the one who doesnt really socialise amongs the team members while son is the party leader and joker. So lets hope the other guys dont start taking sides.

Best way is for both of them to patch up and laugh the matter off.

The issues is not so much about who takes penalties, but the ill-feeling created, if there is any. Then again, maybe im reading too much into this and theres absolutely no ill-feeling. Shrugs.

Mate the best sides are aggressive and want to win at all costs. I think these lads will have a quiet chat and sort it out. its good to see that there is passion and a little selfishness out there.

I don't think that having arguments before a penalty is taken is a good idea because it fucks with one's mental state. I didn't see the argument over who would take it but when Lamela stepped up to take it I could tell that something wasn't right and strongly felt like he was going to miss it. Whoever took it would have been under greater pressure to make it. If Son had taken it off Lamela then he too would have been more nervous about it. My thought is just have an established hierarchy based on who is statistically the best at taking penalties.

Don't know if Poch was being honest saying there was no designated penalty taker, or just trying to diffuse any fallout. You'd think that, seeing how carefully everything is prepared, there would be one. And if not, I'd imagine there was some sort of unwritten rule that the leading scorer gets first dibs.

That said, someone might be a clinical finisher, but rubbish at penalties. Like Defoe was for example. Oh wait, he wasn't a clinical finisher either. But you get the idea.

this whole thing... mountain out of a molehill

Have to agree. I like the fact we have two players super confident to take a pen in such an important game in the absence of our regular penalty taker. Had it of mattered more in regards the score line, then perhaps I'd feel differently. As it is I think Poch will sort it out very quickly, and we won't see anything like this again anytime soon.

There should always be a designated penalty and I quite amazed that we didn't have one yesterday.

If youre joking about defoe, then haha ok thats funny.

But if youre not, then huge disrespect youre showing him. One of spurs best goalscorers.
